Premier League Discussion Thread 2013/14

Seconded.

Means Chelsea win the league if they win all 4 games left. Hopefully now we won't see Mourinho turning up and parking the bus at Anfield. Although knowing him it'll still be Matic and Mikel in the middle with Lampard and Ramirez out wide and Hazard/Oscar behind a lone striker and they'll play for 0-0 at HT and try and bore Liverpool into making a mistake and sneak a 1-0. Mourinho may be a successful manager, but his teams are bloody dull to watch. Ohh and he's a ****ing prick!

Yeah, i have this horrible feeling that Chelsea are gonna sneak in and nick the title now. That would be bad in so many ways. And one of the worst teams to win the title in the history of it (along with Man Us team last year).
Those were ****-ups of epic proportions from City and Everton last night. Tho City ought to be ashamed. Playing one of the worst teams in the league at home basically for a chance to win the Premier league. Pathetic.
Everton were a little unlucky to be playing a Palace team bang in form. Still no real excuse to lose at home. It's still on for them but that was a big loss. Could end up being the worst defeat in their (Premier League) history. :? Oops.

As for Liverpool v Chelsea, Rodgers just has to go for broke, only an early goal will suit Liverpool in that game.

But I also have a feeling Chelsea will nick it. It will be so richly undeserved if they do, they've played negative football all through the season, and though I will still be very pissed off if Liverpool don't win it and Man City do, that feelig would be multiplied by 10 if Chelsea get it. Such a dislikeable club.

Looking more like Moyes days are numbered, lots of speculation today and media Frenzy but the club are not stating he's been sacked, but don't comment on speculation ,...is their response

All sorts of rumours flying around

Interesting

I agree with Roy Keane. Moyes has been well and truly stitched up by Fergie. On a side note have you seen how old Fergie looks in less than a year? That's gotta be a health issue surely?
Fergie should have retired 3 years ago when a new manager had a team that didn't need a full rebuild. Manure will need to spend £150 million to compete next year. I think they could sell a lot of dross and raise close to £100 million but who'd want to join them with their current structure?

Agreed SAF should have stepped down, but loyalty to the club and timing kept him there.
Def has a health issue

As a director though which way will it go...does he stand down and cut ties if Moyes goes or does he do a Sir Matt and come back  ( doubt hat very much).

Just think there needs to be an end to all the bollocks and a spend on players this summer

You have to ask yourself though....if this had happened at any other club in the PL with such a disaster ours free fall ....would the manager still be in place?

Easy. NO! He wouldn't. At ANY other PL club Moyes would have been out by Xmas. He has been palpably out of his depth since day one. His body language and pre/post match interviews were blatant give aways. His "tactics" were (i'm being generous) pish! His ability to inspire players was minimal. His ability to change a game, be it via substitutions or tactical switches, was non existent. Yet he gets ten months to drag Utd back to mid-table also rans. And why did he get so long? Cos Fergy picked him!

In no other company or business would they let someone select their replacement so WTF let Fergy do it? Daft. They got exactly what they deserved.

I thought he had a contract clause regarding his payoff - a lot less if he dint qualify for CL than if he did. Explains why they stuck with him to it was mathematically impossible, the players are to blame as well. The worst thing that Moyes did was put Rooney on £300k a week - good luck to the new manager.....

Yeah, I think the rumours about that clause in contract are true. From that point of view I can see why they waited. BUT..........Had they acted at Xmas they may actually have made a decent fist of making the CL. Even if it was only a push for fourth.

I agree that Rooney on £300k a week is daft. He's not even that good. Sorry England fans, but he's really not. Would he make the Spain team? Or the German team?

Like him or not , overpaid or not, on the pitch he can turn a game, and puts in a shift, pationate about his football but loyalty to himself as opposed to the club.

I agree...stupid to keep Moyes so long, but understand the contract clause, the gauge was cost of removing DM at Christmas versus the cost of no top 4 finish and no CL place.

As a Utd fan...I simply want to move on now, don't harbour any grudges against DM as it wasnt his fault he was offered the job...FM! If they'd offered it me I'd have taken it :D need to build, play football as a team, with the MUTD passion of old ...get back on track...as with all things in life...look forward and be positive.

Yes he would make both the Spanish and German teams you arrogant twat. Both of their Shrek lookalike teams are hopeless.

RUBBISH!

Who's he gonna knock of the Spanish or German teams?

On his day he can be brilliant. BUT, when it's not his day he is little more than a plodder who runs around a bit. Watch last Sunday's game and tell me that's a "world class" player? In fact, watch pretty much any Utd game this season and tell me he's World class!
Good, maybe even brilliant, on his day, but not world class and "his days" are vastly out weighed by the games in which he does FA. The fact he's English means he gets an easy ride from the press and you lot love him.

On another note, it'll be interesting to see how Utd get only under Giggs/without Moyes. Will there be an instant return to the old free flowing Utd, or will it be a more gradual thing?

Dont agree with that Weaz. I dread to think where we would be without Wayne this season!! Look at the away game at the hullfor Instance or he kept us in the game at White Hart Lane against spurs

Ahhh ****! :(

Gutted to lose like that. We all knew Chelsea were going to turn up and park the bus. Fair play to them they are a fantastically well organised side and if anyone is capable of defending solidly for 90 mins it's them. Mind you that was one of the worst games of football I have seen in a while. Pool just couldn't break them down. Square pass after square pass 10-15 yards outside Chelsea's box. It may have been effective from Mourinho, but my god he sucks the life out of football. I can't see him having won many/any fans from the neutrals there. Although I know he doesn't give a ****.

I think the incredible lack of depth in Liverpool's squad was highlighted quite clearly yesterday. They basically have 14 players. With Henderson suspended and Sturridge blatantly not fit, they were left with the starting eleven and Agger. Much as I rate Agger, he's not really someone to bring on and help you turn a game! Lol.
Look at Ass-pass' contribution when he came on. He took one corner and played it to the edge of the box where there were ZERO Liverpool players and one lone Chelsea player. That was the only thing he did.
Ok, you can blame Rodgers (and Kenny, Uncle Roy) for wasting money on Ass-pass, Borini and Luis Alberto (Carroll, Adam, Downing, Konchetsky etc) even with those three that's a 17 man squad, 18 if you want to count Moses, who has flattered to deceive. Still a fantastic achievement to be involved in the title race with 2-3 games to go and I would have bitten your hand off if you had offered me 4th at the start of the season. To have (at worst) third and to have been genuinely involved in the title race is amazing. To have had 10 months of laughing at Moyes and Utd is even better.

I can't see City dropping any points from here. The Sunderland game will be their wake up call. Everton Losing to Saints means they effectively have nothing to play for. If Arse beat Newcastle tonight, and the Toon players have been on the beach for about 6 weeks, I think Everton's CL push will be over and City will beat them.
I also worry about the psychological impact of yesterday on Liverpool, especially with it being Stevie G who sold the puppies. I can see a draw a Palace next Monday.

Still gutted to have had the title push ended by Mourinho and his anti football. I never liked him (or John Terry) but now I'll happily cheer for Athletico!

The thing is if you had said to me Liverpool to finish 2nd or 3rd 20 points ahead of man utd i would have said jesus christ yes.

what an achievement this year, and as much as i hate chavski, mourinho is a wanker but a tactical genius, he came to anfield and won 2-0, you cant knock him tactically.

I was really shocked as from all i'd read i the papers and everything the pundits and fans were saying for the last 2 weeks i assumed Liverpool had already won the title.
I personally still thought it was gonna be a very difficult job given 1 single slip up would be all it would take for City to win the title, be it against Chelsea or even winning that game and the next and then having to go into the last game knowing that if you lose it you lose the league title probably never to have another chance in the next 5 or 6 years. Brick it time!! It's the incredibly plausible scenario that no one seemed to be talking about.
Liverpool were always gonna have a tough time against Chelsea given they have the best defence in the league (17 clean sheets is no fluke!) and Mourinho is a master at these types of games- like he said: they've beaten City twice and now Liverpool twice. Add to that Liverpool can't defend for **** so all Chelsea had to do was decent and wait. It was a no brainer really.
Liverpool are still well in it, obviously, and i hope they still do it but it's gonna be really tough now. Not just because they have to hope for a City slip up; could easily happen (Everton are gonna be tough), but also pick themselves up, get their confidence back and hold their nerve in the last 2 games.
It sad to say it but i think City are gonna go all the way now and the likelihood is Liverpool will miss out. Altho there's been enough twists and turn so far to assume there may be one or 2 more to come. It's certainly gonna be one of the most exciting and unpredictable ends to a Premier League season ever. Just please god don't let Chelsea win it.

Just the media doing their usual routine of getting carried away, blowing things out of all proportion in an atempt to sell a few more papers. I do agree it was a joke though.

I've been telling all my MU supporting mates who have been telling me Pool had it "in the bag," that I fully expected them to slip up somewhere. It's Liverpool, it's what they do!

Amen to that! Will break my heart if I have to see Mourinho or JT celebrating this season. Mind you, If City win JT will probably be in the middle of the celebrations in his full City kit anyway!

Really good to hear that Abu Diaby has not claimed any wages in his lengthy injury absence. First game for reserves yesterday and he's injured again.

I have to disagree with the media on that game being a tactical masterclass from Mourinho. Any manager can put 10 men behind the ball and kill the game. Steve McLaren used to do it game after game with Boro. Having said that Chelsea defended well and I don't think I saw them make one error. I'm hoping against hope that if we manage to lose against Palace (a very real possibility) that City take the full remaining points so that Chelsea can't win. Can't think of a more undeserving pack of wankers to win the title than Mourinho etc, they've contributed absolutely nothing all season in terms of actual enjoyment.
Everton have ****ed up up now and 4th belongs to the Arse, so I'm expecting a routine win for City at the weekend. Good win for Arsenal but that Newcastle team looks shite, how long for Pardew do you reckon?
