Fishing maniac thread

Yeah, it's a nice one, I have another pic holding it up so you can see the size better, will upload it with the vid.
The rumor is there are chars over 4kgs at this lake, but never seen one on pics or at the lake, so the legend is alive :p
I think I have my fish nemesis now, have to think of a proper name for him though, then I can start the hunt! 8)

That's a whopper. 8)
How do you like to cook them? Any special recipe from the Tundra you can share? They look like they would be tasty after being put through a smoker.

I just fry them in a pan with loads of butter over a fire, with some bread, very simple really.
Cooking them outdoors gives them that tasty smoke flavour, and the skin gets so crispy, it's almost like bacon!

Haven't come across a decent recipe that suits my pallot yet, I'm very picky when it comes to fish. :p

Simple garlic sauce recipe.

2 tablespoon garlic paste/chopped garlic.
1 tablespoon Oyster sauce.
250ml whipping cream.
tablespoon butter
teaspoon oil.

Fry off the garlic a little in the oil and butter.
Once it has cooked a little, add cream and oyster sauce.
bring back to a light boil and reduce heat to cook for a few minutes more.
Pour on fish.

Just make sure you cook the garlic off a little first. Don't burn it to the shithouse though.

I have garlic prawns all the time. Trust me when I say it is yummy. 8)

Garlic is a must have on most my food, but never tried it with fish before, so I'll do your recipe
with a smaller char, just in case I don't like it ;)

The chars in the pics are going on the grill on tuesday, having a barbecue with my uncle and his family, will be a nice food fest! 8)

Doesn't matter what fish you use. It's a sauce. just dip you finger in the bastard when it is done. If it tastes okay..chuck some on the fish. IF it tastes **** to you, throw it in the bin yah muppet. Then you are only wasting a bit of cream etc...not a nice fish

Lol, thought you ment like a marinade mate, I'm a bit tired, was out until 10 am this morning, had no sleep! :p
But I'm still a muppet though, no argument there!

Went fishing again today, the walk there took an hour and a half, never been so far up river, didn't catch
too much fish, lost two chars/trouts at about 2kgs, so ended up just with these ugly buggers:

I stood mostly down on the right of this "island", was surprised at the water level, the rest of the river is too big to fish in,
yet here it was almost to little... But a view to die for!

I never eat pike, if they're big enough, the local hotel buys them though, for the local menu.
These are from 1.5 - 3.5 kgs.
Last summer, me and my mate caught 18 pikes in one day! The biggest was 11kgs! :p
They're lots of fun to catch, until you notice that they are pikes though, I was gutted when I pulled the biggest
out of the water....

Pike make pretty good eating if they are small (3 to 6 pound) but you have to soak them for 24hrs in salted water & steak them rather than fillet, if you have never tried its worth giving them a go, not as nice as char or salmon, but good eating all the same, my best was 3 in one day up to 9 pound.

18 in a day though

We have something called "pike-cakes", grounded pikemeat fried in a pan, a traditional dish, but never been close to trying it..... :p
Caught the 18 pikes in about 12 hours I believe, with 8 perch.
Going to try perch roasted on an open fire this summer though, that's as far as I go with garbage fish!

Perch are supposed to be excellent eating, though you try finding one in the UK waterways big enough to eat  I caught a 3.5 pounder in the Hamburg canal system as a kid & was chuffed to bits till a guy walked past & said he caught a 5 pound one at the weekend out of the same stretch, the fishing in Germany was much better than here & the fish grow much larger there, I even hooked a wells once which was pretty freaky as I was 12 & the fish was bigger than I was, suffice to say I almost got puller in & the line snapped on me :( - the one that got away.

& it is indeed a stunning location you have to angle in there m8, not a drop of sweet water to fish where I live now, so I have to see fish which is a mixed blessing.

& Todd - do one!, though it should be big enough to :)

Thanks, all of this is basically in my backyard! 8)
Lol at the one that got away, but better you stayed dry than getting pulled in!

This fridays catch, a 600g trout:

And this I caught this morning, after 8 hours, 1.5kg char!!!!!! 8)
Almost gave up this time, my line broke and I lost my best lure, mosquitoes everywhere, and not a nibble all day.....
But when my mate got his line caught in the engine, we made it to shore to fix it, and I thought I'd try casting from
shore, and what do you know, this lovely fishy followed my lure in but didn't bite at first, did it again, and he bit hard!
