Well aren't you a funny

Typical that we get City in the fourth round, but it's quite an even draw overall, only gimme looks like United

A double miracle draw, Pool actually draw a non PL side AND City not only don't get a home tie against the weakest side left in competition but they get a tricky away tie with Spurs.

And Bruno Fernandes that was ****ing pathetic. Diving after minimal contact against a League One side. Have some ****ing decency.

Yes, Jota's was a dive and shouldn't have been a pen, I ain't defending it, but that Bruno pen was ****ing shameful.

Yeah that's what you get from a Portuguese international! Was a penalty in my opinion, although I do think the rules should change to give the referee a choice to say it's not a pen because of simulation. It's a free kick anywhere else on the pitch. Was clumsy defending, but does the punishment fit the crime? I don't think so.

One things for sure, football is a lot more enjoyable without VAR.

I like the idea and intention of VAR, the implementation and use of it has been awful.

Offside checks should remain, albeit laws need looking at, and Hawkeye (or whatever is used for goal line tech) should be used for all out of bounds across the goal lines.

The officials operating VAR need to be either independently appointed (ie not mates with the ref) OR there needs to be a culture shift away from thinking theyre trying not to undermine their mate, to one of making the correct decision for the whole game. That's the whole point of slow motion, multi angle reviews, get it ****ing right. Refs shouldnt feel emasculated by being overruled, they should welcome the correct outcome.

Really? (And I include the Jota one in this) You think there was enough there for a foul? It is a contact sport remember so contact does NOT equal a foul, albeit some referees seem to think it does. Yer man does touch Bruno's foot, but **** me, my 2 year old wouldn't fall over there. For a grown man to throw himself to the ground like that.....
Minimal contact does not equal a foul for me. I don't want to a see a return to the 80's or 90's where GBH was allowed, but there is a difference between a "foul" and brushing a blokes boot.

When I take over the world, that sort of nonsense will be a free kick to the defending side and a yellow card for Bruno/Jota. And to make sure they don't get to do it again the opposing manager gets to boot them in the plums right before the restart. Problem solved.

That doesn't stop a **** up like the Pool non goal at Spurs though.
They need a set process to go through. In cricket the ref says "review for LBW or caught" etc and then the TV umpire confirms that's what he is looking at. That Pool goal at Spurs was two blokes chatting down the pub.

100% they need clear communication. Should be as you said, or like your beloved egg chasing - hi VAR - on field decision is goal, please check for offside/foulplay/diving **** etc
And the response should be "you may award the goal/no goal/foul etc

You can't kick an apposition player in the penalty box and not expect to give a penalty away, not at that level and especially not with Anthony Taylor refereeing!!! I think it was harsh but you just can't be that clumsy, I would have no complaints if it was the other way around it's as clear as it will ever be. Contact is excepted if you win the ball first.

Like I said before I don't agree with it, but you can see they will always give that as a pen……….role on this weekend and VAR is involved with a similar incident and no pen is given. 🤣 @weasel

And here was me thinking it's the winter break this weekend - looks like it's half and half again though

I just can't see how any sane person (insert your funny joke about your sanity given the team you support ;-)) thinks that level of contact warrants a foul. In that case every single corner should be a penalty as CB's almost always touch/hold the striker/forward with more force than was used to gently clean the tip of Bruno's boot.

Aye, half the teams play this week and half next week. With FAC replays thrown in so some clubs don't actually get a break.

Touching and holding isn't the same as striking another player. You can't just kick another player who's gone past you. It's not a man's game like Hockey. 😉 @weasel

Just cos we wear skirts when we play, doesn't make it a girl's game!

ps, I haven't played for 10yrs, hamstrings destroyed. #TooFuckingOld

@lejackal, I might occasionally put the skirt on…..just for 'Old time's sake' though. Honest

10 years retired, that's a really long time. You must be old @weasel !
It's a young man's game. Auto-pass and rolling subs means very few players, at a decent level, make it beyond their mid 30's. Even fewer midfielders. I was a holding midfielder and did bloody well to last as long as I did.
I'd say the average age of top teams over here is probably very early 20's.

@edd_jedi any ideas on that new CB Spuds signed? I know FA about him, but he must be more use than two full backs's playing at CB surely?

And Sancho shipped off to Dortmund. Be interesting to see if he gets move in the summer, or if his form picks up. Him turning up late for his medical does sum up his problems perfectly.
