I THINK Sunderland sacked Advocaat first. I have vague memories of telling a mate Pool had sacked Rodgers cos they were worried Sunderland were going to pinch Fat Sam on them. Close enough that I'll give you it though.
On the subject of Liverpool. WTF was that!?
First half was ok, I didn't think there was much in it, pretty cagey. Sevilla probably had more possession and territory but didn't really threaten much. Liverpool didn't do much until the goal. After that it was one way traffic until HT.
That second half couldn't have gone much worse. I was talking to a mate yesterday morning and I actually said "I hope someone has told Alberto Moreno that LB means you mark and defend and don't go walk about." Clearly no one did. Or the wee scrote didn't listen. Pish header in the build up to the goal and then some pathetic attempt to tackle as your man rolled it across for the tap in. Good goal, from Sevilla's point of view, totally changed the dynamic of the game. Liverpool never recovered. There was only one team going to win after that. Fair dos Sevilla were better on the night and deserved it. I just wonder what would have happened if Liverpool had a LB who was actually a professional footballer and not picked by a lottery before the game. His positional sense for the third goal is pathetic as well. He runs back into the box but rather than marking his man (the unmarked bloke who goes on to score) he just runs in and stands there. Yes, Lovern's pass to Can was poor, or Can was sleeping, and that caused the problem but if Moreno had marked his man it would only have been 2-1.
Mind you, Liverpool offered nothing on the attacking front in the second half, or for most of the first to be fair. Coutinho, Firminio and (bar his goal) Sturridge were all anonymous. You can get away with 1 or maybe 2 players in a team having games like that, but not all three of your forwards.
Disappointing, especially given the no-show in the second half, but the better side won.
Not sure about those three penalties. The one Firminio lifts past yer man MAYBE you get when it's your day, but given the ref and 5/6th officials positions I can understand how they didn't see/give it. Either way it would have been soft. The other two were never penalties. The disallowed goal was prob fair enough. Sturridge was right in keepers eye line and probably just about off side. Again, maybe on another day, but probably the correct decision was made.
It'll be interesting to see what Klopp does over the summer. He needs a new LB, but I think he knew that. A keeper and some genuine wide midfielders would also be nice. Saying that I expect City and Chelsea to make a good few signings this summer as well so it could well be an interesting summer. Spurs need a striker and more squad depth too (Ryan Mason...). Obviously Arsenal will sign 3 twelve year French speaking kids and pick up a few auld players on free transfers and Wenger will continue to delude himself.
