You all know my opinion of the League Cup and I would never want my own team to lose, especially a final (if they get there) but I wouldn't mind losing to Spuds or Newcastle as I know it'll actually mean a lot to their fans. The Geordie's in particular.
If not Liverpool, I'm quite happy to see either of them win it.

Nothing against Arsenal but you are up there in contention for the PL, Newcastle haven't won anything since the 1600's and Spuds last trophy was, what 20yrs ago? Granted they have played in a CL final since.
They'll appreciate it more than City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Utd fans would. And probably than Pool fans will too.

I missed the first fifteen minutes but ehhh that was very comfortable for Newcastle. That Odegaard chance (on possibly his wrong foot) was the 'sliding doors' moment. That goes in and Arsenal win easily. Two minutes later Newcastle scored and Arsenal looked lost
We were lucky not to be a goal down already, but our failure to convert dominance to goals in that opening period cost us dearly. Three losses to them this season and we play them in the penultimate match of the season. Doesn't bode well for the run in, even if your lot decide they want to drop a few points.

To my horror Newcastle looked great last night, I thought it was going to be 90 minutes of fake injuries and cowering by the corner flag, fair play to them!

Have you seen Pool's run in?
Spurs (H), Chelsea (A), Arsenal (H), Brighton (A) and Palace at Anfield.

Predictable but disappointing. Another trophy for Liverpool it is then.

Yeah, we'll see. As Weasel said it would have been nice to see a couple of underdogs in a final for once, its been ages since a Hull, Portsmouth or Wigan have made it to one. Apparently trophies are the only measure of success so it's pretty pointless if City, Liverpool and Chelsea win them all.

My god did anybody see Harry's last minute header, 5 players about 2 miles off
Side and the linesman gave it. The only reason I can think of is Man Utd are that bad the officials did everything they could to avoid another 30 minutes of whatever you want to call it, crab football?

Can anyone explain why they don't use VAR at the grounds that have it installed? Makes absolutely zero sense! Fair enough at smaller stadiums but Old Trafford!?

VAR will only be in use for the 5th round of the FA Cup onwards. FA statement reads: "This decision ensures that there is a consistent refereeing approach for all clubs taking part in the same stage of the competition."

Never mind that, it wasn't a bloody free kick in the first place. The Leicester boy had his arm tucked in to his body and by his side. Zero chance that's a free kick. I can't find a video or a still, but I remember swearing at the TV in real time when they showed the replay. The ref only gave it when the crowd shouted for it. Woeful officiating all round.

@edd_jedi the FA didn't want a situation similar to what happened in the League cup whereby some games had VAR and some didn't. It led to inconsistency where some goals/cards were disallowed in one game where in another they wouldn't have been.
I can see their logic. They are somewhat damned either way. The simplest solution would be for them to reach into their pockets and pay for all teams in the 4th round to have it, but obviously that's not happening.

I love how they make out VAR is a huge financial and administritive burden, yet your average Joe watching a dodgy Arabic stream on their laptop still gets more decision right. You don't need bloody VAR, the video replays on the TV are perfectly good in 99% of cases!

I agree it wasn't a free kick @weasel and thought straight away the ref reacted to the appeal from Man Utd players, I don't even think he could see the ball. The commentary on 5 live said Leicester still need to defend the free kick better though! How can you defend better than catching 5 players offside?! Stupid!

Bit of a shock yesterday, Plymouth deserve a bit of glory, that said Liverpool would probably have picked the FA Cup to go out of if they had too.

Agreed on both.
I only saw the first half of the game but it was dire and Pool dropped straight down to Plymouth's level. Fair ***** to them. It is genuinely nice to see a smaller side cause an upset, and yeah, if I had to pick a game for Pool to lose it would be in the FAC early doors.
A few Pool squad players played themselves out of contention/the club and some if the kids showed they really aren't ready, yet.
The fact Kelleher had the joint most shots on target, with one from a corner in the 98th minute says it all.

Good luck to Plymouth.

Oh and if Forest lose on Tuesday that's the top four in the PL, as it stands now, all out.
Cue City walking it sigh.

They should do a scientific study on Man City's FA Cup draws over the last decade. The probability of the teams they've drawn must be up there with winning the Euro millions lottery.

Havertz done for the season. @weasel congratulations on the title.

That's a massive blow.............for Liverpool! and a huge boost for Arsenal. They'll have to play someone up front who knows how to score now. Doris the Tea Lady will do more in 15 odd games than Havertz has in 2 seasons.

PS, DAFUQ was that City? Bending over for that shower? You can be damned sure 'peak City' will turn up when Pool go to the Etihad in 11 days.

**** ME!!!!!!!🤬🤬🤬

Sigh, what a way to drop two points. Fair ***** to Everton they deserved a point and had Pool held on that would have been a superb result.
That was not a good game, it was like a throwback to 1990's football, albeit with 2020's standard tackles. Moyesy playing two big men up front and hitting them early at every given opportunity (cough hoofball) meant it was just a glorified game of head tennis at times. Still, no arguments Everton would have been hard done by if they left empty handed.

That equaliser does grate through. There was what looks very much like a foul on Salah on the edge of Everton's box 30 seconds before the goal, the fact it was borderline offside (the lines were needed) and there was a push on Konate that is right in the grey area of 'it affects him but us it enough for a foul?' all go against Liverpool.
But the bit that really gets me, and I was shouting this at the time, the ref signalled for 5 minutes of stoppage time and Everton scored in the 98th minute. Now, I know they can and do add extra time for stoppages in ET but ehh Pool weren't exactly going "full Newcastle/Jose." Granted they weren't rushing throw ins etc, but ehh who would in their place? There was a clash of heads between two Everton boys but that didn't take two and a half minutes. Where the **** Michael Oliver found that time from I will never know.
But then it's Michael Oliver. The guy who thought Lewis Skelly (spelling) deserved a red for that foul 70 yards from his own goal, the man who thought Jeremy Doku kicking Alexis MacAllister in the chest was fair enough and not a foul, the man who thought Jordan Pickford going in scissors style on VVD knee when the ball was on the ground and two yards away, wasn't a foul, the man who serially ruins games week in week out.

Dacoure goading the Liverpool fans a full time was ******* stupid. Given how the game ended to run over and do that, he deserves more than a 1 game ban. Curtis Jones was daft to react, albeit it is understandable and Rio Ferdinand even said he did the same, still daft! The ****** who threw the bottle on needs a life ban from football. He can claim provocation, but there is no need or excuse for that. Bye bye ********. Slot and his coach seemed to get reds for telling Michael Oliver a few home truths, that obviously can't be allowed cos we all know referees are perfect and never make mistakes and even if they do (ehh like last night) and you point it out, the FA/PL will shaft YOU and protect the incompetent ref. And Oliver was not good last night, a lot of very strange calls, both ways, players booked for tackles that 2 minutes later weren't even fouls. Advantage played and when the player lost the ball seconds later, ie NO advantage came, he played on. All fans and players want is consistency. Normally they moan about inconsistency between refs and how incidents in one game are given and not given in another. Last night Michael Oliver was giving stuff one minute and then seconds later waving play on for an arguably more blatant foul. The only consistent thing about him is how ***** he is

Still, keeps it interesting for the neutral.

The "foul" that lead to Everton's 1st

Slot's Red card. Clearly he said something, but I have seen many a manager approach a ref in much more aggressive ways and not get sent off. Not that that entitles Slot to be ****.

The non foul on Salah. Am I being a dick or is that not a foul all day long? doesn't get the ball, isn't even close to getting it, and clearly does get Salah's legs. Michael Oliver is 10 feet away with an unimpeded view.

the Konate non foul, you probably need to try and find a video of it as still an be misleading, and the coming together between two everton players with ehhh 13 seconds left. Obviously that necessitated 2 extra minutes. The Salah non foul above was 30 seconds before Everton scored and both were in the time Michael Oliver allowed after the stoppage for the coming together.....which happened with 13 seconds left 🤷‍♂️

None of that is meant as a 'woe is me' BS post and I hope I ain't coming across as one of those Liverpool fans. It's more to highlight just how rubbish Michael Oliver is. Arsenal fans will already know. And he was bad both ways, Pool got a soft free that stopped an Everton break. Beto would have been 1 on 1 from just inside his own half with VVD coming across to cover. I can't find a video of that, but I'm highlighting it to show he ****** things up both ways and it wasn't just Pool getting stinkers.

Arsenal should have gone for Rashford that really would have messed their season up.

Seriously though they should have gone all out for Watkins.

Shocking from Liverpool last night they should have a 20 point deduction for that, they would still win the league. 😉

Slot should have said to Oliver your a ref not the lead role in a Christmas pantomime. But I guess he said something worse.

@edd_jedi must be a bit happier tonight.
That was a piss poor game though.

Still, Wolves played Liverpool off the ******* park for 45 minutes. Pool didn't have a shot in the second half, and that tells a very accurate reflection of the half.
Jota should have been booked for the dive, why didn't he just stay on his feet and score or roll it left?
Konate could have gone but I don't think the two fouls warranted a red, not that should come in to it. On another week he goes.

And how nice of City to find form…..right before Liverpool go to the Etihad 🙄

On this point I've heard pool have over delivered vs performance quite a bit. I can't comment as to be honest I rarely get time to watch MOTD, never mind whole matches (beyond Arsenal)

I asked on an Arsenal forum today should we be more worried about saying on your coattails, or actually maintaining what gap we have behind us. Still, at least our newest 6 has turned his number upside down.

15 WEEKS since Spurs last won at home apparently! it's been a horrible run, hopefully the only way is up now. Saying that I didn't enjoy most of the game, while the first half was pretty open with decent chances at both ends, I thought we were incredibly lucky to hang on in the second half, United could easily have won that if not for some poor finishing. The Spurs defence is just so easy to slice through.

I would happily get battered by City in a couple of weeks if we beat Ipswich next week. Knowing Spurs it will be the other way round.

I feel you, MOTD is a young man's game, sod staying up til midnight with three kids
