latest film/ dvd you have seen

Watched hunger games the other night. It's ok. Far too long tho. They could easily cut 40 mins out of the first half and it wouldn't take anything away from the quality of the film, in fact quite the opposite.
It does have that stench of a fantastic idea that's been murdered by a committee somewhere. I haven't read the books so i don't know how true it is to them, but the film is just too 'Hollywood' for my liking.

Don't diss the hunger games :)

Anyway watched a few recently.
Men in Black 3 - actually surprised at how good and enjoyable this was, good fun.

Margin call - again great actors bring true tension to a tightly written film, well worth a watch.

Batman the dark knight rises part 1 - this is the DC animated film and aside from Peter Wheeler doing the voice (not Kevin Conroy :() but this is a great film very true to the frank miller story and so well done, can't wait for part 2 early next year.

and a million times better than Quantum of Shite.

I agree with the comments about The Hunger Games, good but not that good.

Quantum? well i guess every one was a bit disappointed particularly after Casino Royale. Having said that, i recently watched it again with a load of work lads crammed around a laptop with a decent pair of speakers and it was actually much better than i thought. A grower maybe. Give it another go Weaz

Just saw Sleepwalk with me, a really good little film, being very surprised by the film industry now,
gems are popping up everywhere, 2 treasures in just one week, that must be a new record!

Watched The Hobbit last night. I was expecting it to be not as exciting as LOTR, but thoroughly enjoyed the first installment. The Hobbit is a childrens book and I remember reading it when I was about 14-15 and loved the story back then.

A couple things were drawn out too long though
The gathering of the dwarfs at Baggins house went on too long and the scene with the Golem and the riddles was one riddle too much for me, apart from that can't wait for the next part :)

Jumping on the Hobbit train. Just got back from the IMAX, wasn't convinced by the 3D, not really needed in my opinion. The film was great, beautifully made, acted, shot, everything you would expect really, some lovely interplay with the established LoRTs trilogy and sets up what is too come nicely. All that nonsense about the frame rate is just that, nonsense, it looks stunning on screen.

Watch this film...

Also watched Killer Joe and Ice Age 4 on DVD this weekend gone, couldn't get two more different films there :)

Joe is ****ed up, an absorbing watch for sure but just not right in the head.
ice Age was great fun, any film that can get dinosaurs, mammoths and pirates in one film has to be good :)

The hobbit- some great pieces like lord if the rings mixed with the poor moments of Indy 4. 3 stars with 5 star moments. Dissapointed.

Saw Hobbit on Friday night. I thought it was really good. You could cut 45 mins from its run time quite easily, but Peter Jackson has as good as said he knew he would never be back "in middle earth" so he wanted to do as much as he could.
I'd prefer to have the films this way than have huge chunks cut out.

Agree on the bit with the Dwarves at the start, and the riddles does drag on a bit. Other than that really good. Can't wait for the next one.

Watched a few films this last couple of weeks.

21 Jump St - **½
Funny in parts but broad and simple comedy for the most part. We've seen it all before.

Shame - ***
Not as good as i thought it was gonna be. Good performances, well shot etc, just not that interesting a story.

The Bourne Legacy - **½
Everything in this is done well enough i just couldn't see the point of it. The premise was weak and in order to make things seem more interesting than they were the story was spun in the most confusing and bitty manor (like many bad thrillers and action movies these days. "Let's make it needlessly complex and maybe they'll think it's good"). Some fun to watch sequences but a largely pointless and hollow movie.

The Station Agent - ****
Loved this simple little "small town america" indie film about a dwarf (not the christmas type the real type) who inherits a small disused train depot. Well written and acted. A unique and quirky movie about almost nothing at all.

Looper - ***
There's a really good film somewhere in here trying to get out. I'm just not sure it did. Can't really explain why. The cast is excellent and the concept interesting. Delivered well enough but i wasn't blown away. Just entertained.

Men In Black III - ***
Much better than i thought it was going to be. It got slated and i can't really understand why. It is what it is. I didn't expect anything more from it. What it did it did well enough. The story was probably one of the stronger of the 3 films. It was funny in parts and well paced with a decent ending to boot. I just think the franchise is a little tired now. Time to move on.

Troll Hunter - ****
Excellent Norwegian B-movie/indie movie about a group of youngsters making a movie-project about some local bear killings who end up investigating and following a hunter who turns out to not be hunting bears at all...!!
A great watch.

Prometheus - ***½
Not completely sure what i thought of this yet. Might need to give it a 2nd watch. It was good. Beautifully made/shot/directed etc but the story wasn't as strong as i'd hoped.

'Kon-Tiki'

I really enjoyed this movie, its a true story about Norwegian Thor Heyerdal trying to prove South American's travelled to and settled Polynesia.

'The King is Dead'

Absolute gem of a film from Australia about a very tolerant couple who have a very dodgy neighbour. Some great performances in this film.

Not been for ages.

Last film I saw was the avengers.

Bit of a waste having one of the cineworld passes!!

Definitely on for going to see the Hobbit. Loved LOTR!!

Just watching 'barbarella'. I dont think i've ever seen a bird as bangable as Jane Fonda in this film

Just watched the last episode of Homeland Season 2, very good.

Give Quantom of Solace another go, I recently watched it for a second time with a group of lads and it was really enjoyable.

Is the Hobbit appropriate for my 7 year old son? I recently watched the LOTR Trilogy with him, he loved it, some bits were a bit scary for him though. But whilst things may be ok on a TV at home, decapitation will naturally be a bit more intense on a cinema screen. He really wants to watch it, so do I.

Oh recently watched "Special Forces" on love film. Mega cheesey title but surprisingly good film (French, with subtitles)
