FFS Spurs!
Again.

That wasn't a "gimme" draw, but as far as CL knock out draws go that was about as easy as you could hope to get. Liverpool and Chelsea would have gladly swapped. I only saw the last 5 minutes of the game but it sounds like Spurs tried the novel tactic of boring AC into giving up. The slight disadvantage to being a goal down is you ehhh need to score to go through.
That looks like it has confirmed what pretty much everyone knew, Conte is away this summer. Not sure many Spurs fans will mourn his leaving. Unless Levy repeats his efforts in appoint someone of the calibre of Nuno Espirito Santo.

Still, that is a great chance at CL progression wasted. Spurs would never have won it, I know stranger things have happened etc etc, but realistically there are 4 or 5 sides who are much better than Spurs in that competition. AC aren't one of them. Not even close.

Yep, bloody hell. I might have to stop watching them, just not worth the constant disappointment (or should I say non-disappointment, as it's entirely predictable.) I didn't actually realise AC Milan were the current Serie A champions, I know they've been **** in recent seasons, but they can't be that bad if they won it. Still, the usual Spurs approach of feet up for 75 minutes and then panic for the last 15 rarely works.

And WTF is Romero playing at, he seems to be unable to tackle anyone without also doing a fly-kick on them, 2 practically identical yellow card fouls in one game. Although I think we actually played better after he was sent off.

In terms of next manager yes I'd be relieved if Conte went, I wouldn't mind having Poch back but the team spirit he built 5 years ago has gone now, he'd have to start from scratch. Maybe we should try the Arsenal approach and put Ryan Mason in charge!?

Pool have played both AC and Napoli a fee times in the last 3 or 4 years. Napoli are a good side. AC are very beatable (at CL level).

Napoli are decent but I would fancy Liverpool every day. Obviously unlikely Liverpool overturn the 5-2. If it was at Anfield I'd be worried!

Napoli dismantled Pool earlier this season. It was a proper men against boys effort. That was one of Pool's worst games, but Napoli are a solid outfit…..who will probably see their best players picked off this summer.

That Liverpool team would give Napoli a game now, don't think most Liverpool fans care what happens this season, they've saved the season by smacking Man Utd up 7-0. 😉

Lol. It's a strange one, on the one hand that win means more than a Worthless Cup win (and I suspect Utd fans would swap their worthless cup for having won 7-0) and will be remembered for years or decades to come. The worthless cup win ehhh won't.
On the other hand, if Pool finish outside the top four, this season can't be called anything other than a failure. I'm assuming they won't win the CL this year lol.
When the season started, everyone expected a Pool and City fight for the title. To finish 5th, or lower, in a two team race is failure.

As a fan of Man Utd I couldn't give a toss if we lost 1-0 or 7-0, no way I would swap beating Liverpool for the league cup, cup finals are what it's about for me. Liverpool beat us 0-5 at Old Trafford last season, that's more embarrassing for me, like City winning 1-6 10 or so years ago. I remember beating Arsenal 8-2 at Old Trafford but neither team won anything that season so who cares. I remember beating Arsenal in the semi final of the FA Cup 1-0 the invincible season and that was better for me, just like Liverpool beating us 2-0 in the 2003 league cup final. 7UP, Liverpool should be drinking Coke Zero that's how money trophies they will win this season and they need to wake up and smell the coffee if they think Liverpool are on an upward trajectory.

Really? You'd take a league cup win over beating your bitterest rivals 7-0?
I couldn't really care about the league cup, or the FAC, nice to win and you obviously never want to lose a final and are a bit disappointed if/when your side crash out. But they are both minor trinkets in the football world. Sadly it all comes down to money and PL/CL and or top four are worth a lot more to the club's and help their long term prospects a lot more than a league cup or FAC do.

Plus a nice 7-0 hammering of your rivals is great for banter purposes. Not sure I would be bothered if Utd fans sang about how good they were for winning the League cup (or the FAC or even the EL).

Certainly better to have won more league cups and FA Cups combined than Liverpool than being able to brag about a 7-0 hammering. I love the banter don't get me wrong. Man Utd have won more trophies than Liverpool and are a bigger club than Liverpool, so I can see why it's such a big thing for Liverpool fans to hammer us. Let's not forget Spurs and Man City have hammered us in recent years 6-1. Liverpool are a great club and I'm not bitter about them at all they have a fantastic ground and fan base, but let's face it this season all they have to shout about is a record equaling hammering of Man Utd, who would have thought that after last season, Liverpool have always over celebrated the minor victories.

Have Utd won more trophies that Liverpool? I thought Pool were one up, pre Utd's League cup win. I guess it depends on what you consider a major trophy. Some of those things count the Charity Shield and European Super Cup. Both of which are glorified friendlies for me. The ESC is possibly slightly more prestigious but even so.
That world club cup thingy is another I'm not sure if I would count or not.

Even at that, (say) three League cups is a pittance compared to two CL's. But the side with the three LC's is ranked higher.
Yes, I know, no one has JUST two CL's, I'm just saying 'quality' needs to be considered rather than just 'quantity' some times.
Would you rather a threesome with Susan Boyle and Dot Cotton, or just shag Megan Fox?
The guy who has the threesome can claim to have had a threesome and shagged more birds. But **** me, I'd sooner cut my balls off than go near either of those two. Megan fox on the other hand….isn't bad looking!

If you count Charity Shields which is classed as a top flight trophy then Man Utd are one ahead. If you don't then Liverpool are. Not really sure how you can count the Super Cup but not the Charity Shield. To win the Charity Shield you usually have to beat Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal. Not the case if you've won the CL for the Super Cup you usually have to beat Seville! I only really go on about the trophies because growing up I was surrounded by Liverpool fans who used to drill home how they had won this and won that and they're always going go on about the 6 European Cups, even though they won 4 of those when the competition only really had 5 meaningful games when the quarter finals started. Not taking anything away from Liverpool, but you used to get teams like Crusaders of Belfast and Trabzonspor in the first 2 rounds and hey presto your in the last 8. I wander how different the 70's and 80's would have been if the top 4 from the top 4 leagues in Europe qualified for the European Cup?

Talking of qualifying for the European Cup I reckon Man Utd's top 4 finish is in jeopardy now Cassemiro is suspended for 3 league games. I refuse to get drawn into the negativity how **** referees and VAR have been this season as there is absolutely nothing I can do about it but it's genuinely costing Man Utd points this season. Cassemiro played in Spain for over 500 games and didn't get sent off once, I guess that's the Real Madrid affect that Man Utd are supposed to have.

Fair one. I would count the ESC over the Charity shield purely cos you can't fluke getting to it. Was it Millwall a few years ago made an FAC final without playing a single PL side? Had whoever beat them (Utd I think) also won the PL then Millwall would have been in the Charity Shield. Granted it is a fairly unlikely set of circumstances and you could probably create a similarly unlikely set for a EL win, but surely to make a EL final you would have to beat SOMEONE better than a Championship side? Especially with the nonsense of 3rd place CL sides dropping in.
You probably have to either count both CS and ESC or neither. I'd probably got for neither, but no strong opinion either way. If I had to rank trophies in order of importance or prestige, the CS is below the ESC, and both are at the bottom.
A list of who has won the most is pretty useless unless you weight the trophy wins in my opinion. But that just opens another can of worms regarding how you weight them etc. Safe to say both sides have done alright over the last 30-40 yrs.

As for the CL being easier back in the 70's and 80's, I'm on the fence. Yes, you did get shitter sides in it, and you only had one English/Spanish/Italian side to worry about (or 2 if the defending champ didn't win their domestic league). BUT, there was no group stage nonsense, it was pure knock out. If you have a stinker first leg then you have the second leg to sort it or that's you done. And if your stinker was caused by a red card or mass injuries they would still be in play two weeks later. (I think ties were played fortnightly way back when, I could be wrong). None of this, "ahhh well we have 4 other group games to get enough pts to get through." Also, that was before money destroyed the competitiveness of football. So teams from Sweden, Holland, and Eastern Europe were actually reasonably tricky, rather than three easy points (earned when you make 5 changes as well). Plus travel wasn't quite as easy then either.
It's genuinely hard to say if it was easier or harder to win back then. We'd need a time machine to know for sure.

I did see Casemiro's red card. I think it was probably a red. As was Fabinho's that he got away with a few weeks ago. What does piss me off is, apparently the VAR bod who told the ref to upgrade Casemiro's was the same guy who the day before let the Leicester play off scott free with a tackle that is the ****ing definition of a red card. A proper leg breaker, and yer man isn't even booked. The officiating in the PL is woefully bad and it will end up costing a club millions via relegation, a missed title or missed CL/EL spot. And what happens to the ref….FA squared.
I do sympathise with Utd fans being pissed at that red. I would be too.

I also saw this earlier today. I'm not using it as an excuse to absolve Pool of being utter shite for most of the season. I am more amazed that they are soooo far and away the worst affected by injuries. Feck knows what caused it. Having Naby Keita and Oxelaide Chamberlaine, who are perma crocks doesnt help. Nor does having played 427,000 games last season, but even so they are FORTY PERCENT worse than the second most badly affected side. Who the **** is Pool's doctor? Harold Shipman?

Interesting graph but Man Utd's injuries are distorted because Phil Jones is still on the books!

Can anyone explain this - I just checked the odds for each of the top six winning the title. As expected both Arsenal and City are the favourites at pretty much 50/50 (Arsenal just edging it.) Then:

Man United (50 points) 100/1
Newcastle (44 points) 250/1
Spurs (48 points) 1000/1
Liverpool (42 points) 1000/1

How are Newcastle FOUR TIMES more likely to win the title than Spurs, when they have 4 less points!? And United TEN TIMES more likely with only 2 more points?

Yeah, I know "LOL Spursy" but Newcastle haven't won anything for nearly 70 years, so that can't be the reason. Likewise yes Liverpool are having a bad patch but 1000/1, really!?

Now don't get me wrong it's a two horse race for the title, but anything could happen for 3rd-7th right now.

Think it's done on betting patterns, probably loads of mental geordies betting on Newcastle to win the league.

I don't understand betting odds beyond it being the chance of the event to happen combined with how people are actually betting.

If it makes you feel any better Coral have you, Pool and Newcastle all at 500-1. UTD are still way ahead in the bookies opinion.

Arsenal were 33/1 when I put my bet on in July by the way 😁
