Correct but never used before in the PL?
Possibly, although Jiminez got two very quick yellows against City earlier in the season.

But Chris Baird got sent off for an identical incident a few years ago when Norn Iron were playing Hungary at Windsor Park. Both of his were ridiculously soft as well, the kinda thing you see given and wonder WTF the ref is thinking, to get two of them for (non) fouls within 10 seconds of each other was a ******* piss take. Apparently UEFA/FIFA use video of that game to show refs what to do, and that is used as a CORRECT example.

As far as Martinelli goes, both incidents were yellow cards. So the red is fine for me. He deserved to be booked for being so stupid, twice. The jumping in front of someone as they take a throw is pretty much a stonewall yellow. Yes, people try and delay throw-ins pretty often, but ehhh not quite THAT blatantly. The shoulder barge was a foul and yer man was all set to whip in a cross. Had that been anyone else at any other time people would have said it was a yellow. Just cos he had already commited a daft foul, he should get away with that? Nah, piss off. And the ref played advantage cos Wolves had the ball and were on the attack. A bit unfair (as Martin Keown suggested) for the ref to penalise Wolves cos an Arsenal player was a spanner. Wolves lose the chance to attack on an unprepared Arsenal and Arsenal gain the advantage of not having a man sent off. Yes, Martin, that's a good solution. Moron.
Martinelli was ******* stupid, he deserved to be booked for both, and he was. End of. Both were yellow cards, the only controversy is cos it's such an unusual incident. In this case, I agree with the ref.

That also means Arsenal are now the dirtiest club in PL history ;-) They've had more red cards than anyone else (101, I think, to Everton's 99).

Top of the league 😜

A couple of points on the throw in;

If the ball is out of play when the offence is committed how can you be playing advantage rather than stopping play? Play is already stopped.

Does advantage stretch to ignoring foul throws? (Something else we seem to get pinged for)

Foul throws happen in every single PL game I watch, it's really annoying how they never get pulled up on. No context to this discussion but something I need to point out. lol

Arsenal do. Bellerin got pinged for half a dozen last season and we've been had for a couple this season as well

Well that's 4 points Southampton didn't think they would have three days ago, it's bizarre how these teams can play so badly for so long and then all of a sudden put in Champions League level performances out of nowhere.

One day I'll come on here after a Spurs game and praise our defending. Today is not that day.
Two more embarrassing goals today through sheer incompetence. City next, so that's going to be four straight defeats. Season over

If you mean for the throw in that Martinelli was booked for blocking, I assume the foul commences as soon as the ball is thrown, he starts it before then, but ti continues right up until yer man releases it. It also was NOT foul throw as I have seen some people claim.
Ohh and the ball doesn't need to be in play for you to be booked. I think the record fastest sending off in a game is zero seconds. Someone came on a free/coner and before the ref blew to start play he swung for someone else. Red card.
It MAY only be for certain offences, violent conduct etc. I'm not entirely sure.

Yeah, that was shambolic. Lloris kops the blame for both goals. A shocking pass and a pathetic attempt to punch it, ******* CATCH IT, for the second (I think).

Gutted for Newcastle that Trippier has broken his foot, that's just **** luck. Saying that, we've just got Romero back from a long term injury sustained shortly after signing and our defence has got worse

Wouldn't you rather they went down to at least delay the inevitable that they join the top table teams? Not wishing him ill but getting top 4-6 is hard enough as it is, never mind top 3

I still don't get why he traded in a shot at La Liga and the CL for a relegation dogfight in the Geordie Wonderland. I mean, beyond the money.
He's been a professional in the PL/Spain for 10+yrs and has a tonne of
England caps. He can't need more money. Eddie Howe even managed to keep a straight face when he claimed Trippier was there for "the challenge."

Can only have been he wanted to come back to the UK. Can't have been short of offers though, he's a good, solid player

And to be fair, I doubt the Atleti fans were exactly cheering his name. He'll be a hero to the Geordies

Well although I still haven't forgiven Newcastle for beating us 5-1 on the last day of the 15/16 campaign, I'm fine with them buying their way above Chelsea!

Exactly. I have no idea why Bale went to Real for the same reason. Nobody there likes him, he's wasted the best years of his career, for money he didn't need. So many footballers do it. So good on Trippier for seeing the light.

Yep, apart from living the superstar lifestyle, once you hit about 20-30k a week (I imagine this is relatively easy in the PL) how much difference does the rest make to how you live and what you can leave your kids etc?

Bale did ok to start with though, his first year or two were pretty successful. After that it nose dived. What is he on 600kpw, that is just an obscene amount for anyone to earn. TBF Bale did not help himself. He has been at Real for how many years now and he still cant speak a word of Spanish, that's ******* pathetic.

As for Trippier, I agree, but surely he could have got a better offer than Newcastle? Yeah, they could be good in a year or 3 if they stay up, but he is 31 so that won't be much use to him. Unless he gambled that a fat salary and signing on fee were worth the risk when he had a relegation release clause. No lose for him. Still a strange old move.

Ohh and the AVERAGE PL player is on 60kpw. Just over £3m a year, pre bonus, sponsorship, signing on fees, image rights etc etc. Though HMRC will take 40% of the salary and their Agents and hangers on probably bleed them for a heck of a lot of the rest of it.

Agents really is a byword for leeches

Yeap, 100%.

I get players are wary of being ripped off by clubs, it certainly happened in decades gone past. But the PFA can supply an agent for you, he negotiates your contract and takes a small fee (I have heard that is what James Milner does.) Unlike normal agents who take the piss. What was it Pogab's agent got for negotiating his move back to Utd, 10m? For a deal where Juve were happy to sell, Utd where happy to buy and Pogba wanted to go. It's extortion.

Agents get paid when you move, as well as getting x% of your weekly salary, so they are incentivised to get you a move. Why Clubs even bother dealing with them I dunno, but i guess until every club say "no"...

Some result that for Rangers.
Only job half done, and surely Dortmund cant be that bad in the second leg, but still impressive.

Celtic, ehhh less so. Bodo are far from a "bad side", they beat Roma 6-1 FFS, but that was a 'no win' game for Celtic. Everyone expected them to beat a side they assumed was **** cos they had never heard of them. When in fact they were a pretty solid outfit.

You have to think Dortmund will be full strength for the away leg, not that they shouldnt in theory have had enough last night to beat Rangers

So how may games do you think will be called off this weekend due to the weather? I bet I know which game won't

It's a funny old game, you lose two matches you should win and then win a game you should lose. The joys of being a Spurs fan!

It nearly ended in disaster though, how many times have Spurs conceded penalties from questionable handballs? That was no way intentional and I would have been furious if we had drawn because of it. So justice was done IMO.

Credit to Spurs today, that's the kind of performance I know they can deliver, so where is it most games?

Something I just noticed watching MOTD, every time Spurs got the ball in the net (4 including the disallowed goal) all of the City defenders and/or keeper immediately put their hands up for offside. Is this something Pep tells them to do? The first and last goals were nowhere near offside! Cheating bastards.

That was my thoughts as well. That would frustrate me if I was a Spurs fan, you can beat one of the best sides in the world, twice in the league, but lose stupid games to sides who aren't even half as good.

Saying that the picture from PL stat people below makes it look like the definition of daylight robbery. That wasn't the impression I got, although I was only half watching it and in silence as the munchkin couldn't hear Peppa Pig otherwise. Sigh.

Ohh and as for the pen, as a neutral, I do think that was a pen. I can definitely see why you would be pissed if it was given, and I was hoping it wouldn't be, but yer man has his hand coming down like that, it just doesn't look right. I think those should be given rather than not. He is throwing himself at it but his arm comes down in a weird way and refs are gonna give that. It's not as bad as the one Palace got against Spurs at the start of last season (or was it's Spurs got it against Palace?) but on balance, I'd have given it.

And Lloris, WTF are you doing for that furst goal?
Piss poor keeping, again. That new contract is gonna be for a lot less than it would have if this form keeps up.
