That Utd Chelsea game was strange. Utd were never 4 goals better. Up until that suicidal tackle by Zouma for the pen Chelsea were much the better side. Then Utd dominated but just as Chelsea were coming back in to it Azpelucueta switched off twice in 30 seconds for two goals and game over.
Scary how easily Chelsea were carved open on the break, granted a fully fit Kante will help stop that but still, Frank has a lot of work to do. Zouma just looked 5 yards off it all day. He was so bad I actually thought Chelsea missed David Luis. Azpuelcueta (how the **** do you spell his name?) dropped two massive bollocks inside 30 seconds. Very unlike him. Then there is Pedro. A boy who in one 30 second period managed to give it away in dangerous positions three times. I've never seen him play as badly as he did yesterday. I would love to see what his pass completion rate was (assuming they dont count passes to the other team) I'd be amazed if he made double figures.
I did joke last year how Chelsea were ten blokes and Eden Hazard, yesterday showed he really did carry all their attacking intent. They had tonnes of possession but created very little with it and generally looked like they lacked a spark.
Saying all that I wasn't overly impressed with Utd. Better than Chelsea, but probably just because they took some of their chances. They still look a work in progress. The forward line is weak. That midfield doesn't scream CL either. I was impressed by AWB at RB. He looked very solid defensively. His crossing is pish but in an 'old school' way I dont mind defenders who defend first and foremost. You can teach a solid defender to cross a lot easier than you can teach a good crosser to defend. Or a **** crosser to cross and defend in the case of Ashley Young.
I musta missed the bits where Harry Maguire was amazing. Everyone seems to be saying how brilliant he was. I literally didnt see him do anything a bang average CB couldn't have done. He was by no means bad, he just didnt have much to do. One game tells us FA anyway.
Fingers crossed Zouma plays on Wed night. Salah will hate having to run at him for 90mins lol.

A terrific result for Spurs today. Not many teams will come away from the Etihad with any points, so very well done Tottenham! :-D
Amazing result. Arguably got lucky with the VAR but at least correct decisions are now being made, it's been a long time coming. I can see why City fans feel cheated considering they had 25 odd shots on goal compared to Tottenham's 3, but that is EXACTLY what Spurs have a reputation for, tonnes of possession with nothing to show for it. So good to finally see a bit of clinical finishing, and drawing away at City gives me a lot of hope for the season.

Norwich looking wonderfully attacking (hard to say as an Ipswich fan), Pukki and Cantwell in particular. Villa look a good side going forward, McGinn the pick of the bunch so far. The Blades look great defensively. Lundstram is surprising a few people particularly Blades fans. Think all three might be safe on the evidence of the first two games. Arsenal look to have found a player in Ceballos. Be interesting to see how they do when Pépé integrates into the team and if that means more goals for Aubameyang. Looking forward to the game against Liverpool next weekend.
I thought Chelsea were impressive for the first half of yesterday's game, they could have been 3 or 4 nil up at half time. Not sure what happened in the second half, either Leicester upped their game or Chelsea ran out of steam. But despite the result Lampard's Chelsea are looking half decent.
I've just suffered through one of the weakest Spurs performances I can remember. Jesus, they were shite! Newcastle planted all 10 men behind the ball and Tottenham's usual feeble, pedestrian, side-to-side-back bollocks game that they always play and which is utterly ineffective was utterly ineffective, and they got out of the game exactly what they deserved. How can Pochettino possibly think those are good tactics? It never, ever works. All it does is invite the opposition to fully array their defence in front of Spurs, giving them ample time to block any and all Tottenham efforts to pass the ball anywhere other than side-to-side or back!
Yes that was hopeless. I always say it though, the guaranteed way to draw against/beat Spurs is just put all 11 players in the penalty box. If there's one thing Poch needs to practice, it's penetrating a defence. Tottenham are literally the worst team in the league at doing so.
I think that VAR decision on the penalty was wrong though, no surprise Mike Dean didn't give Spurs a penalty but I was convinced VAR would over rule him. I don't see how any ref could see that as anything other than the defender throwing himself in Kane's path. would he have got the ball and scored? Probably not, but that should be irrelevant.

It was clearly a penalty but I don't think VAR could overrule it as from the ref's angle he didn't make an obvious error. If this was the World Cup it'd be a penalty.
There's no point in having VAR if it's going to be used, or rather not used, in that way. If the ref is unsighted and as a result doesn't see a foul, why the hell can VAR not overrule him? Requiring it to be a clear and obvious error before VAR can overrule him simply ensures yet more incorrect decisions will stand.
It's high time they used Hawkeye and technology like VAR in all sports for as many decisions as possible. Why the hell should cricketers and tennis players have to appeal a decision if they think it's wrong? If you always used Hawkeye decisions would always be right. How is that doing anything other than benefiting the game? Where is the advantage in deliberately including the possibility of human error? And it should be exactly the same with football and VAR. If an offence is spotted and the ref doesn't spot or give it, VAR should.

I agree I've always been for VAR. but most of those involved in football don't really want it. Nearly all the ex-managers and players hate it listening to them during interviews. I think each year it'll get stronger.
That's probably because the vast majority of professional footballers are cheating bastards who would be caught out by VAR. So-called 'professional fouls' and 'taking one for the team' seem to have become an accepted part of the game, instead of being straight red cards for blatant cheating.Richard_H said:

Utd and Spurs have dropped five pts each after three games. Now I know both sides were probably realistic enough to know the title was beyond them, and 2nd-4th was their target. But **** me, that's not doing much for any supposed title race. It looks like it may well be another procession, possibly a two team procession, and everyone else is left fighting for 3rd/4th, EL and or to stay up. Exciting! :roll:

I'm hoping Tottenham's shocking start means a strong finish, unlike last season where they were genuine title contenders until February and then somehow managed to take less points than Fulham in the following 3 months! Probably wishful thinking though.
In other (non PL) news, I'm glad Bolton have managed to hang on, it's mad how they have gone from PL and Europe to this mess in a little over a decade. Sad for Bury although must admit not a team that was ever really on my radar.
Oh, and Sanchez going to Inter Milan with Utd subsidising him to the tune of 180k a WEEK :lol: What a truly horrible man he is, he sure has a lot of money but obviously no shame.

The argument for him being one of the worst transfers in PL history gets stronger as his time at Utd goes on. Not been a 'disaster' on the pitch, but been pretty bloody atrocious. Off the pitch and specifically his wages and their impact on Utd's pay structure, that has been the mother of all **** ups.
