I hated The Darkness.

Then was hungover and forced to watch them open Glastonbury 2003. They were outstanding. I could smell it. Was a fan after that.

Seen it again today, and the Super Leia and Luke dying scenes still piss me off but its not as bad as I first though. Still think that the storyline is iffy and Finn is a waste of space but...

I don't really mind the Luke dying bit, first viewing I didn't really believe he died, or was in denial. Second time I cried, realising my childhood hero was dead. :lol:

The super Leia bit does piss me off and it has to be bad to annoy me. The thing is for me Vader was given a suit in the concept art for episode 4 because George Lucas said Vader was going to need a suit for being exposed to the vacuum of space. In Episode 3 Palpetine almost flys into space but holds on which is a bit more realistic.

However if you google what would happen if the human body was exposed to the vacuum of space, you will realise that the Leia Mary Popins scene isn't that unrealistic, certainly more realistic than hyper space anyway. Most people probably know this, but I just presumed the human body would explode in space, which is not the case.

Thing is as well if you love the original films like we all do, then IMO you can't really get pissed of with anything that seems unrealistic in the other films, the force is basically a get out of jail card and can be used as a reason for making pretty much anything possible in the Star Wars universe.

Well you can get pissed off, but I can't. :lol:

I take the point about it not being made for us auld farts and maybe some of us would never like it because we wanted XYZ and that was never going to be made. But for me, putting aside the crap jokes and Leia's space walk AND that unnecessary casino bit, the thing that bugs me is the first order spend how long just blindly following the rebel ships???
I'm ignoring the fact that they are now faster than star destroyers but weren't previously.
The First Order have hundreds of star destroyers CALL SOME MORE IN!!!!! They chase them for how many hours, surely someone other ship could have jumped in on the other side of the rebels and trapped them. Then they wuda had them boxed in and they cuda blown the **** out of them. They have been trying to wipe them out for a while now, i'm fairly sure a few other ships could put down their laundry run/stop patrolling random sectors and come along and helped finish off the rebels once and for all.
I just can't see any reason why they wouldn't call in more ships. That kinda ruins the plausibility (yes, I know it's Sci fi film, but you know the context I mean it in) of the main plot point.

Plus if the flight deck was destroyed with all the fighters were where the transports kept :roll:

Watching it online (streaming) I must say it is a nice sci-fi movie. It is more for the next generation and there are some hints for us old farts... :wink: But overall it is ok and entertaining and I even liked the casino scenes (oh dear...). But it gave me some kind of feeling, as if it wasn't movie worthy. If this was going to be some kind of Rebels stuff it is really ok to me, but not as a so called blockbuster. It's ok and even better than TFA, so I am mildly pleased. Just let it go, Luke would say, and that is what I am going to do. Let it be and accept that dinosaurs once ruled the earth, but now it is time that a younger generation can enjoy these movies. I look back at the movies from my childhood and even more appreciate them because they happened at that time. Not spending a penny on modern stuff, it is not for me. TLJ is entertainment, no more, no less...

I've had a thought, perhaps Snoke wanted to trag out the blowing up of the resistance so he could show Rey that their was no point fighting anymore. Scraping the barrel I know, but it's similar to what The Emperor does to Luke in ROTJ.

General Hux didn't seem that bothered about rushing to blow them up, maybe he had orders from the top. :?

Did think it was funny how every time you saw the scene of the rebel ships getting blown up two or three got taken out in the space of a couple seconds, but their always seemed to be plenty in the next scene 5 minutes later. They should have all gone in about 30 seconds.

Well done Mr.Tie for giving it a chance and being honest.

I had the same feeling about those rebel ships blown up and still coming But it is entertainment and I understand the meaning of building up some suspense. So again, being honest (thanks mate! - really appreciate ) and just let it happen. Enjoy moments like the music as the falcon flies through the planet blowing up some Tie Fighters and Luke enjoying the twin suns. That's worth a lot to me...

One thing's for sure I don't think their has been a Star Wars film that has devided opinion like this. At the moment it's looking like a marmite film.

I know that's The Darkness, but the point is when something like that really divides people iv'e found to the people who love it it's like a genius work of art.

The darkness (and the light) are things that really annoy me about the new films.

I found Leia talking about the light one of the more irritating things about TLJ. It is this trilogy's version of 'younglings'

To be honest, I think even the people who really do like TLJ aren't liking it for the 'crawl across the galaxy' plot, and I've not heard anyone at all, anywhere, say they enjoyed the casino subplot (why oh why wasn't Lando the slicer there ).

They're liking it in spite of those things I reckon (me included). It's a slow burner for sure, but after the extremely safe, unoriginal film we got with TFA I think it's a daring change of direction. I just wish they'd got some of the plot straightened out and the running time trimmed down.

Haha yes, those rebel ships are like the troopers on Scarif. They're getting blown up right, left and centre but there are always loads more to get blown up in the next scene.

The Leia in space scene was written by someone who belongs in a mental hospital.

It had a horrible middle section where the audience was supposed to pretend to be invested in Finn and Rose going on a mission that basically meant nothing to the overall mission/battle in the end, with the biggest pay off being, they freed some animals?? This was only put into the film to give Finn something to do which meant nothing in the end anyways.


Reys parentage was the biggest hoax ive ever seen.


How can Snoke fire someone around the room just by looking at them, connect Rey and Kylo between Galaxys, read their thoughts, literally feel someones feelings... but the guy cant hear a rusty old metal lightsaber rattling like a drain pipe on his metal chair RIGHT NEXT TO HIM!?!?

She looked like an extra from the casino part of the film and they thought no, we can use her as the Hero in Part of the Film instead of Ackbar so we can push more women as hero's FEMINIST PROPAGANDA.. She was in the Film for 5 minutes and it was 5 minutes too long.

The Disney Star Wars has no direction, no vision, no heart, crap jokes, crap acting'. and is just poor movie making.



I should have learned my lesson after The Force Awakens which compared to the Last Jedi is a work of Art!


I refuse to pay for anything Disney Star Wars ever again.


Im done and am now happy to walk away from it all as its now for me just one big joke!


It's actually damaging to watch these new star wars films as they are now starting to affect the way you watch and see the originals movies.

I have been thinking about this film more and more and have come to the conclusion that the problem with Star Wars fans these days is Star Wars fans themselves.

The first three films spanned 6 years. The first was a stand-alone movie. Lucas couldn't have known wether he was going to get to make any more. Esb was dark, and a lead up to the return of the Jedi, with a lot of backstory thrown in. There were fans of the film, but normal people. Mostly children, but many adults as well. But just normal people. Lucas could do whatever he wanted, because they were his. Kill off tarkin, bring in the emperor. No one gave a **** about who he was or his backstory. It was fine. He was just a new character. Rotj. Rehash the Death Star. That's ok because people just wanted more.

Then came the fan. 40 years of fandom, and analysing over and over what has been seen. The dawn of the eu, the continuation of the universe all building up to where we are now.

But these hardcore fans are no longer willing to just accept snoke as a character, nor Rey as a force user with no background. Everything needs explaining. Everything must fit in with where they believe it should fit in and it is not possible anymore to just make up a story.

Have we become so inflexible based on the fact that we have been living in the past 40 years that we are unable to open our minds to new ideas and perhaps let this thing go in a direction we didn't expect it to, or does it have to follow whatever format we previously decided it should.

All you guys with kids saying him much they loved it. These are the same eyes we experienced the ot with.

This film is by far my favourite outside of the ot. My views on the ot will never change because it was an intrinsic part of my childhood. The films represent a time of my life for me, just as certain places and music does. But this is the best thing I have seen based in the Star Wars universe since. I now can't wait for 9.

I was going to share my thoughts, but this pretty much sums up my feelings. It was a brilliant movie. Did it have it's stupid moments of course, did the OT, of course.

I'm agreeing with both of the above. Just watched it today and really enjoyed it, had tears of excitement in my eyes on a few occasions throughout. There are definitely a few dodgy moments along the way (we really did have no need for Leia acting like Superman), but on the whole I found it enjoyable and thought RJ kicked JJ's ass with telling a somewhat more original spin on a Star Wars story. It is what it is and it's never going to be the OT again for us older lot but I'm thinking this will be the younger audiences OT one day, way more so than the prequels will ever be.

One last thing is reading through the comments there's a lot of hate/negativity out there for DJ but who's to say that's the last we'll see of him. I actually thought he was an interesting character and am hoping to see him again in the next one (it might happen!).

Their music is pure genius, they have to be the most underrated band on the planet by far, I really believe the timing of them coming around during a time of pop music and boy bands badly hurt them, I think if they came out with the same music in the 70's or 80's then more people would have paid attention and they could have been considered one of the worlds greatest legendary bands in mainstream eyes, like Queen or Kiss. After their first album came out I was positive they were the next big thing in rock and a breath of fresh air but to my surprise not many people 'got them'.

I've seen them live twice at the NEC and stood at the very front of the stage both times and it was the greatest thing iv'e heard and seen in my life, a bit campy which is fun and works perfectly, but at the same time hardcore rock and just absolute perfection and the way the songs are written and the lyrics are genius.

Anyway this is a whole different type of darkness and a topic for a whole different thread. :lol:

Absolutely. Great character. Like a dark Han Solo. He didn't see good vs. evil or light vs. dark he simply saw opportunity and profit.

There were a handful of thought provoking points in the film but the one I enjoyed the most was the part with the holographic display table demonstrating who owned the ship they'd just stolen. Oooooh, bad guy: an arms dealer to the First Order. What a bastard. Oh, and the Resistance, too. The realisation the universe was not filled simply with First Order, Resistance or (remains of) the Republic, but with people who carried on their lives regardless of who was in control and who actually had an interest in these idealists carrying on fighting and dying. Without their sacrifice for their respective causes there'd be no market for more TIE fighters and X-Wings. Brilliant.

It was a long film but it's much easier to watch longer films at home, and im sure some fan editor will make an extended version. Some of the scenes sound intriguing, apparently Rey goes through a Jedi trial with Luke on the island - rumours that its an action sequence with some sort of sea monster.
