Premier League Discussion Thread 2013/14

Good game as well... pity it was a **** result. I daresay Liverpool have come the closest of anyone so far to taking points off City. Sterling had a perfectly good goal disallowed for offside thanks to a blind ****er in black, and poor Liverpool finshing was the only thing that stopped it going the other way. On this evidence I would say City will be champions come May, and Liverpool will be in the top 4 at least.

Totally right Rob. Nothing to be ashamed of in that game, two errors gave them their goals (Why do we always concede from corners/free-kicks?). They were good defending and did a good job on Suarez - a draw would've been a fair result. As we all know the league isn't fair and all the media will be playing up Davie Moyes and the Manc scum will be crowing off three straight league wins. On the plus side the blueshite lost and the spuds could only manage a draw.

So that's two away games over xmas against top four sides, two defeats, both 2-1, and both because of poor refereeing decisions. The off-side that wasn't against City and the penalty that he didn't give for a reason that I still don't understand why. And, yes, Sterling should still have scored that sitter.

I missed the City game, but from what I've heard and read, a draw would have been a fair result. I saw yesterday's game and whilst Chelsea were definitely the better side, had that penalty been given and had it been scored, 2-2 with 8 or so mins to go, you would suspect that'd end in a draw. That might have flattered Liverpool slightly, but since when have results been based on how a team plays or what they deserve? Look at Pool winning their last CL, or indeed Utd robbing Bayern in '99.

Gotta say though the glaring difference between the two clubs was the options available when the manager wanted to change things. Ivanovic gets injured, on comes Ashley 100 caps Cole. Lampard needs a rest at HT on comes Mikel.
Liverpool on the other hand had Ass-pass, who has looked as much a PL player as me, and then some wee lad called "Smith" who was making his PL debut.
Ok, Chelsea have a very rich owner who is happy to fire money at them, but if Liverpool have serious top four/CL ambitions they won't get far relying on players of the calibre of ass-pass and the unproven Smith. That's where their CL ambitions will suffer.

Agree with you there, the 2 discussions against Liverpool were disgusting. The off-side was truly one of the worst calls in premier league history. Just because of how basic it was. How both a lines-man and a referee can get such an obvious decision wrong is mind-boggling. I'd say sterling was at least 6ft on-side. Unbelievable. Liverpool were never gonna win the league but those decisions could well cost them a top 4 spot. To think they were top on christmas day and 3 days later they are 5th, just 2 points above Spurs who just fired their manager for having an awful season!! (if we'd ****ing beat W Brom we'd be on equal points!)

I have this argument with my mate who's a Liverpool fan and he won't hear it, Liverpool are massively punching above their weight for one obvious reason… Suarez. Them bringing on Ass-pass and some dude called Smith yesterday in arguably their most important game of the season really showed how far behind the other contenders they really are. **** it, it WAS their most important game of the season. It was their most important moment of the season! and they bring on "Smith"??? Chelsea left Mata on the bench!! City won without Aguero, Yaya, Negredo and Zabaletta!
I've enjoyed the Suarez show this year, the guy is immense and Liverpool have done well to keep him but i still don't think it's gonna be enough to have them finish in the top 3. Let alone win it. And 4th is gonna be a very tough contest between Pool, Spurs, Man Utd, Everton and maaaaybe Newcastle tho i see them dropping off due to having no genuine talent in the side.

Expect for Loic Remy

Yeah, i was exaggerating slightly, he is very good to be fair. And Cabaye is ok tho very overrated. They're a decent enough side with some decent players but they'll be 7th or 8th at best come May.

Have to agree with Pete on the Liverpool situation.

Utd fans are hoping for Top 4 finish for us, I agree that Newcastle will tail off, too inconsistent.

Tomorrows matches may throw up some results not expected.

I think there could be a draw on the cards for City, Arsenal should win, it would not surprise me to see Utd struggle with Spurs, I can't call that one

Carrick may make the difference though.

Agreed. We bossed the game from start to finish, although Ozil looked awful when he came on :|

Yep. I was under the impression that the recent changes to the offside rule where to stop this exact thing happening!

Yes the players were in an offside position but there weren't interfering with play their the benefit of the doubt to the attacking team?? :?

I aint a Geordie but I would be pissed at that decision!

I wouldn't call that rule recent. It's been around about 15 years.
Looks like it's gonna cost Newcastle at least a point.

Looked like a perfectly good goal to me. And it looks like it has cost Newcastle a point as well. 1-1 in injury time they would hardly be pushing up and leaving themselves exposed to allow Negredo to score that second.

Haven't seen the tackle on Nasri yet, was it THAT bad?

Ohh and for the record, that was NEVER a penalty Pool got at Stoke. "Soft" is an understatement. It reminded me of the kind of decisions Utd used to get routinely at OT under ****-face when they were losing.
There was also a hand ball by Sterling in the build up to the penalty, but given the ref's position I can understand why he missed it. Still bloody great game, and it's not often I can say that about any game with Stoke involved.
