I think Edd summed it up well. Utd were the better side in the first half and for chunks of the second half but Spurs were more clinical and won. Not sure it was a 3-0 game, not that Spurs fans will care. Good to see Jose took it well. Wanker. I feel a tad sorry for Utd fans and players as all the talk of "Utd crisis" is gubbins. We're 3 games in and they didn't actually play that badly last night. Jose on the other hand deserves all the stick he gets. He can dish it one but as soon as things start to go against him he implodes and drags everyone down with him.
It was a strange old game both sides had decent chances and fluffed them and I don't actually think either team played THAT well or badly for that matter. Deli Ali was woeful all night. He was soooo laboured and slow in the final third, both with his passes and with that chance he ****ed up. How he wasn't subbed I don't know. As for Danny Rose, all I can say is that reminded me of Moreno. At one point he had the ball 5 yards from his goal line instead of hitting it as far away he could he picked out an unmarked Utd player 20 yards away. Cue 5 mins of incessant pressure. Then in the second half he clatters into (pogba, maybe) on the edge of the box and gives away a needless free kick. FFS he WANTS you to run into him, he's going nowhere, just hassle him. Spurs would do well to flog him to PSG or whoever else is interested cos he was piss poor.
Mind you Utd's players were no better. Phil Jones was Phil Jones. WHAT THE **** Herrera was doing for the second goal, I'll never know. Granted he may be a holding midfielder playing as a right sided CB (someone explain that to me!?) but it's not that difficult, all you do is take your position from your central CB. what you don't do is stand FIFTEEN YARDS behind him playing everyone onside. A ****ing school child knows that.
As for Linderof, dear god. That was shambolic. His attempted assist for a Spurs chance was bad but ehh where the **** was he for Spurs third goal!? Why was Dave Smalling left one on one with Moura (who played bloody well, have Spurs finally found someone who can play along side Harry Kane, or even allow Harry to be rested)? The other CB should be there to cover. Dave still should have stayed on his feet and not dived in but the blame lies with linderof for me. If he's a thirty million pound centre back I'm Miss World!
The fact Jose is the one who paid big bucks for him, and Baily, is probably half the reason the Board aren't keen to hand him even more money to spend on CB's. A good manager makes do with what he has and improves the players under him. Look at how Klopp, Poch, Conte and even Ranierri all improved various players in their time at their clubs. Jose has ALWAYS been a cheque book manager. Buying in new players (normally 27-32 year olds with limited resale value) and moving on before the hens come home to roost. His problem is none of the Utd players are falling for his usual 'them against us' gubbins. I dunno if it's cos it has lost its effectiveness after so much repetition, if it's cos it's Utd and the mentality is different or if it's just modern footballers being snow flakes. But Jose's plan A isn't working and he has no plan B.
I'm not sure if he'll last the season, Utd's nxt 5 games are pretty easy, Burnley, Watford, Wolves, WH and Newcastle, that takes them to mid October. Win three or four of them, draw one or two and suddenly someone else is in "crisis" and the media will move on. The problem is Utd look a team that is so much less than the sum of their parts. Sanchez doesn't look like a quarter of the player he was at Arsenal. Can they find some confidence from somewhere? Will Jose stop being a dick for long enough to let the media storm pass? His normal routine of drawing the media attention onto himself to save his players isn't going to work as HE is the problem. Either way I will be amazed if Jose is Utd boss at the start of next season.
Whoever comes in Ed Woodward needs to make sure he gets the appointment right, cos Moyes was a disaster (tho Fergy cops a lot of the blame there, and whatever morons agreed to let him pick his successor. One of the dumbest ideas I have ever heard), LVG was mediocre and Jose has certainly not taken the club forward. I'm not sure there has been any discernible change at Utd since Jose took over.
