latest film/ dvd you have seen

I thought inception was a cleverly made film. I really had to watch carefully but understood it all. The end result leonardo got stuck in limbo land for good his fault really as his wife wanted to get out but he wanted to stay in and then she killed her self blah blahhh.

I am sick of films lately they are all shite apart from recently watched jackass 2 and 3 which made me belly laugh!
The best BEST recent film of recent time in a good long time for me is Shutter Island what a brilliant film again with an ending not everyone got

Think i'm going to go and see 'Sucker Punch' in the couple of days, anyone seen it yet?
The trailers look ****in awesome but they dont always mean its a decent film ....

It's been absolutely slated Rich. It is supposed to be awful which is a shame as I really like the director - he did 300 and Watchmen. Both very good films and I know Watchmen annoyed a lot of people but I honeslty thought he did an amazing job on what was described as unfilmable.

Watched Unthinkable and Reign over me today. Both very good films

Seen these recently -

Tron Legacy - 2.5/5
Excellent sound track, dazzling effects but poor story and dull, instantly forgettable characters. Could be a 3 out of 5 but i'm feeling stingy. The story is just not good enough and dazzling effects are 10 a penny nowadays so it's a given to get that bit right in my opinion.

The Other Guys - 1.5/5
Not funny or good at all. Nothing good to say about this. Don't waste your time.

9 - 3.5/5
Beautiful and original animation set in a post apocalyptic world where humans have been wiped out by machines. 80% perfect but lacking a good ending.

Grown Ups - 1.5/5
This rather pointless film (a given when Rob Schneider is one of the cast), lacks direction and ends up being a rather clumsy "funny" contest between several of Hollywoods best second rate comedic actors.
Rob Schneider, for once, is not actually the worst thing about the movie...
...i'm kidding, of course he is but it's a close run contest with Sandler, Rock and Spade all bottoming out.
1 or 2 well hidden laughs don't save this tiresome movie from it's inevitable descent into the bottomless pit of mediocre, one watch hollywood comedies.

Due Date - 3/5
Simple and not completely original but entertaining and, at times, very funny. Let down slightly by Downey Jr's unusually dislikable character and a thinish script. Jack Galifianakis shines.

Machete - 3.5/5
My kind of movie! It's not clever or complex but it doesn't pretend to be. All out ass-kicking, limb lopping off, machete brandishing, gun shooting goodness. Like the good old cheesy, ultra violent, beat-em-up movies of the 70 & 80s. This is very tongue in cheek and not to be taken too seriously. At times it's very funny and completely over the top but doesn't quite fall fully into the spoof category which was a smart move as it wouldn't have worked.
Very much a guy's movie and won't be for everyone but for those who this lust after a bit of blood splattered bad-guys vs good guy action movie- this won't disappoint.

Human Centipede - 1/5
I like a good horror and the more twisted the better but this is just vile and to no end. The story is awful and plays out absurdly leaving screaming at the tv at the sheer absurdity of some of the utterly unbelievable decisions made by the characters. The odd moment of genuine creepiness and terror will entertain the ill of mind but these don't save it as a horror and the plot fails it as a thriller. Sadistic curiosity will keep you watching to the end but you may be sorry you did.

Robin Hood - 1.5/5
Doesn't work on any level. So boring. Turned what is supposed to be a playful, swashbuckling fantasy into an arduous, dull, lifeless, long (oh god it's so long!) fun vacuum. Even for a medieval, period drama (which is what this version is) this is slow going. Filled with long winded, hard to follow convoluted, dialogue where a better film would have inserted a decent plot.
This charmless film goes against everything the tale of Robin Hood stands for and misses the point completely. Trying to sophisticate Robin Hood, rather like deciding to have an informative lecture and cucumber sandwiches at a child's birthday party as opposed to a clown and ice-cream.

100% agree with you Pete. I thought this film was soooooooooo poor. I went with my brothers to see this and we were all so hungover that I think at one point we were all asleep in the cinema

 Man, i wouldn't have stuck with it in a cinema. I watched it on download i was soooooo bored. Almost anything is better than this.

Interesting point there Pete. I've never walked out of a film at the cinema - I don't really know hwy as i've turned off plenty of dvd's due to them being **** but i've never walked out of a movie. When we went to see the Charlie and the Chocolate factory remake my mate walked out about 30 minutes in and went and got pissed in the bar.

I wish I had walked out of some movies though, really do. The ones that come to mind are:
Shoot 'em up
Daredevil
Moulin Rouge
Be Cool
Avatar

No i've never walked out either. I suppose once you've spent the money you feel you ought to stick it out. Having said that i rarely go to the cinema anymore. Films just don't warrant the expenditure these days. Go about once a year.

Bit of a pisser about Sucker Punch, i'll have to see if i can find it on the cheap then.....
I'm having a bit of a WW2 theme to the films i'm watching at the moment so i watched Cross of Iron again the other night and have the original version of Stalingrad to watch tonight.

Just to add to what has already been said, I've heard sucker-punch is god awful as well. So probably one to avoid.

Ohh and I have walked out of the cinema before, the film was that bad I can't even remember what it was.

Yeah you can't beat a good WW2 film! A Bridge Too Far is one my favourites, i have fond memories of watching that film when i was a kid with my Dad not that long before he died. Good times :)

A bridge too far :D class film
Slightly off topic but i have been to the airfield where the polish paratroops took off from for Market Garden, its called Spanhoe just outside Corby. We were there in 2005 for the marking of the 60th anniversary of VE day with one of my other hobbys- ww2 re-enactment.
Anyway, back to films has anyone seen Fanboys? as it was on special offer in HMV the other and may pick it up if its worth a watch.

I've seen the graveyards at Oosterbeek (outside Arnhem) and a fair few others across Belgium and Holland. Very humbling places, and even for a self confessed heartless bastard like me, incredibly moving.

You've just inspired me to start another thread.........

I finally got around to watching 127 hours.

Its actually ok, and i didnt get bored, i wouldnt watch it again but he must have been brave to do what he did :)

Just watched Thor today and enjoyed it. Wasn't how I thought it would be.

And as always ..... stay till after the credits for a weird cameo from Samuel L

Went to see that there "Source Code"

It's ok. The ending totally ruins the film, so if you do go, do yourself a favour and walk out ten mins before the end.

I saw Hereafter which is awful. Green Hornet which was average. Some fun bits but very linear.
I watched Megamind which was good fun. And The Kids are All Right which was actually quite good but not the amazing film the critics made it out to be.

That where he has to cut his arm off after getting it crushed by a rock? I didn't mind that either.
