When to start thinning down?

I can totally relate to that, I recently invited some friends round to my new office for some drinks and while a couple of them thought it was cool, the others were polite but clearly thought I was mad! I know that their own home offices are decorated in a much more 'mature' way, leather sofas and nice paintings etc, it did make me think am I trying to cling on to my childhood too much and at this age would I actually get more enjoyment from a 'grown up' space? The jury is still out.
I have a number of collections, all vintage and had a bit of an exercise, pack them all up, put in boxes and see how I felt, didnt look in the boxes for about 6 months, didnt miss them so now getting rid other than some things that will increase in value because they were issued 2020 onwards, give it 30 years and those that are young today without a disposable income will have, a diposable income and will go looking, just like we have done ourselves, I wouldnt say that I now enjoy my adult space, but there is less clutter haha

Screw what others think. I have no issues/embarrassment at all with collecting. Never have. Anyone who has said/hinted at something negative about it in the past, has been very quickly told where to go! 🖕

On the other side of it though I am also very careful of not forcing it on others. Besides my display room, I have no Star Wars items on display anywhere in the house. That was always my aim and I have always stuck with it.

It has always been my plan to hold on to this stuff until it no longer brings me any joy. If that means I have it right up until the end, then great! It would mean something has brought me joy for the majority of my life.

I’m in the “sod what others think” clan,
I’m am what I am,
If ridicule or sideway glances ensue,
Hey, what s that to you,
Think for a moment, your an individual with your own thing,
Not a sheep, where to others choices you cling,
For those that scoff or are ungracious,
Maybe they are a little jealous,
Hold on to your passions and enjoy what they bring,
You are you with your own song to sing.

Don’t grow up, it’s a trap!

Ha - yes - off the original topic - but I get a mix of reactions to folks that get a glimpse of my office.
Most folks I work with a of a 'nerdish' disposition (comic book creators or software developers) and sizeable chunks of video meetings end up with me showing things they keep asking about.
I do find there is a clear male/female divide - in that, no woman has ever expressed anything but utter repulsion for the room (my wife included) and they never look at me the same way again after seeing what is behind that door...
For none work folks it is a mix - you can see some men genuinely enjoy it as it takes them back to their youth - but the others clearly consider themselves too grown up and look down on it all.

I really do notice the way people look at me once they know what my hobby is...

Agree with @Michael Sith I don’t care what people think. In my 20’s I really cared what people thought, in my 30’s I worried what people thought. Now I’m in my 40’s I really don’t care and recently I’ve realised knowone really cares!
