PL 2015-16 Chat

That was impressive, well done Roy, you managed to make Utd look like an exciting team to watch.

Wee hint, drop shrek and then you can play Vardy, Kane and Ali in the positions they know best. You know, the ones where they looked ****ing superb all season! Kane's not a winger. Nor is Vardy. Ali is wasted if he has to sit deep. Wayne is good at banging whores and smoking. Let him stay at home where the whores can understand him!

You'd think England would have learnt their lesson about shoe-horning players into a team with the auld Lampard/Gerrard thing. Or Scholesy as a left sided midfielder. You just end up negating the effectiveness of the player. A team isn't just your best eleven players. You need people who are familiar with the position.

Agreed, wasn't a great performance last night. Everyone looked a little lost. I actually thought Rooney was half decent, but as you say I'm sure the others could do better if given that position.

Although it was worth watching for the karate kick red card

What was he thinking!? He couldn't have not seen Kane. Did he think the ref wasn't gonna book him for a head high tackle to Harry Kane's face?
That was, literally, the only highlight of the game.

Care of Football365 (talking about Shrek)......

The 30-year-old was predicted to start the game behind strikers Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy. Instead, he pushed forward into more or less a central striker role, forcing the two recognised forwards to wide positions. A reminder now that Kane and Vardy scored 49 Premier League goals between them this past season; Rooney scored eight.

Manchester United fans watching will have let out an audible and knowing groan as the game continued. After heading England's best opportunity comfortably into Rui Patricio's hands in the first half, Rooney embarked on his usual mission to drop deep and float 30-yard balls over to the right back. Poor Kyle Walker must have been knackered at half-time. The captain completed 57.1% of his first-half passes, which is a nigh-on unforgivable pass-success rate.

It is not even that Rooney was poor at Wembley; his inclusion forced England's three most positive players – Alli, Kane and Vardy – into unfamiliar positions in order to accommodate him. If he wants to be a central midfielder, play him in central midfield. If he wants to be a No 10, play him as a No 10. If he wants to play out wide, play him out wide. If he wants to play as a striker, play him as a striker. Do not do all four in the same match, particularly when he is struggling in each and every position he takes up.

With the first game of a major tournament just nine days away, we still do not know where England's captain should feature. Well, we do – the bench. Unfortunately, that is the only inapplicable option.

Same old story with England, round pegs in square holes, (or is it the other way around) be lucky to get out of the group stage IMO.

If I was Drinkwater I would be slightly aggravated to say the least.

Vardy to Arsenal seems to be looking more likely. I really don't understand these footballers, it seems they are literally just driven by money, something they already have no shortage of. Why would ANYBODY leave the reigning champions? I think it's massively disrespectful of him to leave after the chance Leicester took on him. I just don't see him fitting in at Arsenal, or anywhere else for that matter. Leicester won the title because of their team effort, not because of Vardy.

Yeah, I agree. Although I suspect at 29 Vardy is thinking it's his only shot at making it at a "big" club. No disrespect to Leicester but I don't see them being challengers for the CL spots over the next 2-3-4 years. Arsenal should be up there. I can see why he would want to be part of that. Mind you it's disappointing to see him leave Leicester. I would have liked that side to stay together so we could see if it was a once off fluke, and also so we could see how they did in the CL. I'm not sure he's really an Arsenal style player, he doesn't do the neat passing and nifty flicks. He runs and runs and harries defenders into making mistakes. In that sense he'd be a better fit for Spurs or Pool. But I gotta be honest in his position I'd probably go as well. "Better to try and fail, than not to try at all."

Yeah exactly, I also think Leicester were at least slightly lucky this season and are unlikely to compete next season, but if all their best players go over the summer we will never know. Massive kick in the balls to the club and the fans that have made him a hero.

Koeman to Everton confirmed

Strange decision! Southampton haven't had much luck keeping players or managers, crazy considering they've finished 6th and 7th those seasons!

You could argue Everton are a "bigger club" as they've been in the top flight forever and a day but since Saints revival and return they have been the better side.

everton probably have a better war chest, and maybe koeman arriving might sway a few players not to leave next season?

I don't get the Koeman to Everton thing. Saints are a great club, nice stadium, very good team, well run. What's not to like? Ok they have to sell a few of their better players every year but that's the way of the world. Utd had to sell Ronaldo when Real came calling. Ditto Spuds and Bale, Arsenal and Henry, Pool and Suarez/Torres.
Everton are a ****ing mess. Their squad is old and in need of a major overhaul. Barkley, Stones and Lukaku all blow hot and cold. Baines seems to be a fading force, the rest are a mix of older players, journey-men and solid but unspectacular shirt fillers. Why the **** would any sane manager swap Saints for Everton? Money can be the only logical reason.

Rumour has it that Everton have £100 million to spend this summer. In this day and age, that's 3-4 properly good players. Not world class, just solid good players. That's allowing for signing on fees, transfer fees, agents, fees and a few other lesser players signed as well.
Will 3 or 4 solid players suddenly make Everton better than Saints currently are? Will it make them better than Saints will be if they have to sell one or two of their best players this summer? I don't think so. That Everton job is gonna be 3-4 years work to turn that team/squad around.
And I'm not even sure you could say Everton are a "bigger" club than Saints. I'd probably argue the opposite.

Very very strange

I agree with the Koeman to Everton thing, my only thought was that he was thinking of leaving before the Everton offer came along anyway. Everton are a bigger club, fan base and all that, perhaps he wants the challenge?

Also think Vardy should go to Arsenal, didn't realise he was 29. If Leicester didn't win the league he would have said yes straight away. Think it's a funny one for Arsenal though, last role of the dice for AW this season?
