Great goal from Mata 8)

Great result for Utd first half was great to watch
stupid reaction from Gerard rash and def red.

Two very good performances back to back from utd, need to carry that on.

another obscene stamp from a liverpool player at the end , no need for that at all and hope he gets a ban
utd were superb today , take the applause guys you deserve it

Where the **** do I start?

Best team won, comfortably. Fair play.

Utd ripped Pool apart in first half hour. It was actually the carbon copy of what Pool did to everyone else last year. Pool had no answers and Brendan didn't seem to keen to make any changes (tactically) to nullify it. Pains me to say it, but that's the sort of situation Jose would have reacted to straight away.
Gerrard had to go. Red card, and 3 game ban, all day. Idiot. I thought his first tackle was fine, full blooded, but fine. I have seen people booked for that but that doesn't say much. Then he stamps on Herrera. Muppet.
At that point the game was there for Utd's taking. They really could, and should, have ripped Pool apart, destroyed their confidence and all but knocked them out of the CL running. Instead they went two up, through one of the best finishes I've seen this year, and then took their foot off the gas.
Fair play to Mata. The boy is quality and has been criminally under used by VG this year. Both those goals were great, the second was proper special. That deserved to win any game.
Ballotelli coming on was Rodgers waving the white flag. He was booked straight away and could have been booked again later in the game. As a Liverpool fan i cant say a single good thing about him. He refuses to run, ever. He slows up attacks. He's selfish on the ball. His attitude sucks. And he is our back up striker

I thought De Gea should have had Pool's goal, but maybe i'm being harsh.
A few strange decisions by the ref, Allen got the softest yellow i've seen in the first half and then Jones and Fellaini got away with poor tackles ten mins later. Saying that it didn't affect the out come of the game, even though Jones was booked later in the second half. Pool were poor. Or Utd didn't let them play delete as appropriate.

As for Skertl. Yeah, another stamp. Another idiot. Another 3 game ban coming his way i assume. Just waiting on Jose chirping in with some comment about it. After costa getting a ban for stamping on Pool, that wanker will be all over it. Skertl deserves it tho. No need, no excuse.

Ps, Rooney was lucky not to get booked for booting Mingolet, but it was just a yellow.

As for Pools next game, i think they need 7 wins minimum from their last 8. I can see Utd dropping pts at City and Chelsea. Pool REALLY can't lose next week. In fact a draw is prob not even enough.

Could today's game gave gone ANY worse for Liverpool? Lose to your biggest rivals, shoot your CL push in the foot, have your captain red carded after 33 seconds, have another player looking at a similar 3 game ban and your next game is away to Arsenal where you probably have to win and so far this millennium you've managed to go there and win twice.

I don't think the top four are set in stone YET but the odds favour it, prob 60:40!?

Great post Weaz. Very good summary. Agree with you And no your not be harsh on De Gea but with the season he has had I think we can give him that one.

Also a word on Rooney being selfish with the Pen at the end. Should have been Mata to take it. Poor

That stamp from Skertl was nasty - and deserves a ban - Gerrards was stupid but you could see he was pissed off with the tackle - still no excuse and he has been around long enough to know better - least he had the balls to front up afterward and admit to it

Webb now influencing Refs. No surprise with some decisions today. Unfortunately Liverpool were **** in the first half (missed the Gerrard sending off), but mong Jones should've gone!

Sour grapes. What for exactly?

You were beaten by the better side.

Utd were the better side and were clearly up for it. Gerard off yes. 100%. Complete idiot who lost his head and came out to prove something. Clearly failed.
Jones red? For the high, late tackle on the Pool winger. Possibly. Seen them given.
Skrtel. Will and should get a ban.
Rooney. Yellow deserved on the foul on keeper.
Ballotelli - was just waiting for him to be sent off. Could have done off the pitch with reaction to that awful tackle with Smalling I think.

The Ballotelli and Smalling incident was instigated/created by Ballotelli. It was handbags. Ref got it right not booking either. But on another day another ref could have booked either. Lets be honest would Ballotelli going off have hindered Liverpool? The ref act did Utd a favour by leaving him on the pitch.

The Jones tackle on Sterling (i think) was one of those strange ones. It was bad, and nowhere near the ball, a yellow seems like a bit of a let off, but then a red would be far too harsh. Given his earlier foul that he didn't get booked for maybe he was lucky, but decisions like that happen week in week out. They didn't affect the game, Pool never looked like getting anything.

As for Chelsea, typical of them. Play badly and grind it out. They are a horrible club, managed by a ****, and pretty brutal to watch. BUT it's effective and they are brilliant at grinding out results. That's why they are walking the title.
Much as I dislike them as a club and Jose as a manager, if I had to pick a team and manager to play a game with my life on the line, it would be them.

Ps, I have to agree on Rooney and the Pen. The game was over, let Mata have his hattrick. I act thought the pen was a little soft. There was contact but not enough to knock over a grown man. Mind you that is the way modern football is going, so from that point of view I can't have too many complaints. Second time Can has done that though.

WHAT is the CB doing?

Quality finish, but the CB gets side on and backs off and backs off. Tut tut!

Interesting weekend of results! Can't believe Spurs didn't beat ****ing Burnley, dull game. When they wonder why they're 9 points off the last CL spot in May I want them to remember West Brom, Burnley and QPR. Three easy games that any top-four team just has to win. As much as I enjoyed the Arsenal and Chelsea victories, it's pointless winning the big games if you lose to the minnows. Credit to Arsenal for their win at 'Pool but yet again every result went their way, must be nice having all the luck.
