Did they not finish top 4? It was CL then, but would be now.

We finished 5th in the end - Liverpool on 69. Leeds 68 and us on 66 - but we were in the running right up to the end

....and then went down the following season and haven't been up since :(

watching homes under the hammer just and it has a new presenter... coventry legend? dion dublin! i had to double take

I thought Ancelotti was getting the City job. But, you're right, all very convenient.
Let's be fair, ANYONE could do a better job than Pelligrini is doing at the minute

Absolutely. Given the money they have spent, they should be shoe ins every year for a CL spot.
Mind you if they mis out, Pool are next in line for the CL spot and ehh that didn't go so well this year.

Takes a decent squad or luck with injuries to cope with the prem and CL but without CL money it's hard to do that

That's the main reason I'm not bothered about the CL, no British club has a hope of winning it at the moment, Chelsea are the only serious contenders. What's the point of being in a competition you know you're not going to win!

I think this about CL every year, can't see Man Utd winning it so what's the point in being in it. Just servicing Glaziers debt.

I diden't think it this season.

I spose you have to be in it to win it tho and the more your club play's in it the better chance they have.

Liverpool and Chelsea were both lucky to win the CL (taking nothing from either of them for getting to the final) - its a cup competition and there's always an outside chance. I'd rather Arsenal were in it than not - just wish they wouldn't throw it away every year, it actually looks quite winnable this year...

I think Man Utd were lucky to win it as well, pens against Chelsea and 2 goals in injury time against Buyern Munich. That's the thing for me when an English side wins it, you can never say their head and shoulders abover the rest of European sides. But like you say it's a Cup competition and if you are in it year after year and your a descent side, eventually you will at least get to the final.

I'm not taking anything away from the English sides that have won it in the last 15 or so years, their's been seasons when English sides probably should have won it but diden't. I spose 2008 was the one year you could say England dominated the competition, 3 sides in the last 4 and 2 in the final.

For Utd to win it in 99 in injury time, was testament to the ethos of how they played ....right till the whistle, and showed total commitment to win it, and let's not forget that this was part of a Treble, an unbelievable achievement.

The more English teams that get into CL the better, for the fans it's great to watch your team in CL action and the more they at there, the more chance of winning.

Absolutely that team never gave up the amount of times we were behind and won late was no fluke. That said Buyern did hit the post and cross bar and totally controlled the game for 90 minutes.

Aye, take nothing away from Utd's victory in '99, fantastic achievement. But still a huge slice of luck involved. Two stoppage time goals don't happen very often, and Bayern missing enough chances to win two games during normal time. I think even the most one eyed Utd fan (of which there millions) would admit they were lucky. Doesn't mean they didn't deserve it, just means they were lucky.

Great sellers apparently
