Bit late to the party but i'll stick my two pence in.....
Mainly happy for my son as he will get to experience the excitement of a new star wars release and yes i am excited too altho i do have severe reservations for what the new ones might hold :?
As for an opening scene, how about boba fett flying out of the sarlac pit having escaped soon after the empire fell (so around the end of rotj) and then tye storyline picks up some 20 years later.....I would love to see the old main characters back and forsee Luke being a jedi master training his nephew or niece (han and leia must have gone off and got it on... onscreen and off  ) c3po and r2 will def be in there and to appease the political correctness brigade c3po may have come out of the closet  well there are quotas to fulfil.
As for the argument, the original trilogy was made for kids of that generation using the cutting edge of technology, the next 3 followed suit, they werent really made for us original fans, they were for a new generation of fans to pick up the batton. And this was a generation brought up on cgi who werent going to accept anything other than the cutting edge of technology for their time.
And altho we are only a little further ahead in technological advances surely they wtill be using the latest cutting edge advances and thats 3d
For me personally the cgi ruined the way the characters looked, which was fake, you cabt beat puppetry but i cant see them spending time creating real life puppets and creatures when they can do it all on a computer.
To echo a repeated thought it clearly keeps the vintage collecting alive.... so better get on with completing my sets before the next generation want to star getting their hands on them. People are living longer so it will be ages before some of those collections come back onto the market.
