Premier League 24/25 Thread

You all know my opinion of the League Cup and I would never want my own team to lose, especially a final (if they get there) but I wouldn't mind losing to Spuds or Newcastle as I know it'll actually mean a lot to their fans. The Geordie's in particular.
If not Liverpool, I'm quite happy to see either of them win it.

Nothing against Arsenal but you are up there in contention for the PL, Newcastle haven't won anything since the 1600's and Spuds last trophy was, what 20yrs ago? Granted they have played in a CL final since.
They'll appreciate it more than City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Utd fans would. And probably than Pool fans will too.

I missed the first fifteen minutes but ehhh that was very comfortable for Newcastle. That Odegaard chance (on possibly his wrong foot) was the 'sliding doors' moment. That goes in and Arsenal win easily. Two minutes later Newcastle scored and Arsenal looked lost
We were lucky not to be a goal down already, but our failure to convert dominance to goals in that opening period cost us dearly. Three losses to them this season and we play them in the penultimate match of the season. Doesn't bode well for the run in, even if your lot decide they want to drop a few points.

To my horror Newcastle looked great last night, I thought it was going to be 90 minutes of fake injuries and cowering by the corner flag, fair play to them!

Have you seen Pool's run in?
Spurs (H), Chelsea (A), Arsenal (H), Brighton (A) and Palace at Anfield.

They'll save that for the final against either your lot or mine.

Yeah, we'll see. As Weasel said it would have been nice to see a couple of underdogs in a final for once, its been ages since a Hull, Portsmouth or Wigan have made it to one. Apparently trophies are the only measure of success so it's pretty pointless if City, Liverpool and Chelsea win them all.

My god did anybody see Harry's last minute header, 5 players about 2 miles off
Side and the linesman gave it. The only reason I can think of is Man Utd are that bad the officials did everything they could to avoid another 30 minutes of whatever you want to call it, crab football?

Can anyone explain why they don't use VAR at the grounds that have it installed? Makes absolutely zero sense! Fair enough at smaller stadiums but Old Trafford!?

VAR will only be in use for the 5th round of the FA Cup onwards. FA statement reads: "This decision ensures that there is a consistent refereeing approach for all clubs taking part in the same stage of the competition."

Never mind that, it wasn't a bloody free kick in the first place. The Leicester boy had his arm tucked in to his body and by his side. Zero chance that's a free kick. I can't find a video or a still, but I remember swearing at the TV in real time when they showed the replay. The ref only gave it when the crowd shouted for it. Woeful officiating all round.

@edd_jedi the FA didn't want a situation similar to what happened in the League cup whereby some games had VAR and some didn't. It led to inconsistency where some goals/cards were disallowed in one game where in another they wouldn't have been.
I can see their logic. They are somewhat damned either way. The simplest solution would be for them to reach into their pockets and pay for all teams in the 4th round to have it, but obviously that's not happening.

I love how they make out VAR is a huge financial and administritive burden, yet your average Joe watching a dodgy Arabic stream on their laptop still gets more decision right. You don't need bloody VAR, the video replays on the TV are perfectly good in 99% of cases!

I agree it wasn't a free kick @weasel and thought straight away the ref reacted to the appeal from Man Utd players, I don't even think he could see the ball. The commentary on 5 live said Leicester still need to defend the free kick better though! How can you defend better than catching 5 players offside?! Stupid!

Bit of a shock yesterday, Plymouth deserve a bit of glory, that said Liverpool would probably have picked the FA Cup to go out of if they had too.

Agreed on both.
I only saw the first half of the game but it was dire and Pool dropped straight down to Plymouth's level. Fair ****s to them. It is genuinely nice to see a smaller side cause an upset, and yeah, if I had to pick a game for Pool to lose it would be in the FAC early doors.
A few Pool squad players played themselves out of contention/the club and some if the kids showed they really aren't ready, yet.
The fact Kelleher had the joint most shots on target, with one from a corner in the 98th minute says it all.

Good luck to Plymouth.

Oh and if Forest lose on Tuesday that's the top four in the PL, as it stands now, all out.
Cue City walking it sigh.

And what a surprise, City get the weakest side left in competition. At the Etihad. It got boring five years ago.

They should do a scientific study on Man City's FA Cup draws over the last decade. The probability of the teams they've drawn must be up there with winning the Euro millions lottery.

Havertz done for the season. @weasel congratulations on the title.

That's a massive blow.............for Liverpool! and a huge boost for Arsenal. They'll have to play someone up front who knows how to score now. Doris the Tea Lady will do more in 15 odd games than Havertz has in 2 seasons.

PS, DAFUQ was that City? Bending over for that shower? You can be damned sure 'peak City' will turn up when Pool go to the Etihad in 11 days.
