The imaginatively titled Premier League 21/22 Thread

Yes I agree Arsenal were hard done by having to play Brentford in their first game with a few players out. But it's just typical the game they got out of was the one against Spurs, that's all.

Everyone knocks Athletico Madrid for there style of play and rightly so, I do. But DS has won 8 trophies for Athletico, that's not bad for a club with a fraction of the resources Barcelona and Real have. The Athletico fans absolutely adore DS like a god because of what he's done. I'd like to see Pep be as successful at a club like Athletico, not sure he would tho. It takes some coaching to get a group of players to act and play like that for 90 minutes.

Well that's two hours of my life I won't get back, Christ Atletico are soul destroying to watch. How can anyone call Jose "park the bus" yet watch that dross? And the cheating is just next level, I don't understand how they're allowed to get away with it.
I'm glad someone other than me hates Atleti as well. On the one hand you do have to admire how well drilled they are. BUT it is eye gougingly bad to watch and the diving, time wasting, calling for the other team to be booked every time they come within 10 feet of you, and general 'being a wankstain' that that club exude, really does piss you off…..after about 10minutes.

I'd sooner watch a Fat Sam or Tony Pulis side and that says it all.

Ten Hag deal done, very happy with that. It's the first of about 100 steps Man Utd need to make to rebuild the club. Obviously not getting carried away, apparently half the squad are not sure about him, so they can piss of hopefully.

I saw an interesting stat the other day that the last two Ajax managers to make be leagues didn't see the year out, never mind the season. He looks a good manager but unless you recruit properly with an actual plan you'll still be clutching at straws

Agreed and none of those things are in place, he will need a 5 year plan IMO. The big thing for me is he plays exciting football, which we haven't had for 10 years. Watch out Arsenal we're coming for you. It's certainly the first appointment that I'm genuinely excited about.

You've got a really talented squad of players but I don't think you have a balanced team. Some of the quality you have is right up there though

I'm not sure, a lot of over paid England stars that have never won anything of note, Rashford for example, he's 24 and hasn't really improved since he made his debut, but he's still living of the young Man Utd academy player that burst onto the scene reputation. Not sure he's good enough, first touch let's him down to often, runs into blind ally's, shoots when he should pass. That's just one player. I feel a lot of the squad has suffered from 3 years of poor/none coaching from Ole's regime.

Surely Frank's days are numbered now, or are the Everton owners going to let him take them down!?

Yeah have you seen Everton's remaining fixtures, can't really see where 5 wins are coming from? Shocking if they go down.

Ten Haag looks a good appointment. On paper he is what Utd need. If he is allowed time to mould/sort the team out then UItd have a chance of challenging again. The problems will come from a squad who don't care, most of whom are overpaid and know no one else will pay them half as much so if they get sold they take a huge wage cut, hence it's in their interest to get the manager fired. Plus a Board who know FA about football or are primarily concerned with finances and not football.

Still, I step in the right direction for Utd, sadly lol.

Agreed on Lampard. That was a daft appointment to start with. He has no track record of relegation fights. In fact his track record is bang average. He took sides to exactly where you would expect them to be. That's NOT what you need when you are fighting relegation. To think the Everton fans graffitied their own training ground saying they didn't want the other fella who was in the running, despite him having won leagues and having shown he had a clue how to manage. I bet they are regretting that now.
Still given how much money they have wasted over the last 3 or 4 years it's hard to have any sympathy for them. And boy are they ****ed when they go down, financially they are properly ****ed. They are chancing their arm by claiming they are still JUST inside PL finance rules, but take away the PL TV money and reduce gate receipts and suddenly **** gets real. They'll do well to get rid of most of the shite they bought as well. Plus I doubt they put relegation release clauses or wage reduction clauses in their contracts.

Ohh and that 1st penalty they got was a joke. Gordon feels a little contact, takes two steps then LITERALLY swan dives. THAT'S NOT A PEN. THAT'S A DIVE! VAR looked at it and saw no reason to over rule. You have to wonder WTF those boys smoke. Contact does not equal a foul. Taking 2 steps then swan diving kinda gives away that the contact wasn't enough to knock him over. Still, good old VAR.

Ohh and nice of Chelsea to defend like Everton last night too. They will do well to get through now.

Boy, the ref last night was absolutely abysmal. And as for VAR... The game is clearly corrupt, when you have a ref stopping play for fake cramp (in the first half!) and other miscellaneous fake leg injuries. He even let Lyon retake a foul throw! He sends Cresswell off for the lightest of touches when their striker is running away from goal and Bowen is flattened by a clear as day foul (way worse!) in the same phase of play. Dembele is a complete scumbag, with his wink after Cress got his marching orders. Then Bowen gets booked for pretty much nothing.

Also, how on earth is it fair that French teams can sign players out of window from Russia/Ukraine, to play in the last few games of the season, yet English clubs aren't allowed?

Yeah, I think the German league had similar issues. Not sure if they allowed it or not.

As for the WH game, I only saw bits of it. The ref did seem to stop every time a Lyon boys went down, the ref in the Chelsea game did the same on Wed night. Hopefully that's just two idiot refs who buy every attempt to break up play, if it's going to become more common then games are going to last 4 hours and ET will be longer than the half itself.

I'm kinda on the fence on the pen. I can see both sides of it. Demebele was going away from goal, from the 2 views I saw, so you can certainly argue it's not a 'clear goal scoring opportunity' as the angle is tight. But then WTF do UEFA count as 'clear goal scoring opportunity'. There is a BIT of contact, but probably not quite enough for Demebele to go down like he did, and the wink proves he was at best exploiting the situation or at worst cheating. But, at the same time, Cresswell has to know if he puts his arm on him the chances are he will go to ground and as the last man he is a world of trouble. I'm not sure there was a huge amount he could do, beyond getting into position sooner, but as soon as he reaches for Demebele he is asking for trouble. At least he had the sense to do it outside the box! By the rules of the game it probably was JUST ABOUT a red, but a very very soft one. A "European red" not the sort you would see in the PL. But I also think VAR should probably have told the ref to go and look at it again, as it does look a bit more of a dive in slow mo, and the wink says a lot. If I was a WH fan I would be pissed it was given, but I can see why it was.

I missed the second half so no idea on Bowen's booking and I don't remember the incident where he was cleaned.

One game at a time territory feels very much more like the wheels are off territory at the minute. Spurs in the box seat for 4th but the game in hand and the derby could still make all the difference.

Yep the North London merry go round is in action again, a few weeks ago we were a laughing stock and you'd won five games on the bounce. Things can change quickly, I would put money on there being more twists and turns yet!

And how ridiculous were Kane and Son today, is there any better attacking pair in the world?

I didn't see the City - Pool game but I'm assuming the score line and table shows there is virtually nothing in it this year! Should be an interesting run in. It's been a while since there was any real drama on the last day, would be nice.
