Premier League 2020/2021 Thread

Can anyone explain to me why Jose, apparently a defensive mastermind, keeps playing Aurier when we bought Doherty in the summer? It took us a decade to get rid of Danny Rose, we finally have someone decent in left back (Reguilon) yet he keeps playing Aurier as right back who makes mistake after mistake after mistake costing us dearly, just like Rose did. That's got to be one of the stupidest fouls I've ever seen. Not to mention the fact it was conceded 2 minutes into 1 minute of injury time

Out of jail there Edd with VAR !
Come on Spurs, much better than Leicester just need to attack now and not be so defensive ( big ask with Jose at the helm)

Yes let off with the offside, but swiftly cancelled out by a bizarre own goal. Can't even really blame Alderweirald for that one, how was a cross from the half way line allowed to get on the head of Vardy in the six yard box, just more sloppy defending. Not sure why Jose waited 60 minutes to take Aurier off

At least he has seen Aurier is an issue and taken him off, mountain to climb but Leicester are vulnerable at the back, not a lost cause with Son and Kane on the pitch, Spurs just need to get the ball to them

Well that was just hopeless, can't even say Leicester earned that, it was thrown away by a stupid penalty and flukey own goal. Vardy is one of those players where everything seems to go his way, branded a 'hero' today for doing literally nothing.

On the plus side, Spurs are finally over the hill of one of the worst runs of fixtures I've ever seen - United, Chelsea, City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Leicester in a month. Come on, who makes these draws, that is ridiculous. As I said at the time I expected us to be mid table after that lot, so the fact we're still clinging on to fourth is quite an achievement really. I think the only 'dropped points' we can complain about from those fixtures was against Palace, any points from the rest were a bonus.

I saw bits of the game, just up to before the second goal.
The penalty did make me laugh. It was a daft foul, but as soon as I saw the replay I knew edd_jedi would cursing Aurier up and down, and rightly so. Why was he even trying to 'tackle' yer man, he's on the edge of the box going away from goal!?

I thought the offside was a nonsense. It's another of those "your armpit is offside so, no goal" BS decisions. Show me a goal scored by a players armpit, or upper arm!? Any goal, in any league, in any country, ever....

The whole VAR for offsides like that is really pissing me off, and this is not an anti spurs rant, Pool have had 2 or 3 disallowed for the same reason. The way Offside is interpreted and those stupid lines really annoy me. It's sucking the entertainment out of football. Who watches the game to be annoyed by daft VAR decisions!? ATM at FT I a find myself more often than not pissed off with VAR decisions than happy to have watched a decent game of football.

Ohh and Benteke gets two yellows in the same game for leading with an arm yet a near identical incident in the Utd game (I think it was Fat Maguire) isn't even a foul. The inconsistency is almost as bad. I agree with the non foul in the Utd game, you can't jump without using your arms. But how can it be two yellows one week and not even a foul the next!?

Sick of these awful decisions! How was that a foul by Bowen? Silva falls over holding his stomach?! Joke.

Missed that game.

Some shocking defending by Arsenal for the first and fourth goals here. The keeper lets in a ridiculously soft second goal as well, that killed the game as a contest. Especially when the third followed soon after.

That's City in the final then. I mean, we all know they will draw Brentford in the semi's. Brentford are the weakest team left in, so it's a cert City draw them, and obviously hump them. Sooooo exciting to see City given all these cushy games

I was thinking exactly the same City getting Brentford. I see the final's not until April.

I don't even think City were that good tonight. Call me delusional, you probably will, but IMO with Partey, Leno & Luiz instead of Mustafi, Elneny and Runnarson and we win tonight

I agree, they weren't (from what I saw). BUT....they didn't need to be, to win 4-1. They were in second gear.

Yeah, I don't think they got out of second all night

Cavanni was lucky last night. Mina made a meal of it, but hand to face/throat/jaw is normally a straight red.

I wonder will he get a retrospective ban, to go with the one he has coming for being a racist.

Probably will, Everton were pants last night played for pens, they deserved what they got. How much better is a game with no VAR!

Spurs get the buy to the final then. lol

Remember this is the team that have been knocked out by Colchester and Norwich in the last two seasons, I wouldn't be so sure

More nonsense decisions. That Arsenal penalty was NEVER a foul. Tierney is going down before any minimal contact from James. Yes, he (James) was stupid to even try and tackle him but when the attacker is going down BEFORE you touch him, how in the name of good ****, can VAR look at it and agree it's a penalty!?
Don't get me wrong, I hate Chelsea as a club, and quite like Arsenal (sorry spurs fans) but that was a nonsense decision.

Then in the Leeds Burnley game (it was that or let munchkin watch Mr Tumble, again. And yes, it was still a close call), the Leeds keeper comes for the ball, jumps over Ben Mee, drops it, Burnley put it in the net and Leeds get a free. Ben Mee, who wouldn't be my favourite footballer, doesn't even know the keeper is there. He just jumps to try and head it and the keeper comes over the top if him, yet the keeper gets a free. Nonsense.

Football is a contact sport, the way we are going it's getting to the stage where ANY contact in the box is enough for someone to go down/dive and the ref/VAR give them a penalty. It's pathetic.
As for keepers, the protection they get has long been ridiculous. I'm not saying I want to go back to the days where you could kick the keeper into the net and get a goal, but just cos a keeper drops a ball....it doesn't mean he was fouled!
