Jedi_masters is running the London Marathon 2014

Good luck Chris it will be a fantastic effort. Having watched Jr do it a couple of times my advice to you is tape up those nipples

Your getting the training in nice and early so I reckon you'll whizz round :)

Are you going to represent and wear the forum tshirt?

Nice work Chris, keep up the effort. If you haven't already got one investing an Ipod. Once you get up to 2 hour training runs you'll really need one....Boring a Feck otherwise.

I'm running the Birmingham Half Marathon in a couple of weeks time. Was hoping for a PB but with the Limited amount of training I've been doing (man flu, Holiday, Family & Work commitments) I'm not too optimistic.

On the Bright side it's the same day as my Birthday so I'll be having a few celebrator beers afterwards no matter what. :D

I was thinking about this but I am either going to wear a proper running top or I want to have one printed with quite a few things on it. I want to get one done with a pic of my dad on it, the name of my charity nice and big in the middle and I do want to get SWFUK on there somewhere.

On the fence about an ipod at the moment. I quite like running without one at the moment. I like the noise of the traffic going by (weird I know) and knowing me I would run out in front of a car because I didn't hear it!!

But saying that I am only at 5.5 miles at the moment so we will see how I feel when I'm running 10+!!

Good luck with the Brighton half marathon. I'm sure you'll still do an impressive time even with minimal training.

Got to back up Rebel Runner on this one, once you are running for over 3 hours the music helps. I hate running with headphones myself Chris, like you say its nice to take in the sounds around you and its also safer but once you hit 2 1/2 - 3hrs boredom can hit you and music can be a good motivator.

I do not understand people who use headphones on the day of the race itself though, the atmosphere is incredible and you are only missing out if you are listening to music while running one of the biggest races in the world.

Listening to Music when running is a very personal thing.

I don't bother myself, same as you guys I prefer to be aware of my surroundings. Plus it can mess up your pacing if you're doing a particular type of session. And I defiantly wouldn't wear one on race day.

But for those long 2hr+ solo runs it can help motivate you to an extent.

Also, unless you want to sandpaper your nipples off, don't for the love of God run in your SWFUK t-shirt. Get a proper running vest or one of those moister wicking base layers.

Update.

Just upped again to 6.62 miles from 5.5. Ran in 1 hour bang on. Still running at 10 minute mile pace at the moment. Hope to get a bit quicker as training progresses. Very pleased!!

Def right Chris and Rebel Runner, music needed. Not bored but for motivation really.

I have a couple of prize's ready to show which I will do tomorrow. Prob open the comp in the new year but by all means put a donation in now, minimum £5, hope you don't mind me stating a minimum. I will keep record of names to make guess' at my total marathon time.

Update on first page with a pick of the first prize I have ready for the comp. I think there will be 5 - 7 prize's by the end.

Up to 8.2 miles now in 1hr 20mins. Snagged myself a Garmin Forerunner on ebay this week, love it already.

Cheers guys so far for all your support so far.

Awesome mate keep up the excellent progress.

The Forerunner is a great bit of kit, it will revolutionise your training.

Great stuff Chris - I need to start up again - miss it.

Funny you mentioning the ipod, it's a must for me but I run with headphones rather than in ear - can't hear a thing
apart from my feet hitting the ground - I run in the woods though! no roads which is lucky I suppose

Have you had any niggling aches or pains?

5.5 miles tonight. Running a new pair of shoes in so didn't want to go too far.

Andy, no aches or pains that have really troubled me. I sometimes get mild shin splints but they usually wear off while I'm running. I mainly run on pavement as there isn't really a lot of woodland routes I can do in a loop from my house.

Went to Sweatshop today to take advantage of their free GAIT analasys. Found that I over probate so now have the right shoes for my feet. Did feel much better running tonight. Next purchase, headphones!!!

Sounds like everything is sound Chris.

I haven't been jogging for about a month but still have a tender achilles tendon - any tips?

Going good Chris, careful with those shins/calfs though. I remember shin splints from first time around, could be a few things causing it... Keep a check on it, running it of works for some but not for others.

Little update.

I know you are all getting bored of this thread by now, but hey, I like to keep you all informed for your well educated guess' at a total marathon time!! :D

Ran 9 miles tonight, furthest I have run so far, well chuffed!!! :D Ran in a time of 1hr 25 minutes. Wanted to hit 10 miles but legs didn't have it in them tonight to go further.

Martin has informed me he is busy progressing with the other 2 painting so as soon as they are ready they will be up as prizes. Also need to dig out the MOC I am putting up.

Cheers guys.

Good Going Chris,
Great prize from martin, would love to see the others.
I will dig out a good prize and can give at FF4 when we have a date.
Andy

Bored? Balderdash and poppycock!

A Herculean effort, but do hinder the advice from others; don't be pushing yourself too hard. You've made tremendous progress already, my good fellow. You're at a good level so early on in the game, keep at it; but don't burn yourself out.

I'll give you a nod as soon as the next canvas is ready.

To the Good People of this forum:

Just a thought: whilst April's London Marathon is 'next year' and seems a vey long way away, now is the right time to make your willingness to join in this competition and make your support known to Chris. Not only by way of well wishes, but by the action of parting with your hard earned cash :D just a couple of quid chucked this way:

http://www.justgiving.com/Chris-Mann2

will 'give him wings' (no doubt), for want of a better phrase!

Come on SWFUKers, dig deep for those coins down the back of the sofa

Bored! Never. I never grow tired of watching someone suffer the pain of marathon training.

Mate 9 miles this far out from the race is a great place to be. Just remember at the moment pace and distance don't matter too much it's mainly all about time on your feet to get your legs used to the relentless pounding they will be taking come Rae day.

Also, not every run needs to be long. At this stage you really need to be running little and often. So I would recommend throwing in 2/3 short and slow runs of about 25mins on the days inbetween your longer runs. Aim to run 6 days out of 7 each week. It's a tried an tested formula and will help you keep those injuries at bay.

I'll drop you a few quid, and if you beat your target time ill double it :D

Keep up the good work.
