Historic find to be disclosed on 12 back Facebook group tomorrow

Great find and a great story. But looks like there is more than one after edd added the link to another one

The SWCA link Edd posted is the write up of the same item Darrell posted in the 12 back group.

Yep, this is the first and only complete preproduction sample mailer for the rocket firing Fett that has been found. There is nothing very special about the box (which is the same as production boxes for the static rocket Fett mailer) or the baggy (although it is slightly different than the production one, and resembles an engineering pilot baggy for the Fett mailer someone else has), but the whole is definitely worth more than the sum of its parts here. Having the complete sample mailer - box, baggy, TWO rockets as intended to be sent with the rocket Fett, and the Fett - is the newsworthy item. First one found complete, and the provenance is rock solid.

According to the SWCA article, there was one mention of it coming with 2 rockets:

So either this is provenance, or greatly helped the "former employee" put his scam together :)

As I said above, Edd, this is the exact write up of the piece that was just found; it wasn't an earlier example. Further, the two rockets being intended to come with the Fett was already a little known fact as it appeared in the advertisement for the Rocket Fett mailer that appeared in the 1979 Toy Fair catalog:

To be fair though, very few people remembered this ad, although referring back to it now that Darrell's mailer has surfaced has helped confirm that since it came with two rockets that it was in fact a complete preproduction sample mailer. Pretty neat.

Any idea how many of these "only one " rocket firing BF actually exist now?

Plenty. About 30 or 40 L slots and maybe 15 J slots I think.

I wouldn't disagree on the L's, but the high range on the J's is closer to 25. This is also a case where the context and aspects of completeness and condition play a larger factor on those numbers. I would say the ratio tightens closer if we're talking "complete" examples based on the number of J-Slot's (8 rib) I've seen with missiles, and how many L's (4 rib) are missing them.

When Gus and Duncan did a presentation at Farthest From 2, they put the number at around 85.

I have no idea
