Vectis Mega sale July 19th and 20th

Thank Christ I never won a DSC. I remember someone on here sold their AFA 80 for about £700 just before that box of 24 went on sale. That was the best move he will ever make :D

The last of those selling on eBay just went for around £494 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STAR-WARS...MQuhzhw2cmGhJAlSgdNTY%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

Of course I wouldn't mind one to add to my Palitoy run, but right now with the uncertainty on numbers, I'll not want to pay more than a couple of hundred.

Some killer pieces in that auction.going to be some pretty exciting auctions.will be interesting to see what the prices go for the rare pieces.

If you get some high rollers fighting it out over the fetts it could be carnage.

Where do all these dsc keep appearing from, did they overproduce them and ex emloyees took home surplus. At this rate of a steady flow it will surely bring the cost of em down.

Engage Vectis publicity overdrive. This auction won't be cheap.

Boom! It made the Independant! Mental.

This is exactly what they are meant to do. They sell the items as high as possible, get good commission, get good publicity and get the next man to finally crack and sell.

It doesn't do the economy or market any good though. The rare pieces will go high, that's for sure, but the run of the mill stuff will go high as well as people get drawn in to the auction and overpay or you get newbies in that believe they are buying their kids a future and don't bother to do some research.

Oh, I should add, I am not knocking vectis. They are doing an amazing job for their customer in this case with the publicity. I have seen more on Facebook than ever. They are really using the advertising streams to their best.

The best thing they could do would be to draw up the catalogue way before the auction and respond well before the auction with condition reports.

Some of these items will go into 5 figures. The least they could do would be to get into gear and show everybody what is coming up - officially, not by allowing a few people to take some photos of boxes - people can then have time to liquidate pieces if needed, move money around or just, old fashioned, save up.

They get great exposure and are nice people but are shown up somewhat by the way the big auction houses do things. Before they start promoting they need catalogues and condition reports ready - and well before the auction.

It was on the local news today on the radio saying that this auction is expected to achieve half a million, don't know if they are exaggerating but that's a lot of bread!

From what Ive seen so far I'd be amazed if it makes that much - I'd actually be pretty amazed if it makes half that. Who knows though - maybe they have more rarities that have been shown so far.

My personal opinion is that Vectis have been very very lucky - they have cornered the market whilst still having a pretty poor website, and un-reliable internet bidding system and lets be honest, some dubious item descriptions in the past. Packaging and time taken to post out have issues as well yet still they managed to pick up some amazing lots

Having Nick involved with them on this one will make a lot of difference for sure - and lets be honest - once the media machine gets going after this sale (500,000GBP estimate) then they are only going to get more and more goodies sent their way

Fair points Max but the bulk of Vectis auctions don't have Star Wars selling for £15k and have a lot of lower end toys. You should watch one of the remaining Beeches auctions. The last one was over by midday

I'd imagine a Sotheby's had high end items every sale.

They could do one off big marketing campaigns for the likes of this auction. But, and admittedly from only a few visits, I get the impression timeframes are too short as there is a real element of churn to get each auction catalogued and out the door.

This auction could get more money but the bread and butter ones would suffer.

I guess a description which states "Fair to Mint" isn't good enough nowadays...? :D :D :D
