Palitoy 12 & 20 Back Questions?

I think people seem to forget that these are the current prices for sought after items , we all like to think of the prices from back in the day and compare them to it and from that point of view they are ridiculous now days but that's just score now , I'm guilty of doing the same ! Saying oh I wouldn't pay that for that but you all know what it's like when you really want something you just gotta have it lol

You know that's an incredible price for a Jawa. You've been around a while and know how rare they really are. This one had tears to the card and will grade a 75 at best imo - so £2600 seems incredibly high.

I've overpaid for plenty before and am sure I will again - but generally when I'm called on it (which happens) say 'yeah, well I wanted it and didn't want to wait any longer for one' rather than get all uppity.

I don't care what people spend. However when something sells for way more than it should (imo) I'm sure as hell going to comment on it. Lack of comments regarding prices is part of what is allowing them to continue rising unchecked.

My point was that it was an open auction ,so obviously one person thought it was worth £2,500 and someone else thought it was worth £2,600 .
And also as you said it was a mugs price which I presume is because the buyer overpaid(in your opinion) that would make mugs out of practically everyone in the hobby.
I have paid above so called market value for items I really wanted as have most in the hobby.

I totally understand NIck's Point of View, he's a dealer he wants prices to be driven up, I get that. However most on this forum are true collectors and don't want to sell their soul to get the pieces they desire. The rich can pay as much as they want and hoover up pieces at a fantastical rate but I promise you they won't get as much of a thrill at landing a rare piece at a reasonable price as the rest of us.

Sadly these days it's less of a level playing field than ever. :(

Hold on a minute, what sort of a statement is that ,you've sold more items than me on here.
And I have been a collector for over 25 years, yes I sell but then so do loads of people.that fact that some people seem to be stuck "back in the day" is their issue not mine.It seems to me the "collecting spirit " seems to be rolled it when it suits.

I might have sold more than you mate but let's talk about the profit margin shall we!!! I sold mainly Jedi figures £50-£100 and made very little profit I promise you. You're selling 12 backs for thousands with lots of flipping. Not sure you can compare there mate!! Maybe you're keeping the wrong company!

Does anyone know what the highest price a jawa has hit in the last 3 years on a public auction?

Or what the average price has been?

What have I flipped, and what is your definition of flipping, all the 12 backs I have sold have been in storage for years how is that flipping,
As for the company I keep I sense some sour grapes there?

So you're telling me those Luke X-WIng 20 backs you keep churning out for example aren't the same ones that Ian won at Vectis from the Palitoy rep sale??

I've never tried to keep that a secret ,I bought them off Ian and decided to sell some.
That's up to me .
Have you never bought something off someone and sold it at a profit?
People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
I'm not really interested in getting into some big argument,so have a nice day

The funny thing is I was actually defending your opinion. Star Wars is a lot of different things to a lot of different people. You clearly provide a great service to the "high end buyer", good on you. But that is chalk and cheese to most of the people on this forum. I've nothing against Ian he's a business man trying to make maximum profit without any great love for Star Wars. That's fine. But it's tough to take when not particularly rare pieces going way out of the normal collector's reach.

Fair enough,if I've come across as too defensive I apologise.

I'm sure that's appreciated. Not many people do that online these days.

What irks me isn't when a rare figure goes for £10k or £20k or £100k - that kind of thing is great to see and even be involved perhaps. It's when the 'market' has allowed a relatively common figure in not great condition to fetch £2600, which is a lot of money no matter how wealthy you might be.

A set of palitoy 12 backs shouldn't be the preserve of the CEO, given how many have been sold over the last 2 years. Yet these prices are considered the norm by many - when actually, IMO, they are simply down to a few people having more money than patience and an increase in the 'I want it now' culture - which isn't just in SW, it's in everything.

I'd love to see prices fall. I have a ton of money 'invested' in SW - but I'd sooner prices fell so I can buy more. I'm not sure many feel like that these days!

Hi Everyone

If I knew the Jawa was going to create so many arguments I would never have bid on it!

My highest bid was £2600 and the highest counter bid was £2550, I dont know who the under bidder was but I am sure he would not appreciate some of the earlier comments relating to the price paid.

I have had a post on this site since early January saying I am looking to buy a Palitoy Jawa at market price and recieved no responses.

I have spoken to some very knowledgeable people on this site about values of Palitoy Jawa's and have been told the last graded one sold for £2500 cash with a graded Vinyl Jawa putting the value of the figure at £3500+

I have also been offered (by a collector, not a dealer) a graded Jawa, Ben and Chewbacca for £15,000 which I thought was excessive and declined it.

My question to everyone is if I had not bid on this item were else would I get one from?

Maybe I am a Mug by buying that figure as I have no idea what it will grade at but I bought it because I love Star Wars and I want it in my collection.

Thank you for all the people who congratuliated me and came to my support.

I would very much like to be part of this community as most people have been very helpfull and accomodating to me.

Kind Regards

Anthony

Congratulations on the purchase.

That's what the forum is about, discussion not necessary arguments, everyone have a different view.

The price is what you paid for it, but can't help that you were always aiming for the perfect and high grade item. As it has been pointed out by Max this one actually has some litho tear and may not grade as highly as you think.

The name of the game here is being patience, you said you have been looking for a Palitoy Jawa since January, that's only 6 weeks, I have been waiting for a few items for 4-5 years and some people may even be looking for longer. Remember the fun is in the chase once you get it the fun is over.

Keep us posted if you get it graded and look forward to your Palitoy run!

I don't think any of my wants ads on here have received any meaningful replies - they certainly haven't lead to many gaps in my collection being filled! January was only 2 weeks ago! It's not even Valentine's Day yet.

You're taking all this very personally - I don't know you, I didn't know you won the auction, frankly I don't care what you bought or what you buy. I thought, and still do think, the jawa went for a very high price. It was a public auction and this is a public forum - I'm allowed to say that.

Slow and steady wins this race.

Andy, to put the record straight, Nick acts as an agent for me and yes he moves some low, mid range and high end items, some of which are mine, as for his profit margin, well to be fair if you think I give people £1000s in commission you are living in dream world, obviously you don't know me at all.

In exchange for all his good advice, pricing items and finding me clients and doing deals, I give him the chance to upgrade his own collection, exchange items with me and basically make it all work for the both of us, after 20+ years of knowing Nick, I would class him as extremely fair and honest and someone who has a great passion for the product and also the hobby.

As for the LXWs, Nick found me a very high end, non SW item which I had a customer for, instead of me paying him for it, I agreed to give him 3 X LXWs for it, after he sold all 3 of them, he then wanted to buy another 3 off me, as he had given me some excellent advice on a few items I wanted to sell, I felt a bit obliged to let him have them.

Finally for all of you, remember one thing, this is a business for me, I have never pretented to be a collector. I offer a great product, great after sales service and a no hesistation money back guarantee on any product within 28 days.

I basically sell quality.

Congratulations on your purchase Anthony.

I've seen people for many, many years give their opinions about prices on many collectable products, then two years later, they have to eat their own words as the item in question has trebled in price.

The great thing is you could put that Jawa in another auction next month and it could sell for £4500......people wouldn't be so quick to call you a mug then, would they.... :D

My perception has always been, enjoy life to the full and if want to buy something and you have the cash, just go for it, lifes too short to worry..
