Premier League Discussion Thread 2013/14

I was only teasing!

Spurs have a decent enough squad, i reckon you summed it up quite well. Though you forgot Lloris, who i think is a great keeper. Not sure i agree on Townsend, but then i don't get to see him very often.

I agree Lallana and Rodriguez would be great signings, but sadly they are both coming to Liverpool, along with Lionel Messi!

I've seen Townsend breeze past players with the kind of ease you only see in really top players. Problem is he can't shoot and he doesn't pass. If he can get those sorted he'll be top class. If not, he'll be another Lennon.
And yeah, i didn't think Lloris needed mentioning. Best keeper in the league. If we can keep him we need;t worry on that front.

4 Million for Lambert. Gotta say I'm pretty happy with that.

It's not a position Liverpool were particularly weak in, but they didn't have any meaningful cover for Suarez and Sturridge. Borini is mediocre and as for Ass-pass......he's not a footballer he's just a scrote!

Four million quid is a hell of a lot of money to pay someone to kick a ball around a field, but ignoring that, it's a bargain for a player who will provide cover for your main strikers. I can see him playing against the lesser sides in the PL to give S+S a rest and in the cup games etc.
He has a proven PL track record, 13 goals last season is more than RVP and not far off Hazard, so you don't need to worry about any "bedding in period". He's English, which helps with the that daft UEFA home grown players guff. Yet he seems to have avoided the ridiculous 'English premium' which sees any English players value get 40% added on to it just because of his nationality. Plus Saints play a style of football that is broadly similar to Liverpool's. They pass the ball around on the ground (take note Fat Sam, that's not only allowed, but actually quite effective) and counter attack quickly. Hopefully again he won't have any difficulty fitting in to Liverpool's system. He may also provide an element of 'plan B'. Something Pool were lacking last season. He's has bit more aerial threat than S+S, whilst not quite being the lumbering oaf that is Andy Carroll.
Ok, he's 32 (I think) so bog all re-sale value, but given he's being bought as cover and for what in PL terms is peanuts, that doesn't bother me.

Ohh and that also means he's now officially worth HALF a Bebe!

Fingers crossed he can persuade Lallana, Rodriguez and Shaw they wanna come to Anfield as well.

Buzzing with Lambert's signing. Bargain at that price. Soton are trying to stiff us on the Lallana fee (all because they want to get at least £20m for him AFTER they've paid the 25% to Bournemouth) - think he'll go to Spurs now.

Heard he's told them he wants to leave. But you're right, I can see them accepting a 30 million quid offer from Spuds and saying "there you go, you can go there."

I do wonder where he fits into the Spurs midfield, it's not like they are short of midfielders. Eriksen, Lennon, Pualinho, Lamela, Sandro, Capoue, Townsend, Dembele, Chadli, Sigurdsson and Betilab. That's just the eleven off the top of my head.

Gonna stick my neck out and say there are other more pressing areas for strengthening in the Spurs squad, like up front where they basically have no one! Adebyaor is amazing......when he's playing for a contract, but once it's signed he's a lazy ****, Soldado hasn't worked out and Harry Kane is too inexperienced at the minute, though he looks like he may well be worth keeping hold of. Then there's the entire defence (bar the keeper)!

Even at that another attacking midfielder is about the last thing they need, most of those players I listed are attack minded midfielders. Strikes a bit of Levy thinking "He's good, lets have him!"

Lambert id very shrewd signing, 4mil for an england international, with prem experience, he adds another dimension to the attack, especially for those games where teams park the bus.

Can't go wrong with a £4 million signing of international quality with PL experience.

Don't think he's the solution to replace Suarez though

**** off, Luxembourg are a GREAT team!

There's no shame in drawing with, or even losing to them at all! None. Not a single bit!

They beat us in Luxembourg and we drew at home to them in the WC Qualifiers

Fabregas to Chelsea? Why! Where is the logic in that? Has he actually seen them play! He's spent his career at two of the best passing sides in world football and now he's going to play for Mourinho and his anti football BS. Why? He hardly needs the money and I assume he had other offers as he's still young and hasn't exactly got **** since he left Arse.

As for Chelsea? WTF is the point in signing yet ANOTHER attacking midfielder. They already have Hazard, Oscar, Schurlle, Salah, Van Ginkle, Willian and Moses AND Marin. Add to that holding midfielders like Matic, Ramires and ehh Mikel. How many ****ing midfielders does one club need? Assuming they buy a striker, and the Costa deal looks to be all but done, they will play with, at most, five midfielders on an average week, two of whom will be holding. I don't think it's asking too much of the other EIGHT to alternate through out the season!

Ok, fat Frank is away but he hardly played and if they were really that worried about him going they should have offered him another contract, I suspect he'd have stuck around on a pay as you play deal. The guy loves chelsea FFS!

It just strikes me as Chelsea signing a player so other clubs cant have him. They did it with Willian and Salah. That's the ONLY logical reason i can see why they signed him. I still don't get why he went there though.

I was just saying this exact thing to someone on FB. Just don't see what he'll bring to Chelsea that they don't already have. He's good. Is he top-world class? No. Is he better than what they already have in those positions. No. Will he bring them, needed, added goal threat. Not really. Is he the strong defensive minded midfielder that they could do with to make up for all the head-less chicken method of midfielder they so enjoy. No. Is he as good as Mata. No Where Near. But, yeah, go on.

Kid in a sweet shop when is parents give him a tenner to spend."I'll have one of them and one of them and one them.........."

More Crazy stuff coming out of Elland Road again!

SKY SOURCES: Leeds expected to announce former Forest Green boss David Hockaday as manager tomorrow. More on #SSN

This is absolutely bonkers. he played hoof ball with Forest Green who have a budget of 1 million in the conference and he couldnt get to finish in the top ****in 8! and he is going to Leeds United? Eh? :?

He should fit in well. I have heard good things about him. He's the holding midfielder you have been crying out for for ehhh 5 years or so.
Give him a year, maybe six months to get used to the PL and you should have a quality player on your hands. Him and Mata are half of a very solid midfield. With RVP up front and the gay one in nets, you just need.............four defenders and two wide midfielders and you're laughing!

Also appears as though we are about to Sign Luke Shaw for 30 million after he completes a medical tomorrow.

What a Great day!

30 mil on a kid who had one good season hmmmmm

Yes its a lot of wonga but as I said before. We only have ourselves to blame on that front. A few poor transfer windows have left us desperate and other clubs know this are asking top dollar but we need to pay whatever

On paper it's a very good signing. He looked very solid last year and in the 90 mins he played for England. BUT, as Jabba says it is one season and he is 18 years old. A serious amount of money to spend on what is in essence "potential". If it comes off and he turns out to be as good as people think he could be, then that price is probably about right allowing for the fact he's 18.
However, look at Phil Jones and Chris Smalling and how they have regressed....

Big gamble for Utd.
