Premier League 23/24 Thread

Well beaten today. vs West Ham we at least created a lot. vs Fulham today we looked tired and created not a fat lot. I wonder if this is Artetas unwillingness to rest players coming to a head.

Fair enough Nelson is not as good as Saka, but if he was good enough to give a new contract to then you have to use him.

Didn't see the game as was on the same time as Spurs Bournemouth, but I'm sorry there really is no manager more deluded than Arteta. Quote: "We have to do what we did in the previous 19 games," he told Sky Sports after the loss in their 20th Premier League game of the season."

You've only won one of your last 5 games Mikel, don't talk like this is the only game you've lost all season 😂

Anyway, happy new year everyone! 3 points separating first and fifth, still all to play for until City decide to start playing again.

Rooney sacked by Birmingham, that's got to go down as one of the worst appointments ever surely, taking them from 6th to 20th in 80 days!

Who saw that coming? Oh yeah, ANYONE who knew anything about football. Sack a manager doing well to replace him with and ex footballer who has a, being generous, mediocre record as a manager. Surely a recipe for success! 🙄

I see poor Eddie Howe is feeling hard done by after last night's game. Fair enough, the first pen was soft and the second was a joke (dafuq didn't Jota just roll it into the empty net? He had an easier shot than whoever was going to take the pen, and how did VAR think there was enough for a pen there?) . But, ehhh, Eddie, Salah missed the first pen and the second was with 4 mins to go and you still lost by two goals.
Liverpool had the highest XG ever record in PL games, 7.3. They started recording it in 2010-11, thirteen years ago, that's roughly 5000 games. Pool also had 34 shots, the joint most in the PL this year. Your team WEREN'T hard done by Eddie, they were ****ing humped senseless for 90mins. It SHOULD have been a 5/6/7 goal winning margin. 4-2 flattered your lot. And before he gurns about injuries, Newcastle were missing Pope, Trippier, Tonali (not injured, just dumb), and Wilson. Possibly Murphy as well, but is he really a starter? Pool have Matip, Robertson, Thiago, Bajectic, and Tsimikas injured, lost Sobozlai half way through and had Jota and McAllister just back from injuries. Broadly similar levels of unavailability I'd say.

Stop clutching at straws Eddie, no side has been played off the park as much as your boys were in 13 years of PL footy. There are Porn stars who take less of a pounding in a ten man gangbang

I thought the same about the Jota penalty, why not just shoot. I thought it was going to be overturned for a dive, so yes lucky on that one point but it would have made zero difference to the result

I'd forgotten about Regulion, not bad to have him back with the amount of injuries we've got, surprised he wasn't called back sooner! I haven't really followed how he's been for United, but I always thought he was half decent for us.

I think he's done okay at Utd. Not amazing but not bad. Given how poor Utd are, that may or may not, be a compliment.

Rumours of Pool being interested in Mbappe. In other news, I'm interested in Megan Fox…..and have as much chance of nailing her as Pool do of signing Mbappe

Just saw that Jota 'penalty'. Good grief- should've definitely been booked for diving, what the hell is VAR for? That was most certainly clear and obvious.

Our game tonight was terrible. Quite even until the last 30 mins, when Brighton were all over us. Horrible to watch, but a decent point.

Regulion was ok I thought, he only made 7 starts pretty much half that time he was the only fit left back. So ETH clearly doesn't like him.

I see Lampard is in the running for the Birmingham job! 😂😂😂

SURELY not? Surely they have learnt the lesson, Wazza took them from 6th to 20th in 15 games. That's as brutal a lesson as you get. If they employ fat Frank they deserve the relegation that will inevitably follow.

Yup. Summed up well. I still cant get my head round falling over when you are 3 yards out and have an open net, just so you can get a free shot from 12 yards with a keeper to beat. The Double jeopardy rule was scrapped so it's not like he was trying to get the keeper sent off, not that a penalty like that would warrant a red anyway. Just bizarre, and another **** up by VAR

Just saw an interesting stat - West Ham are 18 points better off this season without Rice, and Arsenal are 10 points worse with him. I'm sure there's more to it than one player, but I think a lot of Hammers were gutted to lose him

That's a bit of a nothing stat really - this season is heading for an 88-90 point champion imo, the top four are all behind Arsenal and City from last season.

Did Moyesy's Everton not do that? Flit between being pretty good one year to fighting to stay up the next, and repeat?

Last season was a combination of things really. We had early injuries, some very bad luck in early games and struggled a little with Thurs/Sun footie, mainly due to lack of strength in depth. We got in a rut of poor form in the Prem, that took a while to break free from.

Re: Rice, I definitely think we are stronger without him, although that sounds weird! We bought JWP, Alvarez and Kudus with the money and all 3 have been fantastic. As brilliant as Rice was for us, those 3 combined together have more of an impact on games.

I think Arsenal are most definitely better with him. Worth every penny. He's a World class player IMHO and has been playing at that level for the last couple of seasons, although I think he went under the radar a lot for non-Hammers. I think there was a fair bit of ignorance, where he was concerned. Last season my two nephews (both Gooners) were adamant that Partay was a far superior player and that Rice would only be a bench player for a top team. Interestingly, Rice said a few weeks back that he had been playing at his current level with WH, but just didn't get the recognition, like he is now with Arsenal.

There's one thing Thomas Partay is definitely better than Declan Rice at, but thankfully in this country and ALL civilised countries it's illegal and you do jail time for it. #Rapist

I didn't see the game but I heard Liverpool were utterly dominant, especially in the first half, and Arsenal were lucky to even get nil! 😉
