Vectis 25-6-2015

Great pics Andy :D

Id tip my hat to the old Palitoy guy, he held on to these even past the PT release and hype :D

The only downside to this is that all those mint pieces will be going for grading at either UKG ir AFA and entombed forever, its bound to happen. Then, they will be sold off for silly money.

One last thing though, and ive said this before-Vectis are the most unprofessional, clatty looking auctioneers i have ever seen. Those figures/items should be cased properly and put behind glass displays. We are talking about thousands of pounds worth, not some batch of lawnmower engines. Giving a figure a yellowed, £1 star case doesnt show how much of a nice piece it is,does it?? And they charge 15% fees??? Absoultely pathetic, and a shame that they are now touted as 'THE' top uk auction house for collectables?? Absolute bollox. They need to sort it out.

In fairness all auction houses struggle to handle top quality goods, Vectis are one of the better ones, I've had terrible experiences with others. I've seen behind the scenes and I personally think it's run as well as possible. Sure it's not perfect but the sheer volume they have to deal with is incredible so the odd problem does occur. They at least do give free star cases now for protection, which I think is a positive step as they never used to use them at all. They also acknowledge their own mistakes and will refund or cancel auctions where necessary.
At the end of the day despite any misgivings we may have if you want to sell your collection now in bulk, Vectis will get you higher prices than any other auction house. I don't think anyone will dispute that.

What was the ESB box in the last photo? A Tie Bomber or some other die-cast?

Not sure. It was part of Mark Jackson's sale. It could have been a Kenner rifle.

What's with the 600/800 bollox on those 12 back Palitoys??

I don't collect MOC and even I know what a garbage.

From experience toy auction estimates tend to be on the low side to draw the bidders in. This is common practice. With the Palitoy and Beech's sales the vendors have left full responsibility with Vectis to sell the items. Effectively there is no reserve and there doesn't need to be with the level of interest.

They are really there to determine the minimum an item will go for (60% of the low end), but in fairness, they should be a realistic indication/range of what the item should expect to fetch.

I don't know why people get so excited about them being out though, most auctions I've seen are the same and it's not just Vectis. At the end of the day, who cares if it's wrong.

Would you go into a property auction and dive straight in on the guide price? Of course not. You'd do your own research.

I agree with this. Some auction houses are still living in the dark ages. They don't accept card payments, they don't offer postage, they won't do condition reports and want you to turn up and do you own, some don't accept internet bidding.

It's probably one of the least developed parts of the business world.

Looks like the figures I saw on display at Sandown. To think there's about £30k worth of toys there

Now that's a cool picture.

Reminds me a bit of the Palitoy Archive at CE! back in 2007 8)

TBh I am now officially bored of Vectis auctions, us mere mortal collectors have sod all hope of snagging a bargain as every Tom Dick & Harry seem to be on to them, I simply can't justify spending the kind of dollar their items are commanding, seems the world & specifically the wealthy have gone SW nutty, not good news for any of us with shallow pockets.

I 100% agree with you Frank. It seems to be all or nothing at the moment. I've had to change my focus collecting to building a nice set of SW annuals because their the only bloody things I can still afford right now! What truly takes the piss for me right now are the dick heads buying already over priced items at Vectis, and then having the cheek to sell them on straight away for double. I have already said previously that I missed out on a MOC snaggletooth by £10 because I work during the day and can't bid live, only to have the guy who won it try flogging it on for double the price on eBay the next week! Dose everyone see us as a giant cash cow?

Thought that as soon as I saw the pic mate :!: Good memories 8)

I remember that too, sadly the pics of it I have are rubbish.

I went to an Action Man meet this weekend and a couple from Vectis were there with stock from the next sale (they know Rich well). Apparently Hollywood studios bought a lot of the previous auction so it's no wonder prices were high.

Bob Brechin Palitoy designer opened a sealed box of AM frogmen whilst we were there - a great moment, and you can see Dave Barnacle in the pic - Palitoy artist and who's son appears on the Death Star box amongst others. His wife was there too, a really nice couple.

Apologies for the non-SW pics but thought they may be of interest

That Bullet Man!

Back in the late 70's my uncle would spoil me rotten and would love to take me to toy shops, on one occasion I was given the choice of either a skateboard or a Bullet Man - and I went with the latter. Many happy hours playing with that figure.

I also remember quite vividly him walking into my nan's living room where I was watching 'Crown Court' and handing me an entire box of Topps gum cards - we sat for ages opening each pack up to find the right cards to make both pictures up on the backs.

I digress, when are we likely to see the item listing for the next auction do you think?

I love the AM oddballs too - Atomic Man was a great Steve Austin rip off

All up for sale at the next auction - and loads of duplicate stuff coming up. Surely prices have to fall?
