PL 2017-2018 Thread

I never understand why clubs try and hang on to a player that wants to leave, the passion has already gone. Cash in while you can. Selling Walker for 50m was genius.

Rooney arrested for drink driving

Beggars belief.

I don't find drink driving funny in any way what so ever, but the fact he's done it just after retireing from international football dureing the international break says it all really.

Looks like the little head took control of the big head :? He's a lunatic and a wild bastard he just has that wild edge to him. We probably all know someone like that. Although that doesn't justify drink driving. I watched him on YouTube he was full one nite and got knocked out cold messing around with boxing gloves in someone's house.

I saw the headline and no more. I still don't get why PL clubs allow their players to drink. They are contractually banned from riding motorbikes or doing illegal drugs (obviously) but they allowed to drink and smoke? I don't get it.

As for Llorente, hhmmmm. Tad underwhelming. He is a lazy bastard. I mean a proper lazy bastard. He averages something like 8 sprints per game. Basically he just walks about and waits for someone to cross it onto his head. Nt sure how that fits with Spurs hi tempo pressing game. I guess against the 'weaker' PL sides it may not matter, but he strikes me more as someone who will be thrown on with 5-10 to go when Spurs need a goal. Square peg, round hole.

As for Coutinho, Suarez wanted to leave the season before we flogged him to Barca and I seem to remember he okayed ok that year. It's a gamble but I wouldn't be surprised to see him sign for Barca next summer (or Jan) if he plays as well as he has done in the kast few years then we haven't lost much. He doesnt strike me as a huffy wanker, hopefully I havent just jinxed it, so with any luck he'll settle down in a week or two and be professional about it.

Liverpool have done well with Coutinho I think, like you say he's not a huffy twat so should be professional about it. As much as I dislike Liverpool I would honestly prefer Liverpool to have him than Barcelona, it's about time someone told them to sling it.

Thing for me is now it doesn't matter how much money they offer for him, unless Liverpool have someone lined up as good as him, what's the point selling he's just signed a 5 year deal. I hope he gets injured for the Utd game though.

Well that was two very underwhelming England performances. When I was a kid we used to have a good go at Argentina, Germany, Holland etc. Now we struggle against Slovakia and Malta  it's quite amazing how 11 obviously talented players can't gel at all. I wonder if international teams used to get more training times together in the past?

I really wish England got a harder qualifying group, as they haven't played anyone descent in a competitive match since the World Cup. I don't think they used to train more, just whent put on the piss together which helped with bonding as a team.

I lost all interest in international football qualifiers a long time ago. Really, does ANYONE look forward to International breaks? I check to see how Norn Iron did but that's all. You couldn't pay me enough to watch an England qualifier. I'll watch the big tournaments but even they are slowly being ruined. The last Euros was one of the worst tournaments i can remember and with the WC being expanded soon this may well be our last chance to watch a decent international tournament.

On that note, I did read an article somewhere where the author suggested scrapping international breaks and holding all the qualifiers over a few weeks at the end of the season. Obviously with no breaks during the regular season you finish sooner. Thus the 2-3-4 weeks you save can be given over to international qualifiers in May. Playing Wed, Sat, Wed, Sat is hardly going to be unusual for International players, most will do it with domestic league and European football anyway. It means International managers get their players for a full month or so and don't have huge breaks in between games. It saves fans getting 3 weeks of PL action then having a 2 week break for snorefest friendlies/qualifiers and if you schedule them all a year out ppl will be able to get to the games should they want. I don't see any major draw bakcs. Of course it's far too radical and well, too sensible for FIFA/UEFA so it'll never happen.

So did anybody predict De Boer's sacking? Quite ridiculous really, not sure who saw the game against Burnley but they were terribly unlucky. I don't see how you can sack a manager if the team is playing really well and just having bad luck.

As I said to a mate, if you are going to appoint a manager and then sack him after 4 games, you have to do the decent thing and follow him out the door. If, as you sacking him after 4 games suggests, he was a very bad appointment, then you/whoever appointed him clearly did an atrocious job in hiring him and sure as **** shouldn't be allowed to repeat the whole process just 3 months later.

Appointing Uncle woy shows they havent a ****ing clue. Bar giving Moyes the job they could not have appointed a less charasmatic, and less talented manager if they tried. He will suck the life out of that club, bore the fans shitless and most probably take them down. After the Boards efforts in the last 3 months I hope they do go down.

As for other football at the weekend, **** me Liverpool that was the definition of bending over. More fight in a shite.

It's been quiet in here for the last few weeks, let's have an international break (sigh) catch up.

United are looking the real deal at the moment. Still can't quite work out how they were (relatively) so **** last season and now seem to be not only winning but playing great football, but kudos to Jose. Looks like Palace are going down already, who on earth thought Roy was the man for the job? I think third is flattering for Spurs considering their **** start but at least Harry has started scoring two months earlier than usual.

Harry Kane is unbelievable at the moment and if he stays fit Spurs have got a chance of winning something this season. The two Manchester clubs are looking good, have to say City looking the better at the moment, Utd missing Pogba for sure.

Think Chelsea will struggle as the season goes on, with the smaller squad they have, thought City completely out classed them last Saturday, a bit worrying for the other title challengers. Small part of me thinks City might run away with it. :?

Liverpool blow teams away when they feel like it, good job they have under 18's mentality of defending. When they played City I thought Liverpool were much better for the first half hour, but it's not enough I guess.

I think it's going to come down to the head to heads this season, which City are winning at the moment.

Holy moly is that the worst international break ever for an England supporter!

And their is another one before Christmas.

I went and did some ironing at half time and didn't come back. A wise choice in retrospect

Swings and roundabouts boys. It all goes in cycles. You get good years and you get **** years. These are your **** years. Your team is fairly kack. You've strolled qualifying for the WC but every sane footy fan knows you're cannon fodder for a "big" side. Give it 5-10 years and it'll be roll reversal. Look how **** Germany where in Euro 2002, Spain pre their WC win were infamous chokers. France have been up and down and up again over the last 20 years. Argentina are on course to miss out on the WC.

At least in your **** years you stroll WC qualification. Spare a thought for the rest of us. Scotland just missed out and are now heading into their third decade without playing in a major championships. Wales and my lot both made the last Euros and that was our first championship since 58 and 86 respectively. We're heading to the play offs and Wales or ROI will join us. My money is on NI missing out and seeding and drawing bloody Portugal or Italy

Ohh good Mane out for 6 weeks and just the small matter of Utd coming up on Sat. That'll be no points for Liverpool then
