Thought about quitting...

 No! I know I'm new around here and my opinions don't count for much, but Jez, you're a collecting celebrity to me. Love you on the podcast and hearing your story at Anaheim. Keep your chin up and your LXW in your pocket, and you'll take on anything. You'll be missed more than you know and we'll be here when you're ready to return. :D

One thing I have to say about this thread is that it at least shows none of us are alone with this! How strange that this seems a rather popular sentiment at the minute and yet it's a movie release year!

Hi Jez, take it from someone who took a 6 year break, mojo's come and go.
Since you are directly responsible for dragging my ass back into collecting again, we are not a tag team so no exit allowed, a break yes but no exit! Take it down a few gears over the summer and see how you feel come September.

Adios

That's just what I was thinking? It's good to hear it's just a natural phase of a collectors life and many have felt like this and happily bounced back after a few weeks, months or years but it is weird so many of us are "dipping" on the run up to the new film. Sure the hype must have something to do with it.

Pretty sure I'm on a downer with all these new collectors/investors suddenly bumping the prices up which means I'm wrestling with the joy of a new film against not being able to pick up items I could have bought before. Actually it's more because my wee Star Wars hobby that I enjoyed in my chill time seems to have exploded and SW is everywhere.

Was going to try and give myself a collecting boost, re-connect with my collection by taking stuff down, dusting it, maybe move some stuff around but after reading what others have said I'm not going to worry and just wait for the fire to return.

Cheers Jez for posting - feel better myself just for reading what others have said, and like so many others have said this forum is the place to enjoy SW, build friendships and a sense of community.

For most of us SW and especially the toys are a link to the magic times and feelings of growing up in the 70s and 80s, just sometimes we are so busy being grown ups we forget.

Right I've got a day off so I'm away to take some random pictures of my toys :D

Funny thing is Jez, i was thinking about both you and Grant the other day. Havent seen you on in weeks :D Take your time mate, sometimes a break is whats needed.

I dip in and out, as others have said. Sometimes I'm just far too busy to be doing any Star Wars stuff. Surely we all are aren't we? Don't think you're alone mate. Work, family etc and other interests. I'm not just into Star Wars, I'm sure no-one else just is. I have to devote some time to other things and I like getting outside. Also collecting can be hugely frustrating, as frustrating as it is rewarding. For me it's a bit like being a musician(which I am) or a writer constantly striving for the perfect song or chapter but never being satisfied with what you produce. We love our collections but we always want more, or better, or rarer. I think that's part of collector mentality. But it's never healthy to only have one thing in your life or become obsessed. It's good to have a breather

Jez, you cannot quit. You were one of the one's who kept me going through the tough time's lately.

I find all the time I think about jacking it in and selling up. As you said it seems to be part and parcel of the collecting hobby. With regard to ebay, I think we all have to get used to the fact that its not as good as it used to be with regard to quality of items and sellers. There are still a load of decent guys and gals on there but it does seem to be worse than when I first started.

Like a few others have said, taking a break can clear the head and bring you back to the forum full of energy and enthusiasm. I regularly have a quick read but don't post.

You will never leave buddy, we wont let you.

No need to quit, collecting and forums go hand in hand and if u dont collect u dont forum then you lose 2 forms of happiness, i belong to many fb groups and many forums but i dont really post much in any, i still enjoy a good read though, i am not actively collecting right now but still check in and enjoy peoples new items here and on FB

Theres celebration london to look forward to and the new film, you can enjoy part time till then mate as after that things will be full on again and the fun will return

15 mins is plenty of time to catch up on things

as everyone has said we all go though these stages Jez, i myself have not been on in a while due to work commitments and we all know how busy you are so keep smiling keep collecting and 15 minutes a day is great :D
