PL 2016-2017 Thread

How three different Utd managers have not only picked Fellaini but dropped him and then pick him again is behond me and they have all brought him back from the brink for big games and it's a complete disaster every time. Then you have Micheal Carrick scratching his ass on the bench when he would probably get in the Italian starting 11! He's that good. Not going to make excuses about players who should have been sent off we lost by 4 goals, Slaten Ibrahimovich is still walking into the side? Why?

David De Geah gets a lot of credit but he cost us today big time, if he keeps his position then no problem.

Weasel you should read 'the secret world of JM', half of me thinks you wrote it! His whispering in Conte ear is all part of the plan. Sychopath....

I agree Edd, but what comes near for entertainment and unbradictability?

Sunderland need an SOS, big Sam will do the job!

When he was sacked by England I said I could see him going back to Sunderland. Poor Moyesy is looking more and more like a complete joke.

I remember someone telling me that David Moyes was the right man to take over at Man Utd before he actually did and my reply was that I disagreed strongly because Everton was the right club for him. Funny thing is now Everton probably would have moved him on anyway. Their must be a club for him surely? Sunderland are a horror show at the moment. :?

His appointment at Utd was very similar to Woy's at Liverpool. On paper you thought, "yeah, ok, I can see the logic...." But there was always a massive wave of disappointment that said "surely to christ there is SOMEONE better who's available. Underwhelming would be a fair word to describe both appointments.

Sadly, i suspect Utd broke Moyesy. Either than or he was a terrible manager all along and he had got lucky at Everton.

I think Fergie chose Moyes because he was the only top tier Scottish manager available, he's not exactly afraid to discuss his patriotism!

Funny you say that Edd, because that's what I was told and said never, Fargie would not let patriotism get in the way of making the correct decision. But in hindsight, why else would they have employed him?

See Sunderland lost again tonight, Man City we're awful, ok 9 changes compared to Man Utd's 4. But six games without a win now for Pep Guardeola, his worst ever run as manager.

Undoubtedly Moyes' nationality had a hand in him getting the job, even so I was amazed no one at Utd stood back and said "Really? David Moyes? Surely we can do a tad better!?"

I think between Pool, spurs and Arsneal they made 30 changes on Tuesday night. A lot to be said for making the worthless cup open to teams who aren't playing in Europe only. Ok, if that rule was in this season Pool and Chelsea, would still be in it (and prob pick weakened teams) but most seasons you would only have 1 "big" side in it taking the piss with weakened sides. That gives everyone else a decent shot at winning something AND getting a Europa league spot. I can't see the CL sides complaining too much.

I was really surprised Spurs put out their Sunday league team on Tuesday and effectively forfeit the league cup, it would just be nice for them to win SOMETHING. I don't care whether we're 2nd or 6th in the PL at the end of the season, it's all still losing. Winning any one trophy is better IMO.

On another note, why are we Americanising all of our football leagues and cups? EFL, EPL, EFL cup, etc. What was wrong with the League Cup and Premier League? It was bad enough when they started putting random brand names in front of them.

Not a fan of the Americanisation of English, i don't even like using "Brexit" i normally use the full (unbastardised) term, i agree on EPL etc. I do use CL for champions league but that's purely laziness as I CBA typing Champions League out every time. Not sure where it all came from though or who suddenly started it.
I don't really go in for all this Sports Direct Arena BS either. It's St James park. Always has been and always will be to me. The Emirates and Ethihad, i can tolerate cos they have only ever been called that, but no doubt those names will change soon enough.

Agree on the dislike of this years flavour of the month being all these bloody acronyms and I certainly agree with the sentiment about stadium naming rights too... I wonder though where will you all fall on the new Spurs stadium name; whatever it may yet be? It is going to be on approx 1/3 of current White Hart Lane stadium footprint in its entirety when complete, but it will be a totally new ground covering a very different footprint to the existing ground/stadium.
I can't see Spurs fans calling it anything other than WHL, but non-Spurs fans, (derogatory names aside of course  )... will they adopt the new named stadium or stick with WHL?

I agree this Americanising is rubbish, it must have something to do with Sky they are still trying to sell the MLS to us for god sake, its appalling to watch and I refuse to be force fed it. I still call the champions league The European Cup, best name and the cup stage is when it really begins for me.

As for winning something I would settle for one of any of the 5 trophies every season, I agree who cares where you come in the league unless you finish 1rs. Last season Man Utd finished 5th and won the FA Cup would I swap that for winning nothing and finishing 4th, 3rd or even 2nd, never would take a trophie every time. It's only the club owners and media who try to convince everyone the top 4 is the be all and end all of English football, because it's all about money to them.

Interesting.....so you're telling me fourth every year with the occasional third or second isn't a trophy????

Spurs new stadium will be white hart lane to me. Doesn't matter what they call it, i'll refer to it as white/shite hart lane.

I watched Sunderland Arsenal yesterday. My god Sunderland are ****ed. Dreadful team. No discernible style of play, totally devoid of confidence and a manager who barely knows what he's doing. I'll be amazed if he still has a job by the end of November. I think they have Bournemouth, Hull and Liverpool next. If they don't win at least one of those first two games they are as good as gone already, and i wouldn't put money on them winning any game at the minute.

I heard a stat during the game, Jack Rodwell has made 33 appearances for Sunderland and has finished on the winning side a grand total of ZERO times. Thirty three games and the best they have done is scrape a few draws. That is lamentable.

Also, a round of appaluse for Moyesy and what has got to be the greatest substitution of all time. 70 mins gone, sunderland had been playing better (i don't wanna say "well" cos they were a shambles all game) they have just equalised their heads were up, and they looked like they might actually pull off a shock, so he puts on Adam Januzai. EIGHT minutes later they are 4-1 down, the half empty stadium is now three quarters empty and the game is over. Way to turn a game Dave! From chance of a point to game well and truly ****ed away inside eight minutes!
And Januzai was at least partly responsible for the second goal as he lets his man take te ball past him far too easily down the Sunderland right channel.

The Championship is calling.

It's the joint worse start to a Premier League season ever, soon to be the worst I feel for Sunderland fans. :?

Not seen any of the Man Utd game but seen the stats and read a couple reports sounds like another Stoke game that we drew 1-1. All ifs and buts, but if you change those two games into wins were only 4 points of the top. No complaints though if that team can't find the net then it's only the players fault IMO. JM needs to calm down he's at a club that won't sack him for finishing 4th in his first season, although that's looking dodgy. :? :|

Sunderland fans are already resigned to the fact that they're down. Go down, rebuild and come back is their only option. Arsenal were not impressive and are still in a false position.

Agree 100% but sadly football has a massive amount to do with luck. I watched the United game and they did not deserve to draw, even with the sending off. Didn't they break the record for most shots on goal in a single PL match, and somehow didn't even score? The odds against it are incredibly low.

Likewise Spurs managed to draw with Leicester by conceding the only shot they had on target, again incredibly unlikely on paper but hey that's football.

Speaking of luck, check this out

Utd had 37 shots, the highest ever recorded in the PL. I assume that's the highest ever in a PL game without scoring.
I've seen the MOTD highlights and in another day Utd would have won 4/5/6-0 and that was a ridiculously harsh second booking for the red. First one was a yellow. Second one he slipped. A warning would have more than sufficed.

Jose is looking like he's struggling with the pressure though.

BIIIIGGGGG auld game for Spuds this w/e. North London derby, and given they have 4 or 5 draws on the spin (before that CL defeat) it become more important again. Win and it's 5/6 unbeaten. Lose and it's 5 or 6 without a win.

Big w/e for Utd as well. I didn't see their Europa league defeat but I heard they were dreadful. I suspect no Utd fans will cry too much if they do get knocked out of it early, but the fact it is a near first strength side and they are looking so pish can't do anything for the rock bottom confidence at OT.
Jose is really looking and sounding like the Jose from his last few months at Chelsea, and that ain't good (for Utd). Still, Moyesy will no doubt be available again soon!
