What happened to your childhood collection?

I still have my full set of figures with their original weapons... well.. I have upgraded a few of them over the years.. namely FB Luke, Vader & Ben as I removed the thin bit on the sabers.

All my vehicles.. well what few I had of them I sold off in 2003/4 when I moved onto the costuming side of things. Just couldn't put myself through letting the figures go.

I sold of the remainder of my childhood collection around this time last year (lots of loose figures with weapons and boxed mini rigs) all the big boxed vehicles have slowly over the last ten years.

I know some of you will be thinking how mad I am but I needed the money last year for my two daughters Christmas presents and I think it would have been pretty selfish to keep them.

How do I feel about it? Do I have regrets?
Of course it would be nice to still have them but I'm a grown man and they are toys :D
I still keep a small collection of bits and pieces and that's good enough for me

In 2001 when I started to collect. Then I replaced most of my childhood collection with better figures and sold most them I wish I had never done that :( But I still have a few figures and a vehicle from my childhood :D

I still have all my childhood weapons but 95% of them is mixed with weapons that I have bought after 2001 so again I do not know which weapons are from my childhood or most of them :(

Today I always put a note under the stand with a figure or in a box where I write who I have the figure, weapon, cloth or vehicle from.

Great thread.
Destroyed in play and/or handed down to the kid brother. probably ended up in the bin. I destroyed my millennium falcon. the absence of the corridor to the cockpit meant that I cut into the cardboard inner to make one. played with it till was in bits. the troop transport was split to make two boats. Should have went for a job as a durability tester for kenner/palitoy. My older brother had an x wing. probably a battle damaged one if I remember correctly. Which managed to survive in some form. a lone x wing cannon is all that's left. How that managed to survive I will never know. along with 25 figures. a jabba. a mtv with a chewed canon and two back parts for speederbikes. the 25 figures formed the start of my figure run. which is only a couple away from completion. And have the missing parts for the speederbikes now.
On another note. a couples of years back I was at one of older brothers friends house. And he had kept all of his collection Had it all out on display from storage for a week or two. wasn't a clued in then as I am now' he had all the main vehicles and lots of figures. looked great.
Probably seeing them displayed and still having those figures were probably the reason for starting to collect.
Think of all those collections that are still in attics that belong to people who don't collect nowadays but the toys still mean that much to them that they keep them safely tucked away in storage.
Must start a x wing restoration thread with just a picture of the one remaining canon.

I don't think it counts as a restoration if you only start with one canon :)

I'm the typical guy who sold everything to get some money for car speakers etc for the Chick Magnet in 1993, or so i thought....

I deeply regretted selling my stuff (everything for £20, although we never had much money so all i had was a Rebel Transport full of figures and an AT ST). I can picture the scene, i had everything laid out on my parents dining room table and the son of one of my mums friend bought it all. She is still in contact with him so i am hoping that one day i might get them back.

Some of you will know my unbelievable day when i discovered, well, it's all here in this thread: http://www.starwarsforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=19975&hilit=the+best+day

 That would be like restoring a car starting with one wheel

Sold on all my vehicles to help fund a ZX Spectrum +2.... Thankfully kept all my figures albeit most are missing weapons etc. Even have a Yak which is probably the one figure in really minty condition as I think I got him close to the end of toy playing days (he's actually off for grading at the mo)

Could never sell them .....

My vintage figures were my pride and joy. As I became an adult they went into a bag and into store and were checked from time to time. I reached 32 and we had our first daughter. My wife and I decided that she should have at least a year off with the baby. Financially it was really tight. We had the credit crunch in 2008 quite bad lol

For years my Dad used to say I should sell my figures "make a few quid" well in order to pay the bills I finally gave in. To Evil Bay they went I could have cried. 32 years old and getting emotional about plastic !

They sold for a lot less than I thought. Things like Luke Stormtrooper and Pop up Artoo included in the sale. All mint. They sold to someone in Spain !

I spent years regretting selling my figures. In the end the money I got for them made only a small difference, but needs must and the little lady had to be looked after

Then by chance in December 2013 I was chatting to my cousin and he got me interested again in starting a new collection. I spent almost 20 months collecting loose figures again and now only have Yak Face to get It's been a great pleasure to collect them again and it means more because I had to sacrifice the old toys I loved. Along the way I found an old Zukass that was mine as a kid and a Ben Kenobi & a beaten down Rebel Commander. Amazing they were in boxes at my parents with other toys.

But more incredible. In the loft last week my old fella found a Slave 1, An AT AT and an White Tie Fighter. All complete and all in need of some TLC. So all was not lost after all.

I gave all my Star Wars figures and ships to my younger cousins in the early nineties. Even went round a few times and played with them in there garden.

Towards the end of the nineties they were growing up and asked if I wanted them back which luckily I said yes please. They all lived in a box for a couple of years when I decided to sell the ships. An AT-AT, falcon, 4 scout walkers, rebel transporter and jabbas playset. :(

I did keep all the figures though so that was lucky. :)

Mine were all in my mum's loft until she moved house earlier this year. I got them down with the intention of giving them to my little boy - that lasted about an hour until I took them back away from him and decided to complete. Very lucky in the fact that still had ~70%, all complete and mostly minty - wouldn't like to be starting from scratch again today! It has however awoken an addiction that I thought I had kicked 30 or so years ago!

Mostly given away by the step mother :x they were left in the garage unsupervised and one day we (myself and Junior Chubb) found out that she had given them to a nursery  step mother became the evil step mother just like in the movies.

Not all the figures were given away, some had a much better story to tell as they were strapped to fireworks and blasted off up in to space on a mission to find their home planets, the unlucky ones were attached to Roman candles and endured some severe melting injuries  (I recall Klaatu being one of them  )

There were some surviving pieces, still got my x-wing and Rancor which my son now has and Junior has some bits too (his one armed Wally)

Anyone who still has their original toys are very lucky and you should cherish them always, never sell them!!!!!!

I have been very lucky in that I have about 90% of my first figures and ship. What I am missing is my luke farmboy and Han large head.
We moved out of a house over 10years ago and the house is now empty. Somewhere I hope the rest of my figures and weapons are in it. I am now planning to go back and take a good look for them. I also hope to find any other old toys which I had.
These are what I have managed to save.

Given away to a spoilt little bastard

And the most bitterness felt prize goes to...

I kind of remember bringing my Millenium Falcon and some other bits and bobs home from my Dad's and giving it to my brother who displayed it in his room. That was the start of our collection in the late 80's.

For a few years my mum was married to my brother's dad in the early 80's. I lived between parents so had two completely separate toy collections. One night my mum basically took us away from the pub they lived in with just the clothes on our back and never returned. She eventually got some furniture and belongings returned to her but I lost all my toys and clothes! Cousins donated a few bits to me (Christ! i forgot all about that  ). Around 1987 the room I had round my mum's house consisted of furniture that came with the rented house, a Hinari Sunrise TV (donated) and a cassette player. Nothing else.

Meanwhile back at my Dad's hotel in Cheshire I had a room full of cool toys and posters and stuff. Total contrast to my other life. When they moved out in the 90's I hadn't seen them properly for a bit so had no hand in moving or saving the stuff I wanted, so they binned the lot! All my Star Wars and Lego. I had a Lego town set up. Gone! All my MAD comics dating back about 5 years! Gone! NES. Gone! Clothes!!!! Gone!. Childhood teddies (except Scruffy). Gone! All chucked in the ****ing skip! :x I honestly don't know how they didn't just get hold of me and ask if I wanted anything. People man!

All this childhood trauma and amputation of the past has probably influenced my collecting somewhat :?
