Yeah, I think the German league had similar issues. Not sure if they allowed it or not.
As for the WH game, I only saw bits of it. The ref did seem to stop every time a Lyon boys went down, the ref in the Chelsea game did the same on Wed night. Hopefully that's just two idiot refs who buy every attempt to break up play, if it's going to become more common then games are going to last 4 hours and ET will be longer than the half itself.
I'm kinda on the fence on the pen. I can see both sides of it. Demebele was going away from goal, from the 2 views I saw, so you can certainly argue it's not a 'clear goal scoring opportunity' as the angle is tight. But then WTF do UEFA count as 'clear goal scoring opportunity'. There is a BIT of contact, but probably not quite enough for Demebele to go down like he did, and the wink proves he was at best exploiting the situation or at worst cheating. But, at the same time, Cresswell has to know if he puts his arm on him the chances are he will go to ground and as the last man he is a world of trouble. I'm not sure there was a huge amount he could do, beyond getting into position sooner, but as soon as he reaches for Demebele he is asking for trouble. At least he had the sense to do it outside the box! By the rules of the game it probably was JUST ABOUT a red, but a very very soft one. A "European red" not the sort you would see in the PL. But I also think VAR should probably have told the ref to go and look at it again, as it does look a bit more of a dive in slow mo, and the wink says a lot. If I was a WH fan I would be pissed it was given, but I can see why it was.
I missed the second half so no idea on Bowen's booking and I don't remember the incident where he was cleaned.
