Purchased a large collection from a chap on the RS boards.

All arrived OK and the figures were in great shape.Trouble was that most of the Last 17 weapons were either repro or the wrong colour or both. Guy has denied that they are repros and just sent me this in an email

"I am confident that I didn't send you any repro weapons, as I am sure Palitoy didn't pack repro weapons with the figures... and the dealer I purchased from was way before the days of the net and obtained his stuff locally... however as neither of us videoed the stuff going into or coming out of the box it is one word against the other in the matter of how genuine they are."

Basically, I know they are repros and would be happy to post up some pictures but not sure that is going to help me here as the guy is so certain that they are not (and seemingly suggesting that I might have switched them)

I am missing the following from him

Luke Stormtrooper - should have a black stormtrooper blaster but only a light blue one packed
A-Wing Pilot - should have a black endor blaster but only a repro black one packed
Imperial Gunner - should have a black endor blaster but only a repro blue one packed
Warok - repro bow packed
Lumat - repro bow packed

In addition he also sent a repro Ewok Spear with the Paploo, no Blaster for Luke poncho and 1 additional repro Blue Stormtrooper Blaster

I am not really sure how to play this as I have never really had a problem with a purchase from either RS or here before.

**** Iain.
Gut feeling is the same as Todd's.
Not sure what you can do though. It may genuinely come down to your word against his.
Did they come from the US?

He is from the UK and I have never seen him on the sales threads until recently - not going to name him yet as still hoping I can sort this

Well at the end of the day, your probably the most honest seller around and you probably see more loose weapons in 1 month that Ive seen in 18 years.

Maybe one of the MODs could help or give advice. They might know him/her.

Hopefully his response is a knee jerk reaction (maybe embarrassed as he thought it was ll 100% original) and his stance may change, otherwise it will be tough to resolve amicably.

Good luck mate, I think you might need it.

Real sorry for you Iain that you've been burdened with repro junk. You would think that the seller would know what he is offering and it seems to me like trying to palm off nasties as the real deal.
Just wish you all the best with getting it sorted mate.

Hey Iain, a few questions...
How did you pay? paypal gift?
Were there pictures of the lot you bought? Is there any way from the pictures that a repro might be able to be picked out?
Also, does he have an ebay account?

Also, i tend to agree with Todd, that passive aggressive stance right from the off (given the fact that we know he's either accidentally wrong or lying) seems off to me. Most decent people would at least approach it with a little tact and with some manners even if they thought the guy was trying to pull a fast one.

Paid via personal cheque - so no comeback at all
Pictures were up of the Last 17 but hard to tell with the weapons. I'll be honest, I didn;t ask for many pictures because I trust people on the boards - especially those who have been around for a while to be telling the truth. Most of the bext figures I ahve ever purchased have been collections from here and RS
Don't know about the Ebay account

He has been adament from the off that the weapons aren't repro - he did send some extra figures to cover the missing Luke Poncho weapon (although this was never discussed) - he has also offered to replace the blue weapons (Han Trench, Luke Stormie and some of the blue stormtrooper and smugglers blasters)

I am tempted to do a watch out thread on RS mainly because I am annoyed at the accusation that I switched them. All the guys that have ever bought from me or sold to me know that I have always been honest and for someone to call that into question pisses me off more than the fact that they sent me repro weapons

I'm not sure about the personally cheque thing and to what level you could be protected there.
I think the best thing to do is explain to the guy first off that you are not lying, why you are not lying and that a forum of at least 20-30 people could back you up as an honest and trusted seller and an ebay account that speaks for itself. In the light of all this information any reasonable person would then accept that you are not lying. I would also suggest that if he's not willing to take your word then you can photograph the repro weapons and post them here and on RS for "expert" opinions.
Then state what you would like as compensation. Replacements, some money back whatever. In my opinion, if you word all this in a concise and passive manor stating the facts as you see them, don't even get involved in the "accusation" side that he was quick to jump to, if he then still maintains that you are a liar and are trying to scam him (firstly we will then know what kind of person he is) the begin the flame to end all flames. Watch out threads containing his forum name his real name, his ebay name if you have it. Add him to the scammers thread the block list... basically fold it sideways and shove it up his arse is what i'm saying.

Cheers Pete

Pretty much my plan to be honest. I have had two or three email conversations with him since they have arrived and tried to persuade him that they are repros with little success (hence his last reply). I have emailed him back and told him that I will be putting a thread on here and RS tomorrow with pictures of the weapons and naming him. I haven't had a reply back yet - although he has told me that his wife has just come put of hospital.

It is sad that it has come down to this - no-one likes to be told that they have sold repro items - especially if thse things have sat on the shelves for the past 10 years.

It's amazing how quickly hospitals and illnesses come into the story when someone's trying to BS their way out of a situation.

You might be right, but again I alway want to give people the benefit of the doubt - time will tell

What hospitals, illness, family etc got to do with selling items whether it be Star Wars stuff or any other things for that matter. I don't understand why sellers say this unless they are trying to get out of a sticky situation, either way it has NO INFLUENCE on the deal.

There is no excuse for the repro's, but sometimes especially with the last 17 being on trilogo's they sometimes were originally packaged with the wrong colour weapon (ie blue/black instead of light blue or black blasters)

If anyone has any thoughts on these weapons, please feel free to add to the threads :D

Man Iain, Sorry to hear this hassle. :x What a load of rubbish, Hopefully it will get sorted, but by the sellers initial reaction I doubt it will go smoothly..........As Pete says you have the backing of 30+ Forum members who know just how trustworthy, honest and fair you are with every collector you deal with, be it a new member like myself or long term forum members....
