Premier League Discussion Thread 2013/14

On a different subject.

Anyone else think Mourinho will be very lucky to keep his job?

Chelsea's worst season in ten years and that after all the money they spent/wasted on a dozen attacking midfielders when even Stevie Wonder could see they needed a striker. Ohh and sending the one striker you had who was capable of basic hold up play out on loan!? It's not as if his teams provide entertainment either, they are attritional at best. Apparently Ibramovic wants "Barcelona in a blue shirt". That's definitely not what Mourinho has provided.

I can't see him getting booted out, but I can't help but feel if the media didn't love him so much he'd be under a lot more pressure.

Very naive display again from Rogers. Need them 3 points juts to keep the pressure on City and still have a half decent chance of winning the title. Now they have no chance. It's gone. Trying to go for extra goals to close an implausible goal difference gap was a very silly thing to do. They wouldn't have got enough even with a 6-0 win so why try. Just get the 3 points. It's so basic it's kind of scary that someone at that level can get it so wrong. City still had to win 2 more games and that would not have been a given. Now City can win tyne league on wednesday. But i'd prefer they draw just so Rogers knows that the league was his had he held on to a 3-0 lead at Palace.

They can't win it on Wed. If/when they win they will be on 83. Pool are on 81. It goes to Sunday regardless.

I agree it's over though. But then I said that after the Chelsea defeat.

Are Spuds in the Useless-waste-of-time-league? Do Utd get dumped in there as well if Arsenal win the FA cup? Assuming league placing stay the same.

Didn't read it all (CBA) but it does sound daft.

There is a massive need for some form of competitive games for PL's reserve/B team sides, but putting them in a league and jamming it in between the conference and league two is hardly fair on the sides down there.
How the hell do you work promotion and relegation between the leagues? What happens if, say, Fulham's reserves finish in promotion place/ Do they go up to League Two or the conference?

There is a problem with a lack of competitive football for young players on the edge of PL teams, but this is a very bad solution to the problem.

Oh right, gotcha. Well a City draw would be good for Rogers to highlight how stupidly he set out his team in the latter part of that Palace game. Very very silly.

I believe Spurs have missed out on the horrible Eropa league which is a bit like winning the FA Cup. Great result. 8) :D

Not so Pete, if you finish sixth you will enter the EL at the 3rd qualifying stage as Man City's place (from the League Cup win) goes to sixth place. Enjoy those Thursday nights in the back of beyond and SUnday afternoon KOs!

I thought it went to Hull. Might be wrong but that's what i heard.

Does that mean Utd have totally missed out on European football no matter what? Gutted! I wanted to see them playing the might of Spartak Vladikavkaz on a Thurs night.

its not over til its over, c'mon villa LOL

i think rodgers got a bit excited at 3-0 he should have brought on toure and agger and shut up shop, but he went for killing the goal difference and paid the price.

still an amazing season, and if you had said to me liverpool were top with one game left i would have laughed at you.

as for man utd....**** em :)

i hope they have to use their youth players like we have and get some proper young guns ruling the premier league.

Sadly, it appears we didn't do an official "PL predictions" thread this season. Always interesting to see what people went for. But reading through the first few pages of the thread i found a few predictions from one or 2. Apart from Man Utd and Liverppol i didn't do too bad. Looks like 3 of the top 4 will be spot on. 8)

What were everyone's predictions for this season:

PGowdy:
1. Man City
2. RVP
3. Chelsea
4. Arsenal
5. Spurs
6. Liverpool
7. Everton

Cc4rhu:
"I don't think Man U will finish in top four." - good call.

1. Chelsea
2. Man City
3. Arsenal
4. Spurs
5. Man U - liverpool

Jackabina:

1. Arsenal
2. Liverpool
3. Southampton
4. Everton

Mumbo:

1st: Chelsea

Rob71:

1: Chelsea

itfcIain:

1st: Man City

Weasel:
"City will win FA with defending like that!" - Good call.

You've taken that totally out of context! I don't remember what the context was, but I assume it was after soem shamblock defensive **** up. And they didn't defend like that all season, hence they won the league.

Any thoughts on Ashley Cole not getting picked for WC?

I was a bit surprised. Granted he hasn't played all season, but he has bucket loads of experience which isn't something you can say about any of the other defenders. Plus Uncle Roy isn't exactly what you would call a brave manager. He tends to take the safest possible option every time.

That's right, i totally have.
I'm just ball biting. You made no actual predictions so i had to find something.

Bastard!

From memory, I predicted Liverpool would finish 2nd and Utd would be 7th!

Haha! I did look through about 10 pages of people chatting and you basically made no predictions whatsoever. Not like you. :?
I tried to get the ball rolling with my top 7 prediction but only one other person followed. Bit of a tumble-weed post.

Yeah, could swear I did a predictions thread, I normally do, but I mustn't have. Ahh well.

As for Utd, £27 million for Luke Shaw is a bag statement/gamble. Quality young player, no doubt, but is he worth £27 million, even allowing for that daft 'English premium'? I don't blame Southampton for demanding top dollar I just feel Utd are being held to ranson slightly. Time will tell I guess.

with Vidic, ferdinand and possibly evra gone utd are weak as piss at the back, going to cost a LOT to replace that experience.
