I must admit, thought it was a bit meh on first viewing and didn't really get all the hype. Watched it again with a mate who was a big fan and did a complete 360. There were so many things I had missed first time and I hadn't appreciated the performances at all. Really love it now. Think it's John Goodman's best film. The scattering of Donnie's ashes... :lol:

Just sat through Gardians of the Galaxy 2...should have listened to the earlier review! :roll:
Oh dear, some funny moments, incredible visually but what a thin story line.
But on a plus side my wife thoroughly enjoyed it, poss something to do we Chris Pratt, oh dear.. :?

I thought it was ok in the cinema, but it was one of the options on some of my flights and i wasnt even remotely tempted to watch it again which kinda speaks for itself.

Just finished watching Champs, I found it a very intertaining documentary one of the best that I've watched in a while.
I have a great love of sports so maybe that's why I enjoyed it so much. 3 boxer's basically it tells the early life they lived and what motivated them to become the best boxers in the world. And what it took to get them to the top. It also highlights the darker side of the money workings around boxing and how unforgiving the sport can be.
After watching that it showed me a different side to Tyson and the pain the guy has to live with everyday. And how much he has changed from being the aggressive unstoppable machine while he was boxing in his early years. He definitely had the potential with the right guidance to make the top 10 best heavyweight boxers of all time. But sadly with being mixed with the wrong people it helped release his dark side very quickly. Which resulted in him never showing the world his true potential in a boxing ring.
Anyone who enjoys boxing, sports or stories from rags to riches. I think you would enjoy giving it a go for a couple of hrs.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind had a special 40th anniversary showing last night at Cineworld at Silverburn, near Glasgow.... Was great to finally see it on the big screen, with great sound, after having only ever seen it on TV, over the years

The wife and I are on a bit of a horror film kick at the moment; I'm not into gory films, more your supernatural/psychological/scary stuff. We've watched some crap films recently, but we also watched 'Under the Shadow'. It's set in post-revolution 1980s Iran and has subtitles (I know that puts some people off!!) and I can't recommend it enough. It's really well made and acted, gives an insight into life in Iran at that time (which is an eye opener in itself) and is chilling for a number of reasons.

Never knew drumming was so intense. The tutor is a psychopath! Awesome film.

I'm not a fan of gangster films other than the occasional ironic pop one like Pulp Fiction and I thought this was OK duo I'm hardly the best guy to comment. I'm fed up with the whole 'jukebox soundtrack' thing, though. I find it at a bit easy so I've got a bit of a bee in my arse about that.

Ok, its Tom Cruise, so immediately you might think... move along, move along...
but, no, pause, stop stop, sit back and enjoy!
This was a great 'based on a true story' movie that exposes/highlights the huge part that the US government agencies played in pretty much every Drug / Gun trafficking racket and installed dictators through the 1970s, 80s and 90s across Central and South America as well as the Middle East.
All told with some humour, some brilliant guest appearances by 4 presidents in both film and lookie likie footage.
Seriously, not a great film but a very enjoyable and watchable movie compared to most that seem to come and go.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Load of crap. So over the top. Really enjoyed the first one, but they just turned everything up to 10 for this one. Some parts were like Austin Powers. The volume was crazy- sat with hands over my ears for most of it.

Can't wait for Bladerunner- getting amazing reviews 8)

Yeah looking forward to it, expecting to be disappointed though. Hollywood has a great habit of doing that with films. The abominations that are the prequels, the last 2 Matrix films, Prometheus and Alien Covenant, even the Hobbit was a let down. Hollywood disappoint more than they please.

The first Kingsman I really enjoyed I wasn't expecting to like it so much, I ain't ever bothering with the new one though cus sequels are usually **** and the reviews prove this one is.

I heard apparently Harrison Ford read the script for Bladerunner and said it's the best script he's ever read, that kinda hyped me up a little bit and the trailer looks brilliant too, can't wait!

Watched Straight Outta Compton and Patriots Day.

Would recommend both of them.

Especially Patriots Day- don't get put off by the title. Its a lot more horrific like United 93 and not heavy of the flag waving.

War/murder/terrorism- SUCKS.

Straight Outta Compton is a good biopic of the NWA. The actors are amazing.

Totally agree on Straight Outta Compton... great film and I think it would appeal to folk that weren't or aren't even into Hip Hop too
Patriots Day is on my list, not too sure how I'll cope with it personally though, feels awfully close to home in too many ways

I would note that I'm not a massive fan of the original film, in the past I enjoyed it, I've seen it a couple of times, but I never classed it a masterpiece and despite my artistic sensibilities never fell head over heals in love with the aesthetic either.

That said...
This sequel was good, really good... I wont gush over it but in the context of the above it would be unfair to actual fans of the first one for me to do so, but I was actually pretty blown away with how good it was. I usually struggle with any re-boot or update and more especially remakes but this thing was nothing to fear. In being critical I would have to say the only poor bits were involving Harrison Ford; he simply needs to retire, the overly long stares and breathlessness (that we saw in TFA too) are all a bit too formulaic and sad to see.
Anyway, recommended for those that wouldn't consider themselves to be super fans, maybe a super fan can give their perspective soon...

I wasn't a massive fan of the original either. There were some absolutely incredible bits in it but parts of it were very meh.

I've just seen 2049 and TBH I'm not sure what I thought. It's definitely not a "bad" film and if you liked the original then you should like this. They have been very faithful to the original. It looks and feels like a bladerunner sequel and NOT a modern reboot/rehash were they have a habit of making everything bright and sparkly and adding in a million new technological additions etc. I'm looking at you Star Trek and the SW prequels.
Without giving away any plot details, the film is paced very much like the original and thus very differently to modern films. Maybe that's why i'm not entirely sure what I think of it.

I won't say any more until a few more people have seem it. But if you were thinking of going I would definitely suggest it, it's well worth seeing. The bird in it would get it all day long :wink:

Seconded for Straight Outta Compton. The guy who played Dr Dre played the lead character in the new 24 reboot. I'm no hip hop fan but did enjoy this movie. It's not entirely accurate though - it has been criticised by exaggerating some events, barely touching on others like domestic violence, and ignoring some of the roles of the lesser members in the movie.

I went to see Blade Runner 2049 last night. Went on my own, took my slippers and cushion.. obviously, long film. Been waiting for this and I thought it was superb. I love the first one and never wanted another or a sequel but I was pleasantly surprised. It looked great, sounded great, was cleverly shot, has a good story and the slow pace was quite refreshing and in keeping with the original. Need to see it again but on first viewing loved it. And I want his jacket 8)

BLADE RUNNER 2049

Simply put, brilliant. Big fan of the original, read the books etc...director (Denis Villeneuve), cinematographer (Roger Deakins) Et al did a great job with this sequel...the sound is stunning...and some of the visuals are the best I have ever seen...a film for the cinema, patently.

Quick note re: Deckard (H-Ford) WARNING, SPOILER COMING!

His character has lived for decades in a highly toxic area of wasteland so the breathing for me, was a very smart touch. Again, Blade Runner is fantastic with the use of sound...this was but one example.

Hmm... not too sure how to review this one as it certainly wasn't sh*t, but it wasn't great either! Maybe its just a bit Meh...
Conceptually it made sense and the acting was good, the cinematography was great as well. The whole first half was pretty decent and the second not great at all... the biggest issue for me was the CGI. Maybe one for the DVD market if you've got a decent sized TV...

Finally got round to watching Wonder Woman last night... loved it! Definitely one of the best super hero movies IMHO. Only bettered by The Dark Knight and Batman Begins in DC films. Only slight let down was some of the CGI was a little ropey in places. Gal Gadot is gorgeous :shock:
