Premier League 23/24 Thread

Think it's a mistake letting DDG go he def has 2 seasons left for UTD, outstanding world class goal keeper, we needed to keep him and spend on other Areas, but the new boss has other ideas, let's see what happens

Yeah Kane is bloody expensive, but he would probably bang in 40 goals a season in the German pub league. I wouldn't pay more than £70 million for him. I actually think that Osimhen is worth a punt, don't Napoli want £150 million for him? 'Onana' 😂 (my vowel choices are appalling) is a character to say the least, he has worked with Ten Hag before though, so hopefully signing of the summer, 😆 I can dream. I don't think a keeper was a priority @Michael Sith not above a centre back, a holding midfielder or a striker but we have missed out on Kim Min-Jae and Rice so the goalkeeper has moved up the priority list. Ten Hag won't sign third or fourth choice players for the sake of it, he would rather wait and improve on other positions with his first or second choice.

Apparently Maguire is disappointed to have been dropped as Captain of United. You would think not being in the preferred starting 11 for the last 6 months might have given him a hint.

Yes he's unbelievable, happy with not playing for two seasons before the Euros next year. Not sure who's worse Harry or Southgate. He played more minutes for England than Man Utd last season.

Ten Hag is telling him to get lost by not playing him and taking the captain's armband off him. But apparently he still wants to stay? Absolutely terrible business from Man Utd.

I think Utd are mad keen to get rid of him but no one is dumb enough.
I would say any offer over 20m will be seriously considered. The problem is his wages and the fact he genuinely seems to think he is CL class.

Rumours of WH being interested. On loan to start. That's about his level (sorry @Cazza)and WH play a style of football that will suit him. He isn't expected to do any fancy ****. Their defenders defend. It works for them. Fair ****s. I'm not sure his ego will allow him to drop from one of the biggest clubs in the country to a club he probably considers beneath him.

If he stays at Utd, that tells you all you need to know about his personality and motivation. He's 5th choice CB, and that includes a LB playing CB ahead of him.

Kane to Bayern @edd_jedi?

Looks like the Saudi's want to sign every single Liverpool midfielder. I'm gonna go get a pair of footy boots and offer my services for next yr.

Understandable on Bayern over a PL side. Not sure I could see him at Chelsea. That would be too sensible a signing for them

Can't wait to hear your thoughts on this?
@weasel @theforceuk ?

Not that I think he's a bad player but seriously, Man U with a short term deal for a what, 36 year old?

Harry Maguire (and Rob Holding, before anyone thinks I'm just UTD bashing) are pretty much PL level defenders at the wrong clubs. If you're a Bolton (or current newly promoted, lump it forward and defend for your lives) team, then HM or RH are probably exactly what you need. Solid, if unspectacular, in the box and able to go up and head 1 in four that's hit toward you.

We've rejected 2.5 mil for RH (rumours) and might get (or hope to get) 5-10. UTD paid 60/70 for HM and still think he's worth 10/20. That's why (new hair aside) no one laughs at Rob but think Harry is hilarious

After the last 4 years I would not describe HM as a solid defender. 😂 Agreed though he's a decent defender if you play a back 6 and a deep line against Moldova at home.

@lejackal My understanding is the the Johnny Evans deal is short term, very short term. He is out of contract so he gets a few weeks pre season with Utd to get fit (and try and impress ETH to get a deal) and Utd get a solid CB to cover for the injuries they apparently have. Assuming he isn't on mega bucks it's pretty much a win win.

As for Fat Maguire, he is looking more and more like he wants to sit out his contract and collect his 200kpw wages. Rumours of Chelsea being dumb enough. They are about the only club who he would deem worthy, assuming we accept Pool, City, Arsenal aren't gonna come in for him. I agree about him being suited to a solid but unpretentious side, that's why I said WH would suit him, but I suspect his ego won't let him join a non big 6 side. Even Newcastle probably aren't big enough for him. Plus they aren't dumb enough, but you take my point.

This is what we need for the new season, ref cam - as well as great new angles of goals we could also have a count of how many times a match the ref gets called a twat (or worse)

To summarise post match (Arse vs Utd) we are currently blowing the league, crashing out of Europe and in need of a rebuild. That about covers it I think.

Oh, and #artetaout

😉

Being slightly more serious it looked like Utd had been instructed to go in hard for every challenge. Bad enough in a competitive match, f-ing ridiculous in pre season.

Tiz pre season, it means FA.

Though I hear Ramsdale dropped a few bollocks. If Arteta is intent on spending the GDP of a medium sized country this summer, he could do a lot worse than buying a decent keeper.

Oh I know, you should see the meltdown from some fans though

Speaking of friendlies, Spurs lost to West Ham in Postecoglou's first game in charge. As you say can't read too much into a friendly, but I saw some genius critic write "Spurs will win more games than they lose if they play like that next season." Err yeah we were doing that anyway, you need to win A LOT more games than you lose to be any good!
