Premier League 23/24 Thread

It'll take a while for Ange (Dafuq am I learning how to spell that surname) to get his ideas across to the Spurs team, and also to get in players he wants. I would give him 18months before judging him. With the caveat that if they lose 10 on the bounce or finish second then we can make the obvious judgement.

Season starts in August, means nothing until then. I'm annoyed at the cricket being rained off though. 😂

Aye, as a neutral I can understand that. Fair few things have gone for the Aussies in this series. They were just a tad more street smart in the first two tests, and they employed the novel tactic of catching the ball, that's the difference. Had there been no rain over the weekend they were getting a massive hiding in that test.
Such is the way of sport though.

Mbappe to Saudi then!?
I suspect there is zero chance. I hope he doesn't cos I don't want to see PSG getting 200 odd million and making a 160m profit* on him. That'll bail them out for FFP purposes and they are one club who does NOT deserve a bye ball on FFP. Chelsea are another, but Saudi seem intent on saving them.

*They signed him for about 160m and have had him for 3 or 4 yrs, so as far as their accounts, and FFP, are concerned they value him at 40m. As in his value depreciates by 40m for each yr of his contract (160/4yr contract =40m, and he has 1 yr left so he is 'worth' 40m on their balance sheet) Selling him for 200m means they make an accounting and FFP "profit" of 160m. Even at PSG that will make a huge dint in their over spending.

Pre season hot take #2
After crushing Barcelona 5-3 Arsenal are a certainty to win the UCL 🤡

Speaking of friendlies, Spurs lost to West Ham in Postecoglou's first game in charge. As you say can't read too much into a friendly, but I saw some genius critic write "Spurs will win more games than they lose if they play like that next season." Err yeah we were doing that anyway, you need to win A LOT more games than you lose to be any good!
Hate to tell you this, but it was a West Ham XI. Mostly kids. Spurs seemed pretty much full strength. They did play well, but West Ham were very clinical. Fabs pulled off several good saves as well.

Yeah I didn't watch it, I don't even know what full strength means for Spurs save for about 3 players, I would say at least 5 or 6 positions are up for debate!

Also is it too early to call Declan Rice winning his first trophy for Arsenal on his debut in the community shield in a couple of weeks, a game they shouldn't even be playing in?! It's just so predictable...

Cheer up Edd, your lot have just lifted the prestigious Tiger Cup

Hojland a great signing for Man Utd, finally signed a striker!
Is he any good though? I know FA about him.
His record at Atalanta last yr was pretty underwhelming, but apparently a lot of big clubs were looking at him.
No arguments Utd needed a striker mind

We will find out I guess, I'm just glad we're not signing a 35 year old proven striker on transfer deadline day, Gil with stupid wages.

@weasel - I'll leave this super computer effort here for when you do the predictions thread (chop chop, it's next week and all that 😉)

Looks about right apart from Chelsea, I'm obviously a fan of Poch but Tuchel was struggling with those bunch of dead beats so it's not like Lampard and Potter were entirely to blame for Chelsea's demise

Everton in 12th scoring 57 goals? Aye right. They haven't signed a single player and stayed up by the skin of their teeth the last two yrs, but obviously this season will be different.

Sheff Utd just sold their best/only striker and have spent about £4 in the last three or four windows, zero chance they stay up.

Pool 7th? Hhmmm. They are an unknown, given the midfield overhaul, but I would be amazed if they finished that low. As a Pool fan, I could see them finishing anywhere from 2nd to 6th. 7th seems too low given the quality they have though. This super computer has Pool scoring 11 goals more than Everton over the course of a season? Look at their respective forward lines and tell me there is only 11 goals difference between them.

Villa 3rd? They were solid last year and have done some very good business, but third? I cant see it.

City win it? With their **** squad and complete lack of a decent goal scorer, no way. Bottom five for them!

Rumours are the PL are to bring in a similar attitude to stoppage time as that used in the last WC. So Everton and especially Newcastle with their Atletico Madrid-esque levels of time wasting, will both be ****ed come January as they play 400minute games every week

@lejackal, funny, I remembered about the predictions thread in the middle of the night last night. I'll get it updated now.
