Palitoy 12 & 20 Back Questions?

Maybe I have been overly sensitive to Max's comment and if I have then I apologise, hopefully we can still be friends and I will try to be less sensitive in future!

Richard (Palitoyman) is a different story he approached me offering a Palitoy 30 Back B Hoth Stormtrooper for £6000 which I declined for obvious reasons. He then immediately dropped the price to £3500 to a new collector who was obviously lacking in Knowledge. I will leave the Star Wars community to decide whether his actions are right or wrong.

Kind Regards

Anthony

Cool. I sent you a pm.

Wreck-It Ralph,

You are right that I did offer you a chance to buy the figure, that I could be persuaded to sell at the right price and the £6k would have been the right price for me, the £3500 you mention is more in line with its current value, as far as dropping the price to a new collector without any knowledge, I just have no idea who you are talking about as the figure was only offered to you as a gesture. I've been in this game long enough to know that everything does have a price and that would have been mine for the figure in question.

I guess Anthony meant he was the new collector without any knowledge. IMO it seems risky to me (to put it politely) that anyone would spend thousands on anything that they aren't very knowledgeable about.

Back on topic, I think it's probably time for a change in rarity for some of the Palitoy figures, post-vectis.

I know it's easy to relate back to how rare or common figures used to be (Jawa being a great example) but with the amount of sales and new collectors who never had the opportunity to collector Palitoys in the past but who now have big collections after the rep find, it's pretty clear that the relative rarities have changed a bit.

Purely from memory, I think Luke and Chewie are no longer out on their own as the hardest two to find, I think Leia and Ben in particular have joined that list as there were much fewer of these up for grabs than Luke and Chewie which were relatively common. There seemed to be a Luke and Chewie in every auction for a while, much less so Ben. From info in this thread and others, Ben could easily be a rare as those two now. SDC, Stormtrooper, R2, 3PO, Tusken got more common, plenty of those around, SDCs are everywhere after the box find. Somewhere in the middle sit Vader, Jawa and Han. I think I'm right in saying that there was never a Jawa for sale at Vectis, and without knowing how many there were I've first place it's kind of difficult to know exactly how many there might be now. The fact it's selling for around 3x the value of the common five means it's got to be considered as hard to find now, and has definitely moved away from being a more common one.

20s are probably easy to work out. There were loads of Luke X and very few Power Droids (1?) and DSDs. So the common one got even more common, and the rarer two got rarer. Easy :D I can't remember how many R5s there were, I'd guess at a small number so maybe that's as you'd expect as well.

30as are easy as well. The 5 easier ones - Lando, HH, Leia Bespin, Luke Bespin and HRS were plentiful, there were a couple of Hoth Stormtroopers and virtually nothing else. So the common got more common, and the rare got rarer. As you'd expect.

Double post.

Pretty much spot on although I believe there was one Jawa in the recent Vectis auctions but it is one out of however many other 12 backs making it uncommon. It's a good point at how times have changed and the Vectis auctions did seem to flood the market with options for a while but it's close to drying up now so who knows how long it will be until these pieces see the light of day again or a new find is found.

As I've said in this whole thread it's up to the buyer to decide what value they put on something and as long as they're happy with it that's all that matters. It's crazy to think that this thread has ended up with more pages than some of the baggie scandal related pages but sometimes that's how it goes (although shame on you Jeff for going so quiet! ). I'm hoping everything's calmed down relating to this thread as I know Anthony was maybe a little sensitive in places but he is a newbie just trying to learn and many of us have had years to get used to the way things are run on here. It's a place of few rules but there is an unspoken way of contacting oneself and it can take a little while to figure that out.

Look forward to seeing peoples focuses grow as the more vintage collectors out there the better I think as it's nice to know that these old items are being looked after and cared for.

Double post as well

I blame the forums! l

After being offered the three for £15k and then a 30b for £6k I'm sure Anthony (and many others) now realise that the sharks circle on the forums as well as in other places and to be aware of wolves in sheeps clothing ...

That's a really fair and interesting comment - and I think you're right. Palitoy 12bks were always split into 2 groups, with 5 'hard ones (Luke, Leia, Chewie, Ben and Han - with Chewie and Luke being the hardest) and 7 'easy' ones (Jawa, R2, 3PO, DSD, Vader, Stormtrooper and Sandpeople).

While that is probably true still, the relativity must have changed - I bet Ben is up there with Luke and Chewie now, and Jawa is in the 'tough' group now.

Does anybody have a list of how many of each figure Vectis sold through the rep sale?

Before I create any more arguments could somebody tell me what would be an acceptable bid for the Leia Hoth 30 Back on Ebay (what would be a Non Mug Bid).

Thank you in advance for your assistance.
