PL 2017-2018 Thread

I think most fans would take a couple of seasons of mid-season if it meant a solid future. I'd take pretty much any sensible pair of hands for next year to steady the ship and teach defence (and not Henry, Vieira or Rodgers!).

Arsenal would be better of with anyone in charge who as moved into the 21rst century. Two seasons in a row now with not even getting close to a top four spot, ok he plays a good brand of football but he hasn't produced a team with any sort of character or back bone for over a decade. That's a reflection of his signings.

The guy changed English football forever, but it's time to let go.

Wenger is going!

Good luck with whoever comes along next...

They must have a plan... As in a replacement
There is no way a club that size makes an announcement on a friday morning less than 6 weeks before the end of the season without a plan in place... is there... surely...

Just ten days after Pardew gets the boot from WBA, SURELY that's not coincidence!?

We will announce our new manger on........

transfer deadline day

I think the replacement is already decided. Perhaps that's why he's been kept on a year or 2 too long trying to sort out contract issues.
TBH he should have gone 5 years ago.
Top 6 is a good position for a club to be in with the squad we have but we should be challenging for top 3 consistently.

I think Rafa's a great manager but I'm not sure how well he would fit Arsenal.

Ancelotti would probably be my pick. Assuming Pardew doesn't get it, of course.

Same as above, only man for the job. IMO

Genuinely interested why you think that when Arsenal have no players in the PFA team of the year:

Sorry but right now Arsenal are not under achieving, they are exactly where they should be. And as I said a few posts earlier history counts for nothing, a title 13 years ago doesn't mean you're owed one now. If you don't have the players or the manager, you're not going to compete, simple as that.

I've never cared for team of the year, players award all that rubbish. Totally meaningless.
There can only be 11 players in the team of the year and over the last 13 years we have had players in there - RvP. So what? Won nothing then.

Regular CL is nice but trophies are important. 3 x FA Cup in recent seasons cannot be ignored even if some of the games were against so called lesser opposition. We did deserve to beat Chelsea in the Final.

Arsenal should be top 3 because of the infrastructure. The coaching, scouting network etc. Years of development. The current squad is not top 5.

The table doesn't lie - we are not a mid-table club as you stated above. 6th is not mid table out of 20.

We are the 6th best team in the league this season and this is an underachievement for the amount of investment that has been going on.

We are financially stable as are the teams who win leagues in most of the European leagues. That is why 6th is an underachievement and we should be challenging top 3. The current squad is not good enough for top 3 so we finish 6th.

Gotta say, I'm with Edd. Though unlike him, I don't hate Arsenal. I think 6th is exactly how good they are right now.
How many Arsenal players would get in the starting line up of any of the top 5? Abamuyang (spelling) maybe, Bellerin possibly if he could remember how to play like he did last year, ditto Ramsey. Ozil probably. The rest, nah.

Arsenal may have a great set up behind the scenes and the Emirates is a great stadium but they have a squad stuffed with over paid dead wood. From memory they have a wage bill massively higher than Spurs and yet I know which squad I would pick.

Ohh yeah, and I agree team of the year is a bit daft. FFS there no one in that team who could win the ball in midfield. It's a fantasy football league team, not a serious team. I think it's also voted for in January, which is ****ing stupid.

I'm not trying to troll here, but all the things you mention are in the past. Who was the last great youngster Arsenal brought through? Or the last top player they signed? It's all ancient history. You're lucky to be 6th based on the amount Arsenal have actually invested this season:

It's not ancient history. The league doesn't lie we are 6th best team. Burnley 7th. If Burnley were better they'd be 6th.

Arsenal have a few decent players and a poor squad. Money is a by-product of TV revenue. If we signed a player for £250 million are we now a team worthy of top 3. Absolutely not.

The years of investment have not paid off but they should have done. We should be top 3 contenders.

Wilshere coming through was not ancient history. Is he good enough? No, not at the moment. Flashes in a pan.

Putting it even more simply spending the equivalent of £200 million on the front four should have better results than battling. Burnley for 6th place

It will be interesting to see what a different manger does with the squad, no doubt a lot of overpaid averageness but also some good players trying to get out (if played in the right position)

The squad is set up for a back 5 but Wenger sees that as a failure to his way of thinking so always drops it

8 semi final defeats in a row spanning 27 years. That seems statistically impossible. It doesn't matter how good (or bad) you are, you need a bit of luck to win trophies and Spurs just never get it.
