Question about original trilogy. Might be a stupid one.

Right this may be a ridiculous question, but I was wondering if there is any way to watch the original trilogy without any of the added shite. I havent seen anything like the original since the early 90s and that was on vhs and I think even that had been messed with a bit then. And I was about five so dont really remember it.
I just wondered has there ever been a dvd release of the original theatrical releases? I would love to see them. Someone told me there was a dvd which had the originals and the tampered about ones but the original was from a laserdisc and the quality was poor?

I have the un-****ed-with (or theatrical version) DVDs from 2006, not sure if it was the only DVD release before George starting messing.

The problem is it's a poor print with stereo sound. I don't know if there are any high-def theatrical cuts out there.

You can download the 'despecialised' version of ANH and maybe ESB now which is a 720p version which is supposed to be excellent.

Or you could get hold of the laser-disc versions, they're on the net as DVDs

Just do what I do -

Put on the Blu Rays and as soon as the extra shite bits start I close my eyes and scream "George you c*nt" until they finish

Star wars revisited by adywan is excellent as he's taken the blue rays and stripped out all of the cap.
He also went the extra mile and cleaned up a lot of the special effects, colour correction and dialogue.
For me this is the best possible version out there tight now.
If anyone knows him here can they please get him to hurry up with Empire. :D

Hahahaha! I like this option. You could get an old working VHS player and watch an original video...old skool. I'd love to do that, even if the picture is ****. Trouble is, you prob couldn't connect the bastard to a modern TV!

Agreed. What he did with Star Wars was genius

Harmy's despecialised editions are quality. ANH is on version 2.5, ESB is v 2.0 and ROTJ is v 1.0 with v 2.0 being worked on. They are available in 1080p and are well worth getting.

I prefer Harmy's despecialized editions if I want to watch it in HD. Otherwise I watch the laser disc transfers done for the 2006 DVD release.
If I'm really keen for 80s retro I warm up the VHS player and watch the 1982 / 1984 & 1986 original VHS releases in all their low resolution glory :)

I have the same set as phreatobite and didn't even notice it had the theatrical versions until I decided to watch ANH last night!

Yeah, I have the theatrical versions on DVD too. So much better than swearing at the TV. It's this version:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Star-Wars-Original-Trilogy-DVD-6-Disc-Box-Set-Inc-Theatrical-Versions-R2-PAL-/331554918346?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4d32368fca

I should just add that I am in no way affiliated with the seller of that DVD, it was just quicker to post an ebay link rather than uploading a photo. I'm pretty sure you can find it cheaper from other sellers.

The version I would kill to get hold of would be the original ITV premiere, complete with 80's adverts. That's the version I grew up with, but the VHS got recorded over :( when I got proper shop bought versions for my birthday.

Hell yeah!

Anyone got a rip of this?

Wow- great video. Loads of memories flowing back there of being at my grandparents house watching that after turkey whilst the adults talked in the room next door. Thanks for sharing.

I've got the Star Wars theatrical version did - only problem is my blue ray player shrinks the screen on that version - very annoying

I bought mine from Woolworths back in the day when they gave out free Vintage style Vaders

Wish I'd bought the lot now

 Wow, if you have a means to copy it, digitally or analogue, I'd trade some loosies for a copy :D
