PL 2015-16 Chat

It's CL group stages, then humped in the first round knock out round. Sad to see as I do like Arsenal, but the number of times they have stuffed up CL groups or coasted to second place and then paid the price in the knock out rounds is embarrassing. It's almost as if Wenger thinks qualifying is all he needs to do, anything after that is a bonus.

Which TBF seemed to be Brendan Rodger's attitude when Liverpool got in last year

Yeah, I'll be honest, I'm not looking forward to next week....Zagreb away on Wednesday and then away to Chelski 12:45 on the Saturday with them having had a cushty home game mid week. Mourinho teams don't tend to stay crap for long.

Yeah the Arsenal situation has to change soon, surely this is his last chance to at least get close to winning the league. He should have walked or been sacked when they agreed to sell van Persie to Man Utd.

Yep, I agree, anyway back in fantasy land Klopp is available so may as well add him to my I wish list despite the poor last season with Dortmund

What about Carlo Ancelotti?

Given the obvious flaws in the transfer market I was starting to think about bringing 'Arry out of retirement even if it was just for the through the car window interview

Some more interesting results today! I watched the first half of the Everton Chelsea game and they were on really top form, one of the best performances I've seen so far. Still way too early to write off Chelsea but there does seem to be a problem.

I'll be happy if the trouble at Chelsea lasts another week but I really am expecting a backlash

Chelsea are out of it already IMO 11 points behind and Mourinho is always a front runner when he wins the league. That said it is to early to right them off thow. Can't see past City at the moment 5 points infront and Arsenal and Man Utd closest challengers, they need to start dropping points soon or it will be over by March.

That Martial looks like a bargain. :?

Jose's hit his 3rd season Achilles heal, he'll have spat the dummy out by November, they'll be too far behind and he'll walk, city to win by a country mile, unless they implode, can't see it though.
I could see LVG going aswell if Man U don't contend.

Relieved that Spurs have finally won a game but it wasn't pretty, Sunderland were arguably better. Why did we let Defoe go again!? He was very unlucky not to score. Chadli on the other hand was a laughing stock, missed several practically open goals. Kane seems to be going through a dry patch, apart from in an England shirt

I think they've blown the top four already, can't even put the 5 games so far down to bad luck, they've been very average. Looking like a mid table team this season.

Tottenham were like Arsenal up front today with their frustrating amount of golden chances and not being able to put it away. Still though some of them missed chances were embarrassing.

I wouldn't write off Spuds just yet - Chelsea and Liverpool are a mess at the moment and although Man U are winning there is disharmony in the camp. City have started well but he will come under pressure if they have a bad patch and I still think Arsenal will pay for not getting another striker in. Overall a poor Prem this season so top 4-5 spots are not as nailed on as they once were - think Palace, Everton, Swansea and Soton will all have a chance and Spuds will do too

I missed yesterday's game, I got to spend seven ****ing hours trying to get from London to Belfast. Thanks Easyjet

I did have the pleasure of watching that THING on Sat night that was passed off as a football match.

The first half was the worst game of football I have seen in years. Neither side looked anything like Premiership standard. TBF to Liverpool, they didn't even look like a Sunday League side. It was that bad. I haven't seen them that poor since Souness did his best to destroy the cub. United were slow and ponderous in the build up and the fact that a club of their stature is reduced to starting a big game like that with Fellaini as their lone striker says a lot about where they are ATM. Still, they should have been 3 up at the break. If Fellaini had a first touch (or any talent at all) he would have bagged a hat-trick. I heard a few Utd fans saying Liverpool turned up for a draw. I don't think they did. I think they were so bad, and so badly all over the place that they ended up encamped on the edge of their box because they couldn't string 3 passes together and kept giving it away. They were actually so bad that they were reduced to everyone stood on the edge of their box.
Still at least Brendan changed things at half time and sorted it all out..............

The first Utd goal was embarrassing. EIGHT Liverpool players in a line on their six yard box. Even if Utd hadn't seen the two unmarked players they had at the top of the box and had decided to play it in for a header, whatever Utd players ran in would have had the momentum from a 10 yard run to use to out jump the static Liverpool defence. As it was they went for the easy option, move Clyne and roll it to the unmarked player for him to tap it in. School boys defend better.
On that note, Gomez, stay on your ****ing feet! Herrera was going nowhere, there was no danger. What have you got to gain by tackling him there? Let him go, shepherd him and FFS don't foul him.
He's young, and in his first season in the PL so I'll give him a break.
Fantastic penalty though. You just don't save those.

The final two goals were just pure class. You can't do much about Benteke's and while I'd want Skertl to do a tad more against Martial, I may be being harsh on him. Take nothing away from that goal though, pure Thierry Henry. It's still too early to say if Martial is worth the money, I suspect not, but that goal did ooze class.

I bet Brendan Rodgers is glad Jose is around. If it wasn't for Chelsea being even more ****, he'd be under a hell of a lot of pressure now. What he was doing with Ings and Fermio as wide men I'll never know. Benteke stood up there more isolated than **** knows what and he has two attacking players theoretically playing out wide, when in fact they ended up as glorified midfielders such was Liverpool's shitness (I don't wanna say Utd's dominance as I don't think they dominated so much as Liverpool just didn't turn up). Saying that, can anyone tell me what LVG "philosophy" is? I just don't see any progress at Utd at all. That club still looks to be in transition. Should that still be the case after 15 months?

I think quite a few clubs (Man Utd, Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal to name a few) are afraid of the backlash they would get from firing their managers, even if it might be the right thing to do. The last few seasons have seen so many managers come and go, fans want stability. I agree you have to give a manager a fair chance, 6 months and one transfer window is not enough to turn around a club, but I do agree with you that all the ones mentioned above have been under achieving for a couple of years now and little progress is apparent.

And by under achieving in Spurs' case I don't mean a top four finish, I don't expect that, but I do expect them to win games that on paper they should do but have either lost or drawn countless of over the last few seasons - Palace, Leicester, Stoke, WBA etc etc. Progress in my eyes would be losing to the top five teams but at least consistently beating the lower table teams. What good is beating Arsenal and Chelsea if you then lose to all of the above. But I guess the PL isn't that simple any more, there aren't many pushover sides.

Payet's looking a bargain. When you look at the money Liverpool have spent since Suarez left (£25m on Lallana, £20m Markovic, £29m Firminho), he's looking like amazing value at around £10m. Nice to get a home win under our belts and good to be scoring plenty. COYI!

What's going on with Newcastle? Didn't think we were amazing last night, but it was a very straight forward win. £49 m spent and bottom for the Barcodes...
