PL 2017-2018 Thread

I agree that Spurs are not the best team in the league. But I don't recall Portsmouth, Wigan or Arsenal being anywhere near the best teams in the league when they all won the FA Cup. Wether you like Spurs or not, I don't think anybody could deny the amount of bad luck they suffer. The odds of a top six team losing 8 FA Cup semis in a row must be thousands to one, you'd think a pub team could pull it out of the bag just once with enough tries.

Only saw the last 20 mins and I was expecting Spurs to have Utd pinned in their own half but it was just very tame. Disappointing, as I'd much rather Spurs (or Saints, but they have no chance) win the FAC than the two most hateful clubs in the league.

Sadly, Spurs only really showed what they can do in the first half, when they were the better team overall. They attacked United, passed the ball well, and created several great chances and made United look ordinary and very beatable, especially in the first 25 minutes or so. United's first goal came about (like so many Spurs concede) due to a defensive error (this time by Dembele, who is usually better than that) that gifted United the ball in a dangerous position. But apart from that, Spurs didn't really look troubled. Both sides played well, but Spurs created the better and greater number of first half chances.

However, in the second half all of Tottenham's recent failings came back to haunt them. Their previous attacking drive disappeared, they reverted to possession-football, with all the side-to-side, pass to backwards, side-to-side, pass it backwards bollocks which is simply infuriating to watch, not least because, unsurprisingly, it creates precious few chances. I know Pochettino's style of play has yielded success, but it's often not pretty to watch, and if the opposition sits back and defends (which United largely did, albeit with some decent counter-attacking breaks which were mostly squandered), it can be very difficult to break through unless someone breaks cover and moves the ball forward quickly and crosses it into the box occasionally.

I love Spurs, but we got exactly what we deserved based on our second half performance, which was lacklustre. And until the players can find it within themselves to attack throughout an entire game, when they are not only far more threatening and likely to score, but also concede very few, then they risk coming undone in games like this where the opposition possesses quality players that can defend and counter.

Utd vs chelsea, that's an FAC Final I won't bother watching. Two hateful clubs who both play pretty ugly football. I want both teams to lose.

Yeah that's them through, they will get an away goal and that will be game over for Roma. This could be the worst season ever for Man Utd fans, City win the league, Liverpool win the Eurapean Cup and we loose to Chelsea in the FA Cup final.

Could have been, literally done and dusted, if Lovern hadn't forgotten that to head the ball you need to jump somewhere ****ing near it.
I still think 5-2 should be more than enough, but stranger things have happened.

Saying all that, Liverpool are now down to 11 fit (decent) players and Clyne.

Lallana, Can, and Matip are out for the season, Ox looked to have done his cruciate last nite. Gomez is carrying a knock as well. Look at that bench, Solanke, Ings, winjandin (who came on for ox), Clyne, Mingers and the abomination whose name I won't even mention. An injury on Saturday, in the second leg, or in any of the remaining games and the final could be a very very different kettle of fish, assuming Liverpool get there.

Finally Spurs have won something - first team to go single use plastic free!

With Chelsea just two points behind us by tomorrow I will not be happy if we lose a CL spot thanks to spending time on this very worthwhile but terribly timed campaign

What a game last night! I bet the Liverpool fans hearts were racing, when that late penalty was awarded I could just see Roma scoring one more if they'd only had one more minute.

I wasn't that nervous, I wouldn't say I was relaxed the whole way through it, but once Pool has scored two you knew even they would have to go some to feck that away.

They did try, Lovern clearing the ball into Milner's face, TAA getting caught out and then Karius palming a save straight to Dzeko (literally ANYWHERE else, bar into his own goal, would have been preferable). Pool did get a bit of luck, Karius should have conceded a penalty. Although, genuine question, given Dzeko was flagged for offside (wrongly) the second he got the ball could VAR have been used? The ref didn't have a decision to make on the penalty as Dzeko had been flagged and it's a bit inconsistent to then penalise a player for a decision he makes after a flag has gone up.
I thought the handball against TAA was one of them, yes his hands are up, yes it hits them, yes it prob is an "unnatural position" but he's 4 yards away and yer man wellies it. Some times you get them, some times you don't.
I do think the one they got right at the end was an utter joke. Klaven is 2-3 yards away, with his arms by his side and yer man hits it into him. He literally can't do anything, he has ZERO chance to react. None. How that is a foul I do not know. If the ref gave it he needs to speak to his 27th official behind the goal, if the 27th official gave it he needs to get his eyes and his understanding of the rules of the game checked. That's just not a penalty. Not even close.
Similar to the one Roma got in the first leg for the handball on Milner. Both soft for me, which I guess cancels out the two they didn't get. Maybe things do even themselves out.

Can't say I'm looking forward to the final. We all know what will happen. Pool will play Madrid off the park for 90 mins. Ramos will get away with multiple counts of GBH, Navas will make 3 or 4 world class saves that he knows FA about and in stoppage time someone will hit a shot that will smack off Ronaldo's ass and fly into the net to hand the trophy to Real. At which point ballbag will run off like he single handedly saved the entire world, conveniently forgetting he had 3 touches all game and ****ed them all up. Ohh and my tv will go out the window.
It's a cert to happen. I'd put money on it, if I was a gambling man.

Ohh and massive game on Sunday, Chelsea Pool.

Pool aren't guaranteed CL footy yet, and have struggled after both the City second leg and the first leg of the semi. Add to that Chelsea knowing they need to win to keep any hope they have alive. Normally, I would expect Jurgen to rest a few players with an eye on the final, but I suspect it will be a full strength side, maybe with Clyne or Gomes in, that faces Chelsea. A draw is enough to all but guarantee CL footy (unless there is a 20 goal swing in GD in the remaining games), and while Jurgen doesn't do playing for a draw I can't see him playing the reserves. Get a result here and the reserves can play Brighton and the first team can rest up. Lose on Sunday and the first team will probably have to play Brighton to ensure CL and that means no rest before the final. Given pool have only 3 fit midfielders and a 3 man forward line whose back up options are ehhh pish, that's not ideal. Especially given their high tempo style and the fact Madrid have a tonne of experience and will most probably be able to rest before the final.

Knowing Liverpool, they will lose on Sunday and insist on doing things the hard way.

Yes I was going to mention this weekends game, probably the biggest left this season. I think a draw would suit Spurs best but it's one of those games where any result is good for us at it takes something away from our two closest rivals. As usual it's up to Spurs to **** up 3rd/4th.

You're right, Ronaldo will score "the winner" in the last minute without even realising it and claim all the glory.

That reminds me, an Arsenal fan pointed out an interesting and entirely possible league outcome to me yesterday:

1) Man City
2) Man Utd
3) Chelsea
4) Tottenham
5) Liverpool
6) Arsenal

Liverpool win CL, Arsenal win EL, both get a CL spot alongside Chelsea, City and Utd next season, but Spurs lose their place. It's happened to us before, and it would not surprise me one bit if it happened again. So we REALLY need third.

I don't watch that much soccer only the big games and tournaments when they're on. But I can actually visualise Ronaldo standing crying again after losing to Liverpool looking into the crowd feeling sorry for himself. A Final is always different animal and Liverpool have a strong history in European tournaments which is a big boost no matter who takes the field.

I can't see Arsenal getting through tonight. I hope they do, but Atleti are too street wise and too nasty to let Arsenal's pretty football distract them. I could see Arsenal losing by 2 or 3.

True, but Real's history and pedigree is a class above Liverpool's. It's scary good. They are on for their third CL in a row and this is their 4th final in 5 years.
This is Liverpool's second CL campaign in about 10 years.

Ohh and last time Brendan decided to rest his three best players for an away trip to Madrid as he wanted to keep them fresh for the league game on Saturday to maximise their chances of qualifying for the following season's CL.
If anyone can explain that logic to me I'm all ears.

Had I been John Henry (Liverpool's owner) or the Chairman of the Board I would have sacked Rodgers on the spot. ****ING RETARD

Arsenal will go out tonight don't worry about that and as for the other big european tournament I refuse to discuss until further notice.

Something else I saw today, and one to cheer Edd up, Spurs have comprehensively humped both teams in this season's CL final.
