I can sympathise with the 'Utd get the rub if the green' theory. I do remember a lot of fortunate decisions going for them. Though everyone remembers the lucky/unlucky decisions that go against them a lot more than the ones that go for them. We all know the auld soft penalty at OT thing, and how many years in a row was it when no opposition team got a penalty there?
BUT, it is or was almost certainly overblown, and it has died off since Fergy left. Whether that's cos Utd aren't as good now or becuase they aren't dominating they don't pin teams in as much, build up as much pressure and create the opportunities for soft decisions to come their way.
Saying that, I can also sympathise with the theory that 'big teams' get the rub of the green against smaller teams. Again though, I don't know if that is an unconscious bias in the refs head or if it is the fact the big teams tend to dominate the small teams and create more chances etc.
I watched the WH Utd game yesteray and I do agree, the first was offside, though it was only a yard or so, so it is one of those where I give the linesman a little leeway. But on another week that could/should have been chalked off. The second was a pure fluke. One of those goals that only goes in when things are going against you. Had Utd been 3 up or top of the league that would have flown wide and never been thought of again.
Saying all that though, WH totally dominated and the scoreline was probably a fair reflection of the game.
Utd just look like a fraction of the team they should be. I'm not sure any if their squad could claim to be playing at even 70% of the level they are capabale of. DDG aside, and keepers are kinda different in that respect.
I don't think Jose can take ALL the blame, a lot of the problems precede his appointment. But as I have said before given the money he has spent at Utd he is doing no more than a bang average job. He hasn't even spent well, Pogba has never looked 'world class' in a Utd shirt. Sure he has a few great games but he also has a few more anonymous games. Sanchez has been dire, linderof, Baily, Mkhitaryan, all been underwhelming. Lukaku is a very good PL player but I'm still not convinced he is good enough for a team with serious CL ambitions. Can anyone name me a player who has improved during Jose's time at Utd? DDG possibly, but he was superb pre Jose and is still superb now, and keepers are different. Now that players are getting pissed off with him, and I'm not really sure Utd bought into his "them against us" guff (does 'them against us' work at a club like Utd that considers itself one of the biggest/best in the world?), i can only see one out come. The question is when does he go? Is he sacked or does he leave in the summer?
I won't miss him. He is a horrible horrible human being.
As far as replacements go. Two stand out contenders, zidane who is available and has the best CL record in history. Though he has also managed to finish second and third in three seasons in a two team league, so I don't actually know if he is a good manager or not. Let's be fair, any of us could manage Real to 3rd in La Liga.
Then there is Potchetino (spelling), sorry Edd. I think he would be the ideal fit for Utd. Assuming they take a long term view and give him money and a few years to sort the squad out.
Saying that the Utd Board have ****ed up the last three appointments. Given Jose looks like ending in failure (can 1 Europa League and a Worthless cup count as anything else? CL qualification should be a given at a club the size of Utd especially with their squad) so I would be expecting a few of them to do the decent thing and quit, or hand over that decision to someone who knows about football. There's more chance of me winning miss Universe though.
There is the same aura around OT now that Liverpool had during the end of Brendan's time and during the entirity of uncle Woy's time. The same aura Moyesy brought with him to OT. It's as if everyone and his dog know it isn't working out and it won't work out but no one wants to be the one to hammer the final nail in the coffin.
