Great result and after the first 40 minutes of nerves and silly errors, a very respectable performance... now to reclaim third!

Sod third, I want second! We've got Stoke away as our next game (the game in hand over Liverpool) whilst Man U play away at Man City, and if those 2 games go the way most people expect, we'll only be 1 point behind Utd :-D

How the hell Pardew got that job I'll never know. There is a ridiculous old boy network in English football and the media, but even at that Pardew's record at Palace (I think that was his last job) was absymal. I think he had won 3 in 38 or something along those lines. So I don't know quite what WBA expected when they appointed him. All he did was pick up where he left off.
Quite why they have sacked him now I don't know. The greatest manager who has ever lived couldn't keep them up now. 4/5 games ago they MAY have had a chance. Now all they can do is appoint someone who they hope will get them up from the Championship next year. Problem there is who is going to want the job? Any decent Championship managers will be employed and wouldn't want to leave a decent Championship job for a 6 week stint in the PL and a mamoth rebuilding. Is any manager who is managing a middling Championship side going to be the kind of manager they want? So they are left with the usual selection of failed ex PL British managers or a complete punt.

None of it makes sense.

Though given they announced in the week they had blown their season's budget for wages by March there is clearly something very wrong at that club. I doubt we'll see them in the PL any time soon.

It really makes no sense to me that the like of Pardew, Allardyce etc are just rotated around failing clubs. How can a team respond positively to a 'new' manager with a shite track record? Surely they would be better off getting in a new international manager or give a youngster a go. OK it might not work out but it's not like they would do any worse than the usual suspects.

I absolutely agree with this. I've marveled for years at the sheer stupidity of these clubs and their ridiculous unrealistic expectations from these crap managers. Manager 'A' fails miserably at rubbish Club 'B' and is promptly sacked, probably getting a large payoff in the process as the club just wants to get shot of him. Equally crap Club 'C' then needs a new manager and happily appoints Manager 'A' with a whopping great salary and such enormous fanfare you'd think they'd brought about the second coming, despite Manager 'A's consistent track record of abject failure. A few months roll by, but Club 'C' (which was and always will be crap), doesn't suddenly win the Premiership, and instead continues to prop up the league and looks certain to secure a relegation spot. So Club 'C' sacks Manager 'A' and he gets another nice payoff and moves on to be rubbish at equally rubbish Club 'D'... And so it goes on.

No-one ever seems to learn. These managers make an absolute fortune from failure! You can't polish a turd, and quite frankly some clubs will always be struggling stay in the top flight, but sacking a so-so manager only to replace him with a carbon copy is utter insanity! Either stick with your managerial choice and accept the fact that your club isn't Real Madrid and never will be, or else give someone completely new a try and see if they can do any better.

It really isn't rocket science

Pardew
Allardyce
Moyes
Pullis
Hughes
By no means a definitive list but all below par and all guaranteed to be linked with every job that comes up outside the top 10...
Redknapp used to be on that list too but somehow he pulled a blinder for a couple of seasons at Spurs which gave him ideas above his station and subsequently he didn't sit on the **** list for a while. He seems to have now packed in management (after the Birmingham sacking), but you can bet your arse he'll reappear at a failing PL team near you very soon.

And then you get clubs like Watford who sack aspiring managers who "only" finish tenth

Watford are a different kettle of fish. Their owner is muppet. Like Ibramovic but with much less cash. Taking a job at Watford is basically just agreeing a nice fat pay off in 6-12-18 months.

**** ME!!!!

I didn't see that coming. A clean sheet when Moreno was on the pitch, the odds on that must be a million to one.

Magic first half from Liverpool. Citeh didn't know what had hit them. Second leg 5-1 to Citeh

Will be interesting to see how much and what kind of coverage there will be of the bus attack. We got slaughtered for it a couple of years ago, despite the fact Man U deliberately turned up two hours later than they were advised to by the Met police and WHUFC, in order to try to take the wind out of our sales in our last game at The Boleyn. They tried it a couple of weeks previously with Spurs as well.

Here's a glossary for glossing over:
carnage > atmosphere
Yobs / thugs > fans
Bottles / cans > projectiles
Flares / missiles > pyrotechnics

I had a few Liverpool fans text me the second Liverpool scored their third to say they fancied City to win 4-3.

I can't see City being as poor/flat in the second leg, but nor can I see Liverpool pressing quite so high and hard. I suspect it will be a more targeted pressing by Pool. Making sure they don't get caught out. I can also see Pool scoring, assuming Salah is fit. So that means City need five. Which is what they put past Pool in the league game earlier in the season.

As for the bus incident. Disgusting. No place for that in football. Quite WTF any fan was thinking doing that is beyond me. UEFA have charged Liverpool and fair enough, they can't have any complaints. Personally, I'd hand out life bans to any "fan" proven to have thrown a beer can etc. The only thing that bugs me about UEFA getting involved is Galatasary did exactly this sort of thing for years and years and years, and UEFA did FA. Only when a Leeds fan was killed did they get involved. Now an English side does it and hey presto UEFA are their case straight away. Ok, Galatasary was 15 ish years ago, but the argument still holds.
I'm not English, but there is certainly plenty of ammunition for those who believe UEFA have it in for English clubs.

Though given how your fans behave when your national team plays away from home I can understand why.

That's Liverpool through, I've said it before this season can see Liverpool winning it. No attempts on target from city that is unbelievable. Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Liverpool in the semi finals they have won it 27 times between them, apart from AC Milan I don't think their could be 4 teams with a better European Cup pedigree in the semi's.

IF that's the semi final line up, and I ain't counting any chickens yet, what odds on Barca and Real being kept apart?
Those two are perennial CL qualifiers, they always make it out of their groups (the seedings guarantee it) and yet they have never played each other in a CL knock out round. When you think how many times Liverpool drew Chelsea in a row, how often Chelsea got Barca in the years after, ditto Arsenal and getting ripped apart by Bayern (well, anyone decent) etc etc and then low and behold the two biggest names are kept apart year after year after year. I'm sure it's just a coincidence.

Ps, if they do draw each other in the semis it will be three Classicos in 10 days, as they have a league meeting as well! 8)

They did meet in the semi finals a phew years back, 2011 I think without googling it! I remember it got ridiculous with the diving and faking injury. They played each other in the league and Spanish cup around the same time. But I totally agree it's amazing how they never draw each other, I said to the Mrs you have two English sides in the quarters and they draw each other. Three Spanish sides and guess what they manage to miss each other. I'm hoping it's the final just for the spectacle and it means Liverpool aren't there.

You're right. I should have checked that before I wrote it. I can't remember where
I saw it, but I need to stop reading whatever site it was.

In 2010/11 Barca won, and they played in 2001/02 with Real winning. Bizarrely in both years, the away side in the first leg won 2-0 and drew the home leg 1-1.

I'll still put money on them being kept apart.

Predictions for tonight?

I think a lot depends on what team Pep puts out. I could see 8+ changes, which will limit any cohesion the team has. In two ways I hope he doesn't make mass changes. 1) cos I wanna see Utd lose and have to watch as City celebrate the title. 2) As a Liverpool fan, I'd quite like the City first team to be as tired as possible. Is it bad I wouldn't mind if a few pulled hamstrings?
Jose won't follow Liverpool's high pressing blue print. It's not his style. He can't suddenly get his team to go from playing with the handbrake on to playing ultra attacking, that's asking to be ripped apart. Besides, Jose has never been, and will never be, an ultra attacking manager. He's too pragmatic. Saying that, sitting deep and pinging long balls to the gaps between City's CB's and full backs, like they did against Trent Alexander Arnold when they played Pool, could be a very affective tactic. Plus it'll suit Jose's safety first mantra. City's shape depends on full backs pushing on to make extra midfielders when they attack, by default that leaves space. Lukaku and rashford, with Lingard pressing on from midfield, might just cause City problems.

As for Merseyside derby, I think Jurgen's hands are tired in a lot of ways. He has no option but to play VVD and Lovern as we have no other fit CB, Matip (Gomez and Klaven are injured) bar a kid from the academy. I wouldn't be surprised to see Moreno and Clyne start at full backs. Henderson is suspended on Tuesday so he plays 90 mins today. Then it's 2 from Milner, Ox and Winjanden (spelling). Up front, if he has sense he rests Salah. Mane and Firminio depend on how brave or how much a gambler he is. Problem is Pool don't have many options. Lallana and Can are highly unlikely to play, so you have midfield/forward options of Solanke and Ings. Ben woodburn may get a game.
Sturridge, Grujic, Origi, Flanagan and Markovic are all out on loan so the tea lady may get a spot on the bench! Lol

Everton will never have a better chance to beat Liverpool.
Tho if Fat Sam picks a CM pairing of Rooney and Siggy again it will end just as badly as it did last week. I wonder will Schneiderling manage to complete a pass to someone in his own team inside 35 minutes this week. He didn't last week.

How did Everton not win that? I've never seen so many missed chances in the last 15 mins of a game. Bizarre that Liverpool were seemingly playing for a draw
