Premier League Discussion Thread Season 2014-15

Nice one Spurs, 5 points dropped against West Brom and Sunderland. And then they'll wonder why they missed out on the Champions League by <5 points at the end of the season

Might have to start supporting my birth town of Leicester instead, they seem to be doing much better

As a Liverpool fan and a self confessed ABU, i can honestly say that was never a penalty. You cant allow one blatant shoulder barge and then 4 seconds later penalise a shoulder rub. If the second one is a foul, the first one is a yellow card.

Saying that, as Liam said, if you defend like that (it reminded me of Liverpool) you won't win anything. Since when did one soft decision result in a team like Utd shipping four unanswered goals to a newly promoted side in one half?

Spurs result surprised me. Ditto Everton.

Liverpool, Utd, Spurs and Everton all lose. City and Chelsea draw. Good weekend for Arsenal. Bad weekend for anyone who had a bet on.

In was there. We were awful. Really should have lost by more. I don't see any hope for this team. We were about as good as we should have been.

Fancy a cup shock on Wednesday night for Forest! :D

It wouldn't be a "shock".

Probably not. But from the outside looking in at spurs. A Championship side beating a top 10 prem side (should be) would certainly be viewed as a "cupset" if not a full blown shock a la Luton - Norwich in the FA Cup.

Will Spurs care about the worthless cup?

I can see a reserve side being played. TBF Forest may do the same, favouring a league run and aiming for promotion. It may be a game neither side will be too bothered about losing.

Knowing the Pochettino from Southampton he didnt care about the cups. Pearce at Forest did play a fairly strong XI at Huddrsfield in the previous round only resting Britt.

I'll be there, will let you know

IMO Spurs should throw everything in to the Cups and Europa League now. They're clearly not good enough to get top 4 in the Prem but equally are not bad enough to go down. I'd be happy with 10th in the league if any one cup was won, at least it's something!

Europa maybe but not the Calring Cup. That thing is an embarrassment. Really wouldn't wanna win that. It's utterly meaningless. Even the FA Cup has lost a lot of it's pull. Just look at the teams in the finals and winning it the last few seasons. ****ing Wigan, Hull, Stoke, Portsmouth Swansea etc. Just shows the lack of interest in it from bigger teams.

Yeah I remember when the FA Cup final was the highlight of the season! The fact they call them all something different due to the sponsorship doesn't help.

Yeah, long time ago now, sadly.

I think the money that goes with the CL is the main cause.

Having 2 domestic cups that are for all intents and purposes exactly the same doesn't help either. I've never understood the point of the Carling Cup. It's false economy.

Agreed.

I suspect it probably had a purpose when English clubs were banned from Europe, although it pre dates the ban by a long time. Now it's just a waste of time.

Never really took notice of the FA cup since it was branded the FAmous cup by Sky.

Used to love the days of Liverpool v Everton and the likes slogging it out in the finals.

I always think the league cup would be better minus the European teams each season, so the rest all have a crack at getting to wembley, it's the teams in Europe that have the fixture congestion and then it gives a chance to get into the Europa league for those teams who don't really get a chance to get there through the league I.e. Swansea, west ham, man Utd, Stoke etc

Love that Rogers is starting Rahim "he needs a rest" Sterling in tonights Who Cares Cup. Hilarious.

I can't believe they're wrecking the career of a new kid by calling him the new Gerrard. No-one has even seen him yet and he has this terrible burden already.

**** you cup hating bastards.

Leam start their FACUP glory trail at home to Wroxham this Saturday. Dreaming of getting through to the first round proper like we did in 2005 and maybe drawing a glamour tie like Coventry away.. Awesome.

In 2005 when we were at level 9 of the pyramid we lost 9-1 away at Colchester in the 1st round. An epic day out and that goal is still celebrated today.

Yeah I agree the cups are great for the lower league teams, and in turn young British talent.
