Those transparencies are very cool . Love that stuff .

As you said :This preproduction stuff is bloody addictive! I can only say yes to that mate :)

Ps. I think you can expect a pm from Johan on the cloud Car picture:)

Hm, wouldn't it be the other way round? The slides being from the camera and these get scaled up again? Hmmm... Who has info about this? I remember my parents having all their pics on slides (and later polaroid too). I'm into photography as well, but not "vintage". ;)

But you may well be right...

I reckon the transparencies are the source material- and you can see the teeth on the sides of the transparencies as if that's what the camera grips to pull it through.
I think the slides were used for an OH style projector/ slide show. I am only guessing though tbh. I will be doing some research this weekend- I can remember an awesome thread on rs where the original photographer came on and discussed the use and purpose of these items.

There is a little write up here on transparencies - http://theswca.com/images-misc/transparencies.html

I am not sure which came first really as I am not up on photography but if we look at the size of the slides compared to a normal camera roll of film the size is very similar, its possible slides are just normal camera roll encased into the plastic supports that go into the projectors and that transparencies are blown up versions (kind of pre development stage? no idea)

Ed is correct that the slides would have been used on those projector machines I would imagine, perhaps during meetings at Kenner to show how things were progressing or what designs were being looked at. A lot of pictures were taken at Kenner, everything was photographed, concepts, prototypes, production figures, artwork, you name it!

Cloudcity had a load of slides available a few years back, they were on the site for as little as $15 each, I think several transparencies were among the items on offer too.

I am really surprised to see so many up on RS at the moment, Nick has uncovered a lot and Ross C mentioned he had about 200 in his collection, there were also some listed on ebay as well..Slide/transparency madness!

Some choice scores everyone. I can only imagine what the RS thread could look like if everyone participated as much

I really love the transparencies. If you ever get some prints made of them Ed, I would love a couple that I could frame up.

Love that A-wing photo Edd :D

These came today, got them just for the luke stormtrooper who is now my 2nd (looking for 2 helmets now)

Thanks Joe, when I googled for the slides last week I found a link to theswca as well, but when I clicked on it, it said the content cannot be found or something like that. Just found I hab bookmarked it: http://theswca.com/index.php?action=disp_item&item_id=3462, if you search for this link on google you see that the title of this article was "35mm Slide". (https://www.google.de/#hl=de&gs_nf=...gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=cc2054ede1a6bf96)

But I had a talk with my father who is a hobby photographer since the 60ies/70ies and he says there's no doubt about it, the slides are "the 1st step in the development process", so the transparencies are in fact copies of the 35mm slides.

And you can imagine that I had a big smile on my face when these lil pieces were in the post this morning. Not only because of how great they are, but especially because Ed posted his pics in the morning and we were discussing while I received them.

They look like **** on my photos, in person they are even much, MUCH better than I had imagined.

A little information about them:
The Max Rebo Band one is very interesting as it contains one of my focus characters, Lando Skiff. This is the picture that was used for the production Max Rebo box, but Lando Skiff was edited out and Sy Snootles was edited into the spot where Lando was.

On the Jabba playset pic you can clearly see ol' Squiddy with a black cape and golden belt.

The pic of the Ewok village has a Boushh in it. That's why I had to get it. :)

If you have any info on where the Jabba close up/Ewok Playset pics were used, please let me know.

By the way, this is not the last of me you'll see this weekend... 8) But I wanted to get these online ASAP as we were discussing about these items a lil.

Those are some great slides there buddy :)
And I stand corrected!
Have you had any more thoughts on how to display them?

Well, I will have another chat with my father about the slides. I think displaying them might not be a good idea, I think the reason why they still are in perfect shape is because they were professionally stored in the last 30 years. I think they need to be stored in the dark.

Really loving those slides Dennis. Very cool.

The first 2 things that came to mind when i saw the Jabba slide were these 2 items.
I don't think either is right but it might jog someone's memory.

The shots on these items look similar, especially the first one, but no. The arms are in a different position.

Anyhow, maybe this particular slide I have was never used for any item at all.

Thanks. :)

4 seems to be the number of the day for me.

First 4 slides.

Now a warm welcome to 4 new Ledys.
