Slow and steady wins this race.

That says it all. 8)

Then I will probably lose the race, I am more of a bulldozer than a glider.

My impatience is my weakness, I hate the chase but love the kill, the Jawa is an example of that. I wish I could be more like you guys but I don't think I am made like that.

Thanks

Hi Everyone

If I knew the Jawa was going to create so many arguments I would never have bid on it!

My highest bid was £2600 and the highest counter bid was £2550, I dont know who the under bidder was but I am sure he would not appreciate some of the earlier comments relating to the price paid.

I have had a post on this site since early January saying I am looking to buy a Palitoy Jawa at market price and recieved no responses.

I have spoken to some very knowledgeable people on this site about values of Palitoy Jawa's and have been told the last graded one sold for £2500 cash with a graded Vinyl Jawa putting the value of the figure at £3500+

I have also been offered (by a collector, not a dealer) a graded Jawa, Ben and Chewbacca for £15,000 which I thought was excessive and declined it.

My question to everyone is if I had not bid on this item were else would I get one from?

Maybe I am a Mug by buying that figure as I have no idea what it will grade at but I bought it because I love Star Wars and I want it in my collection.

Thank you for all the people who congratuliated me and came to my support.

I would very much like to be part of this community as most people have been very helpfull and accomodating to me.

Kind Regards

Anthony

Congratulations on your purchase Anthony.

I've seen people for many, many years give their opinions about prices on many collectable products, then two years later, they have to eat their own words as the item in question has trebled in price.

The great thing is you could put that Jawa in another auction next month and it could sell for £4500......people wouldn't be so quick to call you a mug then, would they.... :D

My perception has always been, enjoy life to the full and if want to buy something and you have the cash, just go for it, lifes too short to worry..

Hi Ian

Thanks for your support, I know I am spontaneous and get carried away but I do it for the right reasons. Someone once told me "you can please some of the people some of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time" I guess this is what has happened now. Fortunately for some I have not Enjoyed the eBay experience much so I will return to the shadows to see what I can uncover there.

I know you have known Nick for a long time as I have. I have had the pleasure of dealing with him back in 2001 for a few years and now once again in 2017 I think he is a great guy and his prices are fair or I would not deal with him I can only speak as I find.

Kind Regards

Anthony

Does anyone know what the highest price a jawa has hit in the last 3 years on a public auction?

Or what the average price has been?

Well I've been away for a couple of days and the last few pages have made for quite the read! Wow guys, Anthony only bought a Jawa that he liked the look of, there's no need for arguments  .

For me I think it's total up to the buyer to decide what is the right price for them and if they're a patient person or not it's really none of our business is it? For me looking at that Jawa I think it looks to be in great shape and yes it might not grade high due to the price sticker removal but I would have been very happy to have had it in my collection, even if the rest of my set was 80-85 graded. The card looks really flat and the bubble and figure look blinding. I can't even really see the paper damage as it's on a stars background and the colours look really strong. Well done Anthony on adding a great piece to your collection and I'm sure it's going to fit right in with your other ones no matter how it grades (which I think you may as well just keep in a standard sliding bottom case).

Anyway, to answer you question Gary the eBay notes I have are -

12 back Jawa UKG 85 sold on January 2nd 2014 for 1000 GBP BIN
12 B Jawa AFA 80 sold on April 1st 2014 for 1000 GBP BIN
12 B Jawa ungraded with slight crushed bubble sold on April 5th 2014 for 400 GBP
12 B Jawa ungraded, top of bubble crushed and card faded sold on May 9th 2015 for 450 GBP
The same Jawa as above re-sold on May 24th 2015 for 405 GBP
12 B Jawa ungraded and not great with card creasing, paper missing from card front and bubble dent sold on September 25th 2015 for 600 GBP BIN

That's all the notes I have and I don't think I've seen another 12 back Jawa available on eBay since the last one I listed. I know one sold at Vectis but is does go to show that there aren't that many around and there must be quite a few people after this one for their run. Yes the price of this recent one that sold is high compared to a few years ago but that's hardly a surprise and I blame all the Jawa focus people out there

As long as you're happy with the little fellow Anthony I really think that's all that matters and everyone's entitle to their own thoughts on the price it cost but that's what it took to secure it, maybe one day some more of these will come up for sale but it's what it's worth today. It's always hard to know when certain figures are going to become available and I'm sure no one would have expected a huge auction of vintage Palitoy Star Wars figures like Vectis had recently to ever really happen in this day and age. At some point certain figures just seem to disappear like the 30 back Boba Fett so it was the right decision for you to pick one up now and that's all that really matters.

Best of luck with finding the other ones you're after and give this forum a little time and you'll see how everything works. There's a lot to learn being on here about the history of these classic toys and I remember when I first joined asking for a 12 back Palitoy Chewbacca reseal and having no luck. I now can see why that was as I'm pretty sure the wanted section on here isn't used that much by people and also it's best to put a few posts up first about yourself so people can get to know you, it'll all come in time.

Ian

I'm sorry if one comment on an auction price, which nobody knew you won has 'forced you back to the shadows' - seems a bit strange to me that you are somehow deserving of special treatment but there you go. So, to set the record straight, I now believe the jawa was a a shrewd purchase and a great price - congratulations on buying it.

Hi Max

I do not expect any special treatment just some mutual respect if Hypothetically Gary Smith or Ian(Palifan) had won the auction would you be calling them a mug also, I very much doubt it!

I appreciate you setting the record straight and thank you for your congratulations.

I think you're not quite getting things right here Anthony. I had no idea who won the auction when I said that - you do understand that, right? It was a comment on a price paid for a figure - it happens every day on here and every other SW forum. Heck, every other collecting forum.

Re-read the thread - you hadn't said "hey guys I won this auction - look", to which I replied "you ****ing mug". I appreciate there is a layer of reading between the lines when we're online, but you're making your own lines and filling them in yourself, with twaddle. There was no lack of respect, because I had no idea anybody on the forum even won the Jawa, let alone you.

There is a whole ebay sub forum on here - full of people saying '****ing hell, look what that guy wants for this' or 'look what some idiot paid for that'. I assume you'd sooner that forum was closed down, in case it hurts your sensibilities if you happen to be a bidder, or the underbidders?

If you want to overpay for stuff, thats your prerogative, totally. I'm sure you're getting offered some great stuff now.

Lighten up Anthony FFS What's the world coming to if you can't take the piss out a man who has just spent two and half grand on a f@cking jawa?!

Hi Everyone

Obviously I do not understand how things work on here as I have only recently joined. I presumed that Max knew I was the winning bidder as he made his comment on a post that I started. I was clearly wrong about this so please excuse my cynical mind, Ingnorance and lack of basic intelligence.

Before I create any more arguments could somebody tell me what would be an acceptable bid for the Leia Hoth 30 Back on Ebay (what would be a Non Mug Bid).

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

I am happy for you to take the Piss out of me as much as you like as I understand the humour.

I do not expect to get on with everyone on this site. Palitoyman (Richard) offered me a 30 back B Hoth Stormtrooper for £6000 this is a classic example of someone taking the piss in a non humorous way and Suprise Suprise I take offence to this. I also feel Max is taking the piss in a non humorous way also hence some of my responses!

I have heard lots of criticism of dealers but not much of collectors are they not also responsible for trying to push prices up?

Thanks

Anthony

I wouldn't ask on a forum which might have the seller and your competitors reading. Free, actual advice - although I'm not sure if you're trolling now.

How was I taking the piss in a 'non humerous way'? i answered each of your many, many, questions as helpfully as I could - read back, it's true.

Then one comment on the price paid for a jawa (remember, I did a u-turn and congratulated you on your shrewd purchase and good price) and you're all uppity.

Good luck with the Leia hoth.

To Wreck-It Ralph,

I certainly don't appreciate you mentioning me in such a way, I tried to help you but never expected to get £6k for the figure, the 30 Back 'B' Hoth Trooper is far rarer than the 30 back 'A' version and what you will realise is that finding Palitoy 30 back MOC's is extremely difficult unless you are lucky enough to come across someone 'selling up'.

I will be honest with you, from speaking to quite a few other collectors, you are starting to go on a bit too much about all of this, you have asked all the questions you need to at great length, surely you have an idea of what is tough to find and what is not, if you are bidding on the Leia Hoth on Ebay good luck, this will give you an indication on a tough Palitoy 30 back, you will need to go big to get it though!!!

I genuinely think the funniest thing on here is the complaint about having had a WTB since January and not getting a response.
Some people will have had WTBs for far easier to obtain items for months. Collecting these items isn't like going to Amazon to pick up a DVD or a book, alot of items cannot simply be bought on a whim no matter how much money you have.
Five things apart from money will get you what you want in this hobby.

i) patience
ii) luck
iii) time invested learning
iv) making friends and contacts
And the big one
v) don't be a cock

Try and manage that and I'm sure you'll be fine, banging on about wanting something htf, mint, now and being willing to pay will lead to people offering you items but you're hardly likely to get the deal of the century. To then publically criticise aforementioned offer (which in this case may or may not be overpriced, I have no idea) isn't really that smart as future offers are likely to dry up because you're being a cock.

Thanks for that lejackal, you make a great point on collecting as well, I've found being in the right place at the right time (Luck), but most importantly making friends and contacts is vital, a lot of my collection has not come off Ebay but through some really good guys who Ive got to know pretty well, we know what each other is looking out for so help each other.

I was disappointed with Wreck-It Ralph as I was trying to help him acquire some Palitoy stuff, again, through my conatcts, I won't be helping him anymore now.

This is sound advice that should be in any new member's induction / introductory email.

It was intended as a joke so rightly it was taken as one. If you need validation from others for prices you decide to pay then you're going to be disappointed; 99.9% % of the human race would not spend 5 quid, let alone 2 grand on what is ultimately a small, brown mass-produced lump of plastic - and a fair few would consider you certifiable for doing so. So probably best not worry about what other people think, take it on the chin and enjoy whatever it is you've paid for IMO I don't see how Max is taking the piss - everything he said seems very reasonable to me. And sellers have got the right to offer to sell at whatever prices they decide for their own stuff... You can take it or leave it, so no need to call people out over it.
