Looks great Edd

Looks ace EddSo this is where I've got to with the collection display, even though these two book cases are twice as much storage as I had in my old office, I already don't have enough spaceI made a conscious decision that this room wasn't just going to be a museum, because as nice as that would be, I have to use it for work and also want to use it for gaming, both of which trump looking at toys. Still, half a book case isn't so bad, I just need to have a think about what I want in there. I am also toying with a smaller wall cabinet for my loose figures, but don't want to make the room look too cluttered, and really I only have one wall to play with as the back wall by the stairs gets battered by the sun all day due to the window in the roof.
Still I'm certainly not complaining, just need to decide what from my collection I want to display!

It'll be such a great space, we've finally had one of the basement rooms done out, shelving going in next week so can finally get things out to displayLast year we had baby #3, and while that is wonderful, it also meant that I lost my office in the house, as it had to become the new nursery (we tried to get the other two to share, no joy.) And that of course means I have lost my collection display as well, which is now nicely hidden behind various milk bottles and Calpol!
You may have noticed I have been selling some things from my collection recently. While the new lawnmower is great, the real reason is a renovation project that I have hinted at previously. We have an old stable next to the house, which quite honestly up to now has been more of a liability than a benefit, as it is falling down and the roof leaks so badly you can't store anything in it. So I have decided to take the plunge and turn it into my new office / collection room! I finally decided I would rather have a smaller collection on display than boxes of toys I never get to look at.
I thought rather than just post before and after photos at the end, it would be fun to document the process over the next few months. Here's what it looked like at the start:

It took us 18 months to get planning permission because it is a listed building. After various rejections and alterations, not to mention the estimated cost doubling, work finally started last week! Here's the groundworks finished inside, with a new concrete floor laid.

I'll update this post regularly with progress, and I look forward to posting a new collection limelight in the hopefully not too distant future![]()

Looks great, sorry to hear about the damp issues you had, but thankfully looks fixed now.And here's a few photos of how my office and the new upstairs bedroom look after the first year. Since the last photos I have put my loose collection on the wall, put up a couple of pictures, and played with the displays a bit. I still have some more ideas, but just haven't had the time or money to do them yet. But I have been using it almost daily to work in, which has been a real game changer from trying to work in the house with the kids running about!

Yes this is the dilemma I have, I would love more Star Wars on display but it takes up so much damn space! MOCs are bad, boxed vehicles are even worse. I will have to try and thin out the video games a bit some time.Needs some more SW though

Nice! A fellow physical media collector!Another minor disaster last week, one of the glass shelves in my cabinets gave way and caused a domino effect on the ones below! Luckily as each shelf was only an inch or two from the next there doesn't seem to be any damage. I was in too much of a panic to take a "before" photo, but I've now replaced all of the glass shelves with the original wooden ones which are much more secure.
