Premier League 22/23 Thread

Yes exactly, arguably have two teams that could win the league. I reckon they have 3 or 4 transfer windows in hand on anyone else and that's without them buying anyone else.

I couldn't find this stat the other day (and it's now a couple of weeks out of date, but just before Arsenal played City away:

Arsenal had 8 outfield players that had started 25 or more PL games. City had 3

Arsenal had 10 outfield players that had started 10 or more PL games. City had 14

Over half their squad starts less than a third of games.

Basically a long winded version of what Edd said.

Aye, that'll do it (stop you getting injuries). Hard to be injured sitting on a bench.
Even so they still don't seem to get injuries in training or on international duty. Maybe it's just my imagination. I need to go and dig up some stats on the number of games missed through injuries and their duration when I get time.

Coventry and Luton in the Championship play off final, will be good to see one of them back in the PL - possibly the first time for Luton? I remember they were in the old Division 1 when I were a lad.

Oh and Toney banned until January 2024, glad I ditched him from my fantasy team a few weeks back!

Yes I remember Luton in Division 1, think they got relegated 1991? To think they got promoted to league 2 only 9 years ago.

Yeah, nice to see they've both made the final. I remember Luton were pretty decent for a while, the Stein brothers, Ricky Hill, Mick Harford, Steve Foster etc, not to mention the plastic pitch. Bit of a bogey team for that unstoppable Livepool side of the mid-late eighties as well. Also seem to remember Millwall going there and their fans tearing the stadium to pieces!

Not that I'm making excuses but I think Man City bulldozing Real last night spells out what the rest of the PL (and Europe) is up against.

Quite glad I watched the play off semi final instead.

City are a machine. Having a blank cheque book and one of the best managers in the world helps. The former being a massive advantage over other clubs who only have equally good managers.

My hated of Real Madrid is well know, and it was nice to see them get a thumping. Especially given the luck they have had in that competition over the last few years. Saying that, City could well dominate now until Pep gets bored and pisses off. Or the FA/PL grow a set and punish them properly, and we all know how likely that is. Real dismantled, Barca and Bayern a shambles, PSG still picking attackers and not worrying about players who will run or tackle, and the other PL sides all looking a lot less than City. Who stops them? Another Pep brain fart is the biggest concern. They will put 4 past Inter, and do it in second gear.

Nice to see Luton and Coventry fighting it out to come up. I'd much rather see a new side come up than the usual yoyo shite. And those two clubs have had their fair share of problems.

Big old game in the race for the CL spots tonight. Newcastle win and that's it pretty much done and dusted. They have Leicester and Chelsea to play. The former are gone and have given up, they are a walking 3 pts. Chelsea away in the last day could be tricky, or it could be a walk over it's Chelsea, but if Newcastle lose to Brighton going to Stamford Bridge with the pressure on (assuming Pool win both their games, a big assumption) anything could happen.
Utd with Bournemouth then Chelsea and Fulham at OT will cruise the 6pts they need to mathematically guarantee CL (I'm expecting them to get 9pts) but Newcastle's season could well be decided tonight.

Cue Brighton reverting to the team that played Everton.

Brighton could still get 4th themselves, mathematically maybe even as high as 3rd - that would be some finish

Not any more. Man Utd are lucky that Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs have all had duff seasons. Would have been fighting for a Europa league spot otherwise.

Yep, as are Newcastle, Brighton and arguably Arsenal. Still, you can only beat what's in front of you, it doesn't matter how good they were previously.

Wow, watching the League One play offs. Wednesday were 4-0 down to Peterborough in the first leg, and they've just scored a 98th minute 4th goal to take it to extra time. The Peterborough goalkeeper has been doing Newcastle level time wasting since the second half started, good on the ref for playing beyond injury time to compensate for it.

Couldn't have don't that last weekend could they 😂
😆 I know how you feel, I swear every other team has their best game of the season against Spurs, Newcastle will never score 5 goals in 20 minutes again, even against a non-league team in the FA Cup
