Premier League Discussion Thread Season 2014-15

So a 3-0 win over Cambridge. Thankfully Preston dealt with Sheffield Uniited so lookin forward to a first meeting with PNE in over 40 years.

Yeah should be a good game, thought UTD played well tonight high tempo. Wilson needs to start more often for me plenty of pace.

I thought that was pretty much the definition of "routine win". United weren't great, but didn't need to be. No disrespect to Cambridge, but you would expect a club of the size of Utd to beat them comfortably at home, and that's exactly what happened. Cambridge didn't disgrace themselves at all, far from it, plenty of PL sides will put up less fight at OT this season. I just wouldn't read anything into that performance from a Utd point of view.

I see Harry Redknapp's quit. BIZARRE timing. Can someone explain how he thinks two days AFTER the transfer window closes is the best time to leave? I doubt it's a spur of the moment decision so why go now when your replacement can't get anyone in to help? He says he has quit because of an upcoming knee replacement op. As we all know the NHS have a habit of scheduling operations with no warning at all cos they aren't busy so he obviously wouldn't have known it was coming!
If I was Tony Fernandes I'd be livid. Not only has be bought a squad full of over paid has beens, and done his best to relegate them for a second time, but he's now jumped ship at about the worst possible time. Cheers 'arry!

Ohh and Edd/Pete, thoughts on Adebayor's non move?

Well, i personally couldn't care less if he stays or goes. He's completely useless. All that this window proves is that Spurs are well aware he's completely useless but weren't even able to give him away! So why no signings? For the 3rd window running?? We are in desperate need of a striker. We have ONE. Jesus christ. One!!?
We are a club standing still. No ambition whatsoever. We will finish 5th or 6th the same as we do every single year and apparently that is absolutely good enough for David Levy.
Oh well.

Didn't Harry say the main reason is an operation?

Adebayor has this unfortunate mentality many other Spurs players share that he is owed a place in the team. He's brilliant when he can be bothered, but that is once a season. Surely Harry Kane must have made some of the other over-paid wasters realise that it's hard work that wins trophies and awards, not pay checks. I think footballers need to be on similar pay structures to salesmen, modest base salaries and very good performance related bonuses. And let's face it, even the base salaries would be far beyond what most would consider reasonable so I don't see how the could contest it. But all the FA seems to care about is having the most expensive/prestigious league so it'll never happen.

Yeah, a knee operation.

That would definitely stop him managing a football club

Just admit it Harry, you're doing a **** job, you've cost Tony a fortune, bought a load of shite and are finally doing the decent thing. Albeit at the worst possible time for your replacement.

Ps, if QPR appoint Sherwood, they deserve to go down.

Was he really that bad? Still pretty sure he has done the best on paper out of the last four or five Spurs managers, which isn't bad for a top ten team (I won't say top 5 because it will ruffle feathers  ) so I don't see the problem with him going to a Championship/PL relegation zone club personally, it's not exactly a step up.

While he is no Jose Mourinho I think he did a pretty solid job at Spurs IMO. Unfortunately for him he was not a "big name" so he had a lot of pressure on him from the start. Yes he didnt set the PL on fire he didnt flatter to decieve either,

All that said I dont think QPR is the job for him

The man's a muppet and he hasn't a ****ing notion about tactics. Bentaleb?

Couldn't agree more... utter bellend with not one ounce of tactical ability... Bentaleb summed it all up really - well said sir!

Sherwood got the job because he was an ex Spurs player. In no other industry do you get a job running the place cos you used to work there.

You don't see car companies employing some bloke to run them cos he once drove a car! "That Nigel Mansell was a great driver, lets make him Managing Director."

No one is suggesting making Joey Essex PM cos he once voted!

So why cos someone was a good player do people think they will automatically make a good manager? The list of those who have tried and failed is ten times the size of the list of those who are actually any good at it. I can understand ex pros wanting to stay in the game (after all most know nothing else) but go and learn your trade in the lower leagues and THEN apply for PL jobs. Don't just expect to swan into a "top" job cos you were half decent 15 years ago.

Rant over.

Well that's not strictly accurate, it's not like Spurs pulled Gazza out of an AA meeting and put him in charge  Sherwood had been coaching at the club for years after he stopped playing and at the time I think making him temporary head coach was a good move, he was no different from the 'caretaker managers' most clubs end up with when the manager suddenly leaves or is fired.

True, I'd forgotten he was caretaker/temporary manager.

It's the fact he thought he'd get the job full time or that some people though he deserved it that amazes me. Lets be fair, given the coaching structures most clubs have, any one of us could manage at a PL club, for a few weeks or months and do a passable job. Does that make us qualified to do it long term? Does it ****.

Well Spurs have owned the first half, yet again Danny "Centre Forward" Rose thinks it's somebody else's job to make the left-back challenges and gifts a goal (that was actually offside anyway)

I always felt it would be a surprise if we got anything out of this today. Slight bonus that Sanchez isn't playing but i still think we'll get beat.

Certainly wasn't expecting to do to Arse what we did to Chelsea, but pretty disappointed to be 0-1 down after 11 minutes! Nice one Rose... bring back BAE!

No there's never any expectation to win in these games, but it's frustrating when the scoreline doesn't reflect the game. A theme of these derbies actually, can't remember the last time Arsenal won one due to playing better rather than stupid mistakes etc.
